Locket Change on PBE: explination

[Active] Active changed from an aoe shield effect to to "After a brief delay, creates a protective field at your location for 8 seconds. Allied champions within the field are dealt 35% less damage (90 second cooldown)."

from what i understood, this is a nerf to adcs and squishy champion in general and a buff to bruisers explination:

right now locket depending on who you build on can give something like up to 1k hp shield 1k bonus shield increases an adc's hp by 50%

with this change however, it's going:

  • to give 35% damage reduction which is already a nerf to squishy champions and a buff to tanky champions -to have a delay so you can't instantly shield someone from an assassin -it's going to be stationary AND around your position

so say you're alistar who wants to engage, and you engage, if you create a locket field at your position and your adc gets dove, if the adc tries to kite he's going to run away from the field while before the shield would just shielded damage anyway

that's the important aspect of this locket change, adcs can't run back into the field if they want to kite bruisers will be able to run into the field and stay into the field to damage tanks while getting a whole 35% damage reduction against marksmen

additionally one last change is true damage will not get shielded anymore and there are more melees with true damage than adcs the only one who can deal a huge amount of true damage is vayne Darius Garen Irelia Camille Fiora Gangplank MasterYi Olaf have true damage for instance and don't forget that the new rune will convert 20% of your damage into true damage!

so... new keystone+new locket in the same patch? that's a very good buff to bruisers

However, characters with ranged damage output can likely back off when the Locket gets used, unlike Melee champions who will be stuck in the fray, even if that equals being stuck in a 35% damage reduction zone.

Oughta look at the whole picture, mate. Am interested to see how it'll play out tho

exactly, it's like windwall

however unlike windwall this thing lasts for 8 seconds so unless it gets nerfed, melees are going to use this greatly

I'm not following your thought process there. Care to explain what makes you say that?

EDIT: Oh you mean buying it on Melee champions? hmmm

did i missunderstand what you meant by "ranged damage output can back off when locket gets used" i thought you meant say an adc sees locket used he will back and wait for locket to end

my reasoning is that imagine you have mordekaiser adc vs a classic adc both in a teamfight Now both team uses locket and teamfights, The team with Mordekaiser is at an advantage because Mordekaiser has more true damage with the new keystone and more HP to make use of %damage reduction

Now if a diver in mordekaiser's team dives the adc, the adc to kite has to get out of the locket field to kite the diver if the diver backs off because he knows he won't catch the adc, he can run back into the locket field and tank more damage

is that wrong?

No you understood that correctly

If a Diver jumps in, and then the opponent uses their locket, that Diver will be stuck in that 35% damage reduction zone. They can't really back off from there and might lack the damage to kill their target, because of the damage reduction, while Ranged champions have the ability to back off from there.

if it's an adc it isn't a problem

35% damage reduction is equal to a ~~600 hp shield on an adc, which is already an important nerf

also has a delay in which a diver can dish out tons of damage (think of hecarim E)
