Full AP Ekko needs to be toned down

HateDaddy··4 votes·1,444 views

I don't think this requires massive overhaul, in fact I'd go as far as saying his damage and stickiness is reasonable. What feels unreasonable is how tanky he is without defensive items between his base stats, shield and ult. I think these are the best areas to start. Ekko blowing up my carry by jumping in without assistance should cost him his life, not just his ults cool down. That wasn't suppose to be his function anyway.

Ekko is an assassin, catching a carry out, exploding them, and making it back out safely is EXACTLY his job.

i main ekko he isnt supposed to explode squishies.

he can catch them out and kill them, but i wouldn't describe what he does as exploding unless he's REAAALLY fed or he lands his ult

with all his strengths, he's more of a skirmisher. he wins through attrition and hit-run tactics, not the usual diving monkey manuevers

Assassins being able to go in and kill their target(s) is fine. The problem is "making it back out safely". They aren't supposed to make it out "safely". If an assassin want to make it out back alive it should be with sweat, blood and gore. "Making it back safely" like with Ekko's ult is why assassins are strong, bordeline overpowered even.

Isn't making it out safely the purpose of Zed's shadows and Leblanc's dash?

Yes they are. Which is why they are so strong. Leblanc lost a bit of her power with her "rework" but. But it didn't fix her issues, issues that most assassins have. All assassins in league(Note: Almost all) follow the same formula. But the formula itself is inherently broken.

I mean, how exactly are you going to counter something that can kill you before you can even react, before your teammates can react only to have said thing that killed you get out way too easily. Zed's W and R are inherently broken because it allows Zed to switch places with them. If he couldn't he would be balanced. But Riot and a large amount of the player base are too ignorant to realize that such abilities are problematic.

Which is unfortunate.

He was originally designed as a drive-by assassin. He goes in, kills what he's suppose to, then gets out.

Which is exactly what the OP described.

made me laugh IRL wp

an assassin that needs 3 sec to get a shield, cannot use ult if cc'ed and has trash base stats is tanky

Sorry I'm late, but I couldn't help it. First of all, no other assassin in the game has a shield, except from Kassadin.

Second, no other character except from alistar and olaf can use any of their abilities while cc'ed.

Third, he has literally the same base stats as Zed up to the first decimal digit. He has higher health, health regen and armor than Fizz, which is the point in which meele assassins should suffer most

At least do a bit of research before posting here...

and? because he is the only assassin that has a shield he has get it removed or be nerfed? congrat son you discovered what is uniqueness, ekko unlike other assassins stay longer in a fight which is why he has a CONDITIONAL shield

you don't get the point, the point is that his ulti will be used when he gets low which means you can fight him and then when he's at 40% hp nearly you CC him and kill him

it doesn't matter what base stats he has, if they are higher than i don't know who, they are still low

if you have problems to kill ekko in 5v5 then it's your fault not the fault of the champ

i hate him, i can murder him pre 6 but the moment he has that ult he can even tower dive you if you are trying to last hit under tower an he lands the stun, very easy to burst you while your stunned an then ult out. shit that can kill you an get away for free is why i hate leblanc zed and ekko and also kha zix.

Man, just as we're done with the Tank Ekko hype, and now we're dealing with this....

EXGardna1 votes

That's not an issue concerning stats of any kind. That is simply a skilled Ekko player blowing up your carry, and/or your carry not getting any peel from anyone else on the team. I say this, because in fact he does not feel tanky at all without defensive items, unless he can successfully pull off his E. As far as his base stats are concerned, they are far more in line with that of the other assassins in the game. As far as his ult is concerned, if the Ekko player in question is skilled enough, he/she will time said ult correctly, thus providing optimal healing based on the damage taken within the last several seconds. All of these things only seem unreasonable to you, because of the fact that full AP Ekko has lower base damage and higher AP ratios, which ultimately make the full tank Ekko build ineffective (nobody wants to see the return of tank Ekko, it is a nightmare to deal with). In short, Ekko blowing up your carry without assistance at only the cost of an ultimate cooldown is his function. He is an assassin, after all.

I think his spells are too flashy. When I play against him, I don't know how to counterplay him because I can't understand what he's doing when he gets all up in our team's faces. They need to give him some visual clarity nerfs.

FioraWillCarry1 votes

I suggest playing 3 games with him. You'd know EXACTLY what he is doing every time after that. I'm never in doubt about what Ekko can do and when.

SanKakU1 votes

I actually bought him and I still don't know what he's doing when he's my opponent.

Spicy Rice1 votes

Then play him more.

The more you understand how to play him, the more you understand how to counterplay him

Ralanr1 votes

It's either that or fight him a lot. But when tank Ekko was your most common top laner, I got to learn a few things.

Namely where his W is going to land. Answer: where it would mess me up the most.

FioraWillCarry1 votes

Well his attack pattern is quite simple. He has to stack his passive on you twice before he can detonate it with a 3rd hit. That's where his damage comes from. Majority of the time, he's gonna want to E onto you first, then Q for his two stacks. Or he can start with Q and if it hits you, he will want to follow up with his E+Auto to burst you. Just keep that in mind when you're laning against him. Back off if he has stacks on you. Stay away from him until they wear off so he cannot detonate them and take half your HP.

Ekko in the hands of the average player is very easy to predict. Also, observing his shadow when his ult is available is a great way to outplay him. I think I've killed Ekko more times by striking where he lands after using his ultimate than any other way.

SanKakU1 votes

It's not laning against him that is difficult, it's dealing with him in team fights that's hard since I can't tell what spells he's casting.

FioraWillCarry1 votes

Well that's easy. In teamfights, he is going to be poking with his Q until he can go in on someone with his W followed up by his E for the stun and shield. If the team converges on him, he will use his ultimate to get out. The only other variation is where he gets out without his ultimate and get you to chase him and when his shadow is close to them, he uses the ultimate and kill them. There's very little deviation from this pattern of play. It's literally all he does.

SanKakU1 votes

Nah, sometimes he uses his ultimate for damage. In fact he does it a lot. Also, his Q does a huge amount of damage and my allies always seem to think it doesn't, as if it was the old Ekko.
