well dorans shield makes her laning the most uninteractive thing in the universe and removes the main form of counter play which is make the bitch go 0/3 before she hits 6

Dio Bento1 votes

main form of counterplay. You mean go afk to become unvoulnarble?

Miror B2 votes

Or just take nasus, who laughs at literally everything she does once he finishes spirit visage and can oftentimes 2-shot her should he get any sort of freedom.

item 1054 passive regen, more regen by taking poke Akali passively heals with auto attacks. Shroud making point and click trading impossible. Has great cs'ing under tower. Gets huge power spike 6-8 minutes into the game. Ability resource cannot be reliably drained due to energy regen.

"lol just poke her out of lane"

HeimerLmao3 votes

End game before her 6! Its's so damn simple!

Daunt2 votes

It's not only the dorans shield though. She has better sustain than most tanks and juggernauts thanks to her passive. Like, if her niche is to be a cancerous point and click burst damage with no real delays why does she have no tradeoffs when it comes to getting poked?

And good luck getting her down to 0/3. If she's versing a melee champion she can just shove the wave into your turret with her e, if she's versing a ranged champion she can safely go to 6 due to her sustain.

A champion who can out trade you with perma sustain, have an effective 8 second invulnerability, and dive you level 6 might be a little too strong.

But hey, akali is weak and needed buffs to her W, right?

DuskDaUmbreon3 votes

...Wat.

Ooookay. One thing at a time, then.

It's not "permasustain" until she's able to blow 3400g, it's a tiny amount of healing once per 8-6 seconds in lane, only on minion hit.

It's nowhere close to invulnerability, it's essentially an AoE Teemo passive for her. She's a sitting duck during it. And you can still blow her up with AoE easily.

And diving at level 6 means pretty much nothing, given that there are champions that can dive you at level three and walk out. Ekko Elise Fizz Katarina Kayn and Talon can all do it easily - and Talon does it regularly.

Daunt3 votes

She has better sustain in lane than most tanks and juggernauts. Her stealth is annoying since you're actually the sitting duck since you can't do anything unless you have really massive aoe which can still miss her since the shroud isn't small. Unlike Akali i can dodge stuff from the champions you mentioned while i keep getting outplayed by her point and click instant burst. And it's not like you need to land any skill shots or hard mechanical skill to be effective.

The only counterplay there is to Akali is waiting to outscale her in fights and praying to god she lets you take any cs. Great champion design btw.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

The counterplay to Akali, like to many other champs, is to counterpick her.'

It's not a funny design at all but many champions have it like that, unless you specifically counter pick them then you will get raped in the end.

Azadethe1 votes

Not really true on the second part.

The bad thing is, Akali usually is picked 4th or 5th, so counterpicking is a joke, and there are actually very few TEAM counterpicks available vs her (Sona can disable her for 2 sec, but shroud gives her time to get it back, Top has very few Akali counters; No ADC really counters Akali, except MAYBE a Varus Cait can't detect while she's in shroud).

There's a few mid counterpicks, but her team play is oppressive.

I used to be able to Nami Bubble an Akali but I can't do it anymore for some reason (perhaps they reduced her R cooldown, or it's the fact the Shroud now gives a small teleport)..... I mean.... you could Nami ult her and bubble simultaneously to prevent her recovery.... Now.... she can actually R in between the Nami wave and bubble, so the Bubble will always miss with its .78 second delay.

What I find wierd is she can actually now erase 1/3 of a TANK's HP in 1 R combo. That means she's probably scaling to the point where her damage overkills someone by a significant amount.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Well she is played top exactly because she is so poor at handling ranged bullies early though, kinda the same deal as Yasuo to some extent but worse.

Twitch, Cait, vayne and Darius all handle Akali quite easily as long as any form of CC hits her.

Mf is also not bad, even really good with CC and peel to keep Akali hiding in her shroud, Ashe is also good as long as someone else has enough damage for a followup.

And she can't erase a 1/3 a tanks health without being hella fed, or if the tank doesn't have any MR.

I´ve been on both ends of that scenario.

Her damage is in fact lower than before her changes while sustain if she procs every single passive of cooldown, slightly higher-

But the big difference is how people play her toplane instead of midlane.

And how unlike tanks and juggernauts who start spiking at 1 item she spikes at 1 component as any assassin.

Have you seen a while back that Korean's played Talon toplane? It was the exact same thing, you´d cheese kill on kill against tanks and juggernauts early while they could not go anywhere near the waves due to having 0 ability to fight you.

It's just the natural difference of having one class that starts spiking at 1,3 k gold and another that spikes at 3 k and then having the two fight, the outcome is crystal clear from early on.

Counterpicks in League don't serve to completely negate your opponents champions. They are implemented as a hard lane matchup for the counterpickeded pick where they can still flourish as every other champion once they hit mid game.

Also i don't think anyone hard counters Akali. If it's a ranged opponent she has too much sustain to actually get poked, if it's melee she can shove waves into their turrets with E.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Except counterpicks do completely ruin your opponent in some cases.

Nasus can absolutely crush some matchups.

As can Darius, FIora, yasuo, Talon, azir,cho,gp,kayle,rengar,kha6,yi, Tryndamere and others.

If you do not pick the right champions against them or have a lacking teamcomp then lane or even the match itself is impossible to win if they play well.

Either you hard counter them or you get bent over and screwed sideways.

That is the definition of a hard counter in league as i have learnt it playing since s3.

Heck lee Sin is actually a hard counter against akali due to revealing invisibility.....as is lulu,¨'''

Daunt2 votes

League doesn't work like that thought, picking a counter for a certain champion doesn't automatically win you the game. But a game that does function like that is Dota2 where the focus is on counter picking and micro play more than anything else. League still heavily focuses on other aspects as well so players are never really screwed during the entire game by the champion the enemy countered them with.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

We could argue this but just in this last worlds played there was a massive focus on team comps, you could basically make 80% accurate guesses on which side was going to win depending on what teamcomp they got through.

And i myself have lost plenty of games just because my teams ended up unable to counter a enemy champ like Nasus, yi or Vayne. No matter how well we played we just lacked the tools to shut them down and thus eventually lost miserably.

Many, many times.

So many that i have long lost count x)

Daunt2 votes

Well the team that drafts better has better chances of winning, yes. That's pretty normal. Also, the Worlds meta was a bit retarded since they had the ardent censer at its peak of power.

You lost those games cause they hit their power spikes while not having the knowledge on how to stop them. This is why champions like Yi work in lower but not in high elo.

This has nothing to do with counterpicking a certain champion though.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

I lost because my teams lacked the crowd control or ability to get past enemy setups.

I have played since S3, i have a pretty good idea when champs powerspike and how to stop them but i generally need something to do it.

Something that i either lacked or the enemy had a way to counter because i didn't have enough of it.

That something is usually either crowd control or burst x)

And Yi does work in higher elo, the same as akali does, when you pick him at the right times.

Akali just has a broader definition of right.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Akali's counterpicks are just champions more broken than her, which really aren't counters.

Thefrostyviking2 votes

LeeSin Syndra Malzahar Azir Mordekaiser Riven Talon Renekton Pantheon Lulu Cassiopeia Annie JarvanIV Chogath Maokai Kayle .

All these champions can really mess with Akali any day of the week when played well^^

Even if they do not lane against her directly they make the game so much harder for her just by existing.

AirKingNeo1 votes

HAVE YOU READ AKALI'S PASSIVE? IT HEALS.

TOP LANERS DON'T HAVE MASSIVE AoE EFFECTS TO HURT AKALI DURING HER W; THEY MOSTLY AUTO ATTACK

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Yes, I have read it. It's one heal every 8-4 seconds, based on level, on autos.

Camille I'm Chogath sorry Darius top DrMundo laners Galio don't Gangplank have Garen AoE Gragas damage Rumble you MonkeyKing say?

Each of these champions can hit her in her W, and can do so easily.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Camile's AoE damage is shit.

Cho'gath is just a broken champion.

Darius is countered.

Mundo is shit. Galio is shit. GP has to set up barrels first, which lets her passive come off cooldown, Garen can be walked away from though, Gragas is shit. Wukong is shit.

Not sure about Rumble.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Camille's AoE damage is fine, and it's enough to prevent Akali from just sitting there, since she'll get worn down easily. Sure, you have to save your ult until after she uses her W, but other than that, you should beat her rather easily.

Cho'gath - broken or not - beats her. Cho'gath doesn't beat her because he's broken, he beats her because his kit invalidates hers.

Galio is shit? What crack are you smoking!? GRAGAS is shit!? He was the most prevalent jungler in Worlds this year! And he's far from uncommon in any tier! Gragas is the absolute opposite of shit!

She can't walk away from Garen, since they have the same MS, I believe, and Garen has his Q to chase her. Not too hard to win as Garen.

Wukong may not be great, but he still should easily crush her. And if you make an assassin useless in early, you've made them useless throughout the entire game. This is true for Akali in particular, since she has no special ability to escape after assassinating a target. She's stuck split-pushing for the entire game - and Wukong should easily be able to blow her up if she tries to splitpush.

Rumble should easily kill her, given that you can bully her easier than a lane with Cait and Brand could, then just blow her face up. You have enough AoE to invalidate her W, you have enough damage to kill her, and you have enough durability to survive her.
