Thank you Riot for buffing Baron

BALDG1VEN BOOMER··131 votes·20,131 views

Out of the eight games I’ve played yesterday only two gsmes ended at twenty minutes and it felt good that the game wasn’t decided by one person dying and rushing baron at twenty.

My average game duration probably peaked around 35 minutes yesterday with two games reaching 40+ and it felt great, I was able to play more calmly without a rushed state of mind.

Thank you for making the biggest game saving change to league in awhile.

i like how we've reached the point where players find it necessary to THANK riot for games that don't end at 20 minutes off of a bullshit unstoppable snowball

BALDG1VEN BOOMER57 votes

Well why not? This is by far the best change they made to the game in awhile and I'd like to thank them for making an effort to reduce snowballing.

Agreed. This is a good opportunity to praise Riot for doing something really right, especially since many Rioters tend to complain about how critical Gameplay tends to be. Credit should go where it is due.

T4underbolt6 votes

Maybe first they shouldn't screw up the game. Someone who fked up so hard as riot did shouldn't be surprised about being harshly criticized

Teridax685 votes

Believe me, I'm on your side on this. Take just a quick look at my post history, and you'll see me lay on thick criticism of Riot for not only their mistakes, but also the intentionality behind said mistakes, which I feel has been largely inconsiderate of the playerbase at large. Riot should not have engineered a situation where Baron was weak, yet tremendously impactful, in the first place, and that in itself is worthy of criticism. However, moving towards a situation where Baron isn't so easy to cheese early is nonetheless a good move. On a larger scale, literally every improvement Riot makes to their own game is simply amending for a previous mistake: technically, we could take all of these improvements for granted, since ultimately it's all about the devs unfucking their own mistakes, but in practice many of these changes are all about the devs, who are human beings, figuring out previous mistakes, as well as opportunities for improvements, and taking action on them. We should absolutely criticize Riot when they fail, and not simply applaud them for doing the bare minimum, but I also do think that still leaves room for congratulating them on good decisions (and they do still make those). Because of this, I do think it is ultimately beneficial to give credit to Riot for rebalancing Baron properly, even if that doesn't excuse their previous mistakes on the objective or the game in general.

T4underbolt3 votes

The thing is. Most of the fks up were intentional. It wasn't "oh who would have known this change will brake the X completely", it was "haha you gave us feedback it's broken but we don't give a sht since it gives casuals freelo so they buy more skins. Not nerfing any time soon". The second one is a good representation of riot's approach to the game. You can even see this in those marksman changes. After doing math it will be a buff to them in numbers and reliability and even stronger builds. On the first glance changes look like nerfs but it's not the case. They intentionally keep the game like this. They won't do sht to actually fix it. At this point it is just trying to fool as many people as possible and convince them the changes are fine and fix the game to make sure they can milk some more money. Before flex queue has been used for screwing around and testing things. Now I see so many people not giving a fk even in solo/duo and so many trolls. When game loses its competitiveness and most people that play ranked games are casuals fking around that's when the game dies because nobody who plays serious will play in this clown fiesta. And that's what this game is heading to very very fast.

sir d wreck3 votes

It might look intentional, but I think it's easy to forget they are trying to balance pro play, solo/duo ranked, flex queue, and normals and technically 3s, and ARAM all in one game. It's probably more difficult than you think, and I'm sure it sometimes makes certain decisions look intentional. But I'm sorry I disagree that you think they are fucking up intentionally. I'm pretty sure their goal is to make league succeed as a whole, not try purposely to ruin something they worked hard for almost 10 years to get to where it is. I'd prefer if they balanced less around pro play too though.

Fondling Gems2 votes

Just gonna add onto this that that anyone who thinks League is an easy game to balance doesn't realize there are 2,012,408,492,812,281,626,228,802,928,076,488,704,000,000 possible game combinations, not including runes/summoner spells, at the end of the pick/ban phase.

We can multiply that number by 1,159,445,329,576,199,417,209,625,244,140,625 if we want to include all the summoner spell choices. There are also 1,004,193,907,488 rune combos per player, or 1,042,739,490,802,398,614,340,746,131,216,780,202,679,820,611,962,299,380,095,830,580,211,315,102,923,681,042,091,580,602,925,833,711,753,882,969,983,862,964,224 total rune combinations between the 10 players.

That means that upon leaving champion select there are 2,433,000,725,920,176,568,221,146,763,729,602,477,429,181,803,293,514,029,006,628,475,533,286,455,477,447,865,797,545,156,453,933,397,799,753,945,674,803,420,154,662,473,541,490,569,770,971,535,712,092,960,724,846,284,216,729,600,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible combinations.

For reference there are only about 1,010,000,000,000,000,000,000,048,720,936,472,216,208,552,800,888,336,856,040,608,360,080,776,408,616,424,328,360,280 atoms within the observable universe.

I agree that Riot fucks up sometimes, but usually when they do things that we don't like they are doing it because we asked for it, or because they genuinely think it will help make the game more fun and interesting.

Edit: And no that does not, and I will not, calculate skin possibilities.

The point is rito shouldnt have fucked their game in the first place to make changes like this necessary

BALDG1VEN BOOMER1 votes

Damage creep isn't something you can band aid over in one patch you realize? This is an alternative solution to it.

JMoriartyDK1 votes

Didn't they recently said that they wanted to make games more quick by taking the delay of minion spawn at the beggining ?

IS1a35739310e64704643991 votes

snowballing is fun. please revert this change and add 50 mov speed to baron buff

SociopathFriend72 votes

I like how the community is toxic enough that they find it necessary to go to positive threads and complain in it.

IS1a35739310e64704643991 votes

is this a positive thread? it praises rito for an huge mistake like buffing baron. it didn't need buffs. he needed nerfs and a 100 bonus ap/ad in the buff. now snowballing and stomping will be harder = game less fun

Daedric Etwahl3 votes

You can't actually be serious. This is probably one of the best changes to the game they've done in a while. Teams can't just sneak Baron as easily and it gives more chances to contest it. It actually feels like something you need to think about because of the spread damage and how long it takes. It's not something you can just look at your team at 20 minutes and say "Well, Baron's up" and just take it like it's nothing.

The snowball in this game was already ridiculous. About damn time Riot took a nice step in addressing it.

Also 100 bonus AD/AP on Baron buff you're out of your gourd.

I like how we have reached the point where people need to bitch about everything. If Riot does something good then actually show that what they did was good. Instead of bitching and complaining about every single little thing

Automated Riven17 votes

Probably not an attempt to stop snowballing. Someone may have realized that Baron dying in 11 seconds at 20 minutes was way to fucking fast.

I am atributing it to the boards.

TS Media10 votes

And it still doesn't stop stomps. It just adds an extra 15 seconds to taking baron.

Automated Riven6 votes

Hey, every little bit counts. At least it a bit more dangerous to take early barons if you aren't super ahead.

Sp33d Zer02 votes

The only cases it died in 11 seconds at 20 minutes was in games where everyone had huge cs numbers coupled with multiple mountain drakes and a single target dps comp.

Aka no actual solo queue games.

Automated Riven3 votes

Not true. That shit happened in my games in -whatever the fuck elo my normal MMR is- Hell Baron died in >20 seconds regularly without even having mountain drakes

Sp33d Zer02 votes

Baron died in 20 seconds =/= dying in 11 seconds.

Considering we aren't on a pro level and their standard 20 min baron rush with no mountains are around 17 seconds with more gold i refuse to believe these claims of 15 second baron rush every game with no proof.

The only times these super fast rushes ever happen is when one team is so far ahead they don't even need baron to end, they just take it for bm

Automated Riven1 votes

Believe what you want. Shrugs I could really care less. I don't save common accourances to prove them to unbelieving people so I don't have any to share.

Sp33d Zer04 votes

Which is fine, but these boards are home to hyperbole where the majority makes broad claims with no way to back them up either mathematically or with video proof.

Automated Riven1 votes

There have been plenty of videos floating around. Your arguing that they only happen in high elo when people die like flies in low elo is kinda silly tbh.

Sp33d Zer04 votes

And of all those videos I have seen it is a case of:

The only times these super fast rushes ever happen is when one team is so far ahead they don't even need baron to end, they just take it for bm

I remember when people complained about matches lasting more than 30 minutes. Now people are happy that games go on for 40.

Man this place has changed.

It's not so much how long the game lasts that bothers us. It's just not a good experience going even with the enemy team throughout the match and then at 20 mins have ONE bad team fight end in defeat. No one likes it when all your efforts become meaningless coz one player got caught out and results in getting baron and an instant tower rush to the Nexus

There was a difference, before games were decided but ended slower.

Metal Janna4 votes

This was a good change, but one that shouldn't have been necessary. Baron wouldn't need buffed if damage hadn't crept up to the highest it's ever been. Give us back the difference between burst mages and sustained damage mages Riot!

Yeah the buff to baron has been really noticeable.

Harut1 votes

I kind of hate the baron changes to be honest. It went from a win condition that was easier to take with a hyper-carry to a win condition that REQUIRES a hyper-carry. A tank and an ADC can still 2-man baron, but it will take a tank, 2 mages and a bruiser 4 minutes to kill baron. The game was already centered around ADC's, this just made it worse.

Not Teraos1 votes

Well now at least baron is some risk involved and you can try to fight against stronger enemy to return to game... so yeah.. it sounds good.

inFamous Zion1 votes

As a Riven player, i like this change. I can still snowball to a win by killing carries and not worry about getting punished if i make a mistake.
