What's really strange to me is why Ahri gets to have a speed boost when she throws out a Q while Cassiopeia only gets hers if she lands one.

The issue with Ahri is that she doesn't really have any weaknesses.

Supreme Senpai695 votes

Whys this downvoted it's completely true. Ahri is one of, if not the most, safe champion in League.

RainXBlade2 votes

That's because Ahri's an all-in-one mage. She has CC, mobility, range and good base damage and scalings. The disadvantage of that is that she can't specialize a specific kind of mage like a lockdown mage (Malzahar), battle mage (Swain and Azir) and/or an artillery mage (Xerath and Lux).

She's safe yes because of her ult and her E. But those are very easy windows to abuse if you play the match up right.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

Easy windows? Her ultimate is on a 110 / 95 / 80 CD, that's short as shit and not even taking into account MAX CDR, which she often reaches. That's also not taking into account the spell lasts for 10 seconds.

The issue with Ahri is that she doesn't have enough obvious weaknesses. Her ultimate is literally a get out of Jail free card.

RainXBlade1 votes

I could be wrong that yes, she's an overtuned mage with a lot of safety features. But then again, a lot of her damage comes from Q and E. Her W doesn't hurt on its own tbh. I dunno, I've never played Ahri despite being a mid lane main. And yes, facing an Ahri is very frustrating, even for mages like Brand and Malz who have a lot of base damage and good scaling.

Darius was nerfed for less and he wasn't even being picked in 5s

Gee, it's like Riot doesn't only nerf and buff champions based on winrate alone... probably because one of the champions you mentioned is more or less a stat-stick and Ahri has a lot more counterplay? In both kit and itemization? Just a hunch.

Zero Skill Tank18 votes

While you are not wrong, it is noteworthy that the biggest problem with Darius at the time was ghost Darius, which combo had winratio of like 56 or 57%. He was most definitely not "nerfed for less", even looking at ratios.

All that beeing said, it is true that Ahri nerfs are WAY overdue. It's mostly because midlane was home for even more problematic champions most of the time, so Ahri went unnoticed.

SociopathFriend4 votes

Mid still has more problematic champions lol. Which truthfully is probably why Ahri gets picked so much. She's a generalist- it makes her a safe pick in almost any comp. She has mobility, CC, a decently ranged poke spell, and even gets some sustain to her.

Generalists are always going to be liked and played more than niche champions- they fit into more comps and can do well in more situations. That doesn't make them unbalanced by itself- it can also mean niche champions are too weak. Considering every time I go mid I swear it's an assassin of some kind I'm facing- I'm fairly sure it's the latter instead of the former.

An early game melee with no gap closer that gets kited easily and not to mention he has his hard matchups Kennen Quinn Jayce Kayle Teemo has less counterplay?

SociopathFriend12 votes

Darius' counterplay is to stay the hell away from him unless you've already made the mistake of being too close to him, in which case your only remaining counterplay is dodge the bladed part of his Q. Beginning and end of Darius' personal counterplay as a champion.

But for your few hard matchups I have to say: Kennen Ranged top laner Quinn Ranged top laner Jayce Ranged top laner Kayle Ranged top laner Teemo Ranged top laner Are you seeing a trend here? Because I see a trend here. Also I'm gonna have to disagree on Teemo being "hard" in the first place on account of having killed my fair share of Teemo's as Darius back in the day. Difficult certainly, but not to the degree everyone else you posted, 3 of which have been regarded as some of the most toxic top-laners for several years now. Kennen people tolerate more for some reason.

General Theritt3 votes

Yorick easily outsustains Darius and is a niche splitpush top. Jax amazing lategame scaling and can nullify darius' abilities thanks to his mobility and dodging Renekton extremely hard kite potential and the ability to tank right through darius and avoid his heal factor.

Yeah, only ranged toplaners. Mhmm. Yeah.

Śovereign3 votes

Yorick Only out sustains Darius if the Darius simply allows him to free farm with his Q, and most Darius players harass their lane opponent for years.

Jax Has a horrendous earlygame that Darius can exploit and even his level 6 power spike isn't that effective since Darius' ultimate true damage bypasses his bonus resistences.

Renekton Only wins in short trades and cannot hope to possibly duel Darius even when he hits 6, his passive bleed is simply to much for a champion that relies heavily on abilities to deal damage. The bonus health he gets gets simply shredded by his bleed and even is Renekton goes a more tankish build (Sunfire) most Darius' rush BC because the bleed synergizes to well with his kit in general (particularly his passive).

What he said is true, the only real counters to Darius are ones that can literally just stay away from him.

Sexualsaurus2 votes

Darius' counterplay is burst in short trades, he excels in prolonged fights so don't allow him to have that and there are many melee champs that can can do this Kled Renekton Pantheon JarvanIV Sure people consider those ranged champs toxic but there are plenty of melee champs that people consider toxic to play against as well e.g CamillePantheon Irelia Renekton Riven Tryndamere Yasuo.

You still haven't explained how does Ahri have more counter play than Darius? Most mages struggle against Ahri just as much as immobile top laners struggle against Darius, she has good sustain against poke champs, true damage which makes it difficult to build defensively against, movement speed buff to give better kiting and multiple dashes which allow her to easily escape unfavourable situations or chase most mages down easily. In late game i've seen ahri players blow up squishes without landing a single skill shot.

What i don't get is how people are trying to say that ahri isn't antifun to play against, a lot of the time she can give high reward without much risk.

GULAG 4 U2 votes

Most of ahri's damage is skillshots, while darius on the other hand, unless you are someone who can very easily disengage against him, there isn't too much you can do against him other than 'dodge Q'

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

I can literally kill squishies with RWRAAR + TLD as Ahri. You literally do not have to hit Skillshots as Ahri to blow up squishies.

Throw Luden's Echo and an Abyssal into that shit and it's like walking into a bakery.

NineTailedMystic2 votes

You need at minimum a Q to 100-0 a squishy somewhere in a combo. When I'm ahead, sometimes I don't need to hit E. But I'm also ahead. When I'm not, I need to hit E and Q. This myth of 100-0ing squishies with just RW needs to stop.

Most of the Riven and Fiora mains agree that Kennen is bullshit.

Plat+ Ahri has almost no counterplay due to her mobility, true damage and safety even pre-6.

Gold- Ahri has alot of counterplay because they throw their skills backwards and flash ult 1v5.

2Charmnot2Charm3 votes

true damage is barely even 1/3 of her damage in the post game stats.

Seriously the only true damage she has is coming from her q return or red buff why is this always something everyone bitch about.

You realize if her return was magic damage it would get buffed by masteries while still doing near true damage anyways on squishy targets that didn't get mr from anything besides runes?

Chaos Milk Tea15 votes

An assassin with sustain and wave clear? Nah, nothing wrong here.

SociopathFriend8 votes

Wellll she's not an assassin, she's a mage. So no, nothing wrong there really.

She certainly acts like one with her 100-0 combo and insane mobility.

Ahri

Primary: Mage Secondary: Assassin

Since 5.2 she's been balanced as a Mage. Primary takes priority over Secondary.

Yeah I've been a part of the 2-3 big posts trying to get him off the boards, so much ignorance in a rioter is just bad to have showing in public.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

Fair enough. I don't dislike him enough to try and get him off the boards or whatever. I just believe he needs to think a lot more before mindlessly commenting on the boards.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Good thing Ahri hasn't been an Assassin since 5.2.

I still can't believe we will finally see some Ahri nerfs, thanks competive play, you did not disappoint me this time.

PiVoRx1 votes

you have any proof of it? as i remember, last time ahri was top tier pick, she didnt get any nerf at all

Jeanne fan club7 votes

she has the most mains out of any champion in the game

she has one of the lowest skill floors and highest skill caps

her kit rewards an aggressive playstyle in lane while being safe.

The very nature of her kit gives a lot of options for playstyle considering all the skillshots and mobility - which intensifies her winrate considering she has the most mains out of any champ in the game.

I spent 3 hours making a post about all the reasons she has a high winrate that you could read. I go into much more depth with each point. For some reason I haven't had a thread get a single up vote or comment since last year ( so about 7 posts ) so I can't even share my full perspectives properly on this platform without making a shit-ton of comments instead.

I stand corrected, as I was getting the link to the post someone commented on it.

Just going to point something pretty irrelevant out, ahri's averge game per player is actually 196 which is below yasuo's 203 and master Yi's 208. The % of ahri players with 200+ games is 41% vs Yasuo's 45%. and Master Yi's 46%. So ahri doesn't have the most main technically, but in the end it's still very fucking high, thus these little 1-2% differences are irrelevant anyways.

Jeanne fan club1 votes

Yeah, I'm just going off of the stats before the champion.gg change. I really don't understand what the new site is trying to say with the new avg playerbase avg. On the old site it said that she had an avg games played of about 90. which If i remember correctly was the 14th most for midlane. Also the pie chart showed a solid 65-70% for people with more than 15 games, so just going off of the playerbase average, her play rate, and the pie chart, it was significantly higher than a lot of other champions.

This might have changed since they updated the site, so I may be completely wrong here, but what I said was correct before they changed the site.

FortisDominus5 votes

I never understood the circle jerk for champion nerfs unless the champion is just too insane like Camille on release

I would not fit ahri into this catagory

At least just lower her damage, she's so mobile but still does damage. It's like old Leblanc all over again but AOE.

Her AP scalings are already low though, the only ones she kills reliably are those who are very squishy.

The two points that stand out in her kit are Q movespeed and the short CD ulti has with only a bit of CDR. She essentially uses it like a free jailbreak card combined with a 4 outa 5 times jackpot generator whenever it's up.

Ulti could afford a bit longer CD and Q could have the movespeed changed and she´d be fine.

GoodJobMan4 votes

are you guys really complaining about a champ with a ton of mobility that one shots you? especially when her main damage and cc are both skillshots. Every mage 100-0 someone, its not hard. Doesnt mean they all need nerfs.

Unironic SJW8 votes

Didn't you know that mages can be overtuned all they want with bonkers win%/play% but let an ADC, assassin or fighter get out of line...

WinTheWarOnPants4 votes

i noticed she has a next to non-existent ban rate as well.... funny how shes "so OP" and yet no one bans her.... darius is aids. At least if ahri gives you aids you had fun.

Slave Knight3 votes

Maybe it's just a random trend or meta shift that is preferable for Ahri to thrive? I don't think we should jump on the nerf gun the moment we see someone doing good out of the blue. This may be the one of rare occasions where I like the Riot approach of sitting back and gathering data to identify what's actually going on with her. We just need to keep an eye out if there's something being abused or exploited that's bringing her back into the spotlight. If there's nothing, I don't see a problem if a fair* skill based champion maintains a winrate above 52%.

I won't say any about Ahri... But Darius nerf was totally legit, if u don't take the blade of Q they was no f*cking reason to take so much damage...

She got gutted with the removal of dfg and charm amplify dmg,,,how about u practice dodgin those charms and geting free Qs and thunderlord procs ?

Seenan2 votes

Been saying this since they changed her Q to give speed. Why? She's already pretty damn mobile/safe and can 100-0 pretty much anyone that isn't a tank or bruiser (and usually damage somewhat hard, a bruiser)

I've been playing this game for years and Ahri has always been one of the best pick for mid, so what up?
