I feel like there is no point of interacting with Yasuo in lane...

xxxMadLionxxx··31 votes·2,775 views

Don't get me wrong, Yasuo can be beat in lane. its just for a lot of mages, interacting with Yasuo in lane usually means wasting mana. Simply because there are 3 levels of defense you have to bypass to poke him.

First his shield, then his windwall, then finally his infinite dash which can be used to dodge skillshots. By the time you get to do actual damage, you've wasted a lot of mana, or you take damage from getting to close to him while trying to attack his shield.

The best thing to do while laning against Yasuo is sit under your tower, and wait for the laning phase to be over. I've learned this the hard way. I don't mind waiting, its just Yasuo seems to bepicked almost every other blind game I play.

Hence, I'm really not enjoying most of my games now. Because Yasuo is always mid and I really don't feel like even trying to lane against him.

And then in came the pile of people posting "OMG, Yas is so easy to beat!" or "Just pick *insert hard counter here".

I'm with you OP. I don't think Yas is broken... just that he's got a really poorly designed and overloaded kit... and that he's really, REALLY obnoxious. Literally... dude sucks the fun out of games for me no matter what team he's on.

Unfortunately all you're gonna get is Yas players defending their weeb senpai and maybe a handful of smug people who will brag about how they "totally kill every yasuo they fight EVAR!".

Drakavoid3 votes

OP was talking about lane wise. Yasuo's true annoyingness shows earlymid game. I don't think his kit is the issue, it's mainly his dmg is so strong that sustain itemizations can really make him busted

The Whamboozler5 votes

His problem is his everything. His kit makes him obnoxious and annoying to deal with at every stage of the game. If you don't intentionally counterpick him in lane he'll be a huge pain in the ass. His doubled crit passive means his mid-game powerspike off his first two items is absurd and he will shitwreck your face if he's ahead. If he's not, the spike might still put him back on the level of being able to fight you, even if you crushed him in lane or something. And his scaling is so strong that his late game is strong too. If he can't afford to be aggressive he can hang back being annoying with windwall to thwart poke while he waits for his team to land a solid displacement for him to press R onto. No risk to him at all. If he's ahead he's even worse, as he'll fearlessly charge into two or three people and rip them all apart with huge crits while also staying pretty tanky.

There isn't a single point in the game where Yasuo is anything other than a huge pain in the ass to deal with and his kit lets him handle nearly any situation that could come up for him. He can teamfight. He can assassinate isolated targets. He can splitpush. He can zone you. He can defend his back line and cockblock your poke/picks. His only limiting factor is that it's hard to play him to this level because being able to do nearly EVERYTHING is hard to handle. If you go in when you'd be better zoning the backline off of the fight, you messed up. If you waste windwall on poke and don't have it to prevent a pick (blitz hook for instance) you messed up. You get the idea.

The short version of all this is that Yasuo's annoyingless doesn't show up at a certain point. Yasuo is ALWAYS annoying. He forces you to worry about him the entire game. No matter if you've stomped him. No matter if he's picked into a poor fight for him. No matter where he is on the map. He's always annoying and always able to ruin your day. All the hate he gets isn't over one thing... it's because there is not a single point in the game where he can be forgotten about... and there is not a single point in the game where he will be unable to make you hate him and his obnoxious, overloaded kit and scaling.

As a mage main I disagree, yasuo can be easy to handle. Of course, always aa his shield rather than using an ability, his wall has a long cd, so only engage when he's out of it, finally mages always have some sort of cc, use it to control the fight a bit more.

I'll make a list of great mages Yas counters: Vladimir- that W will save you from his ult and Q can surpass his wall Malzhar- all his abilites arent projectile Syndra- her E can push him away when dashing to you and Q is great Karthus- again, no projectile and Q harass Xerath- the dude can't reach you Swain- very powerful against yas with all the cc and debuff Viktor- this is more of a skill match up but vik is meta rn so Veigar- his E is great locking, and lots of numes Cass- do I need to say anything?

We are talking about counters here.

We don't want the Yasuo player to throw their PC out of a window and then jump after it.

I play Yasuo sometimes. I have no intention of throwing my PC out of a window, ya know.

Even velkoz can do great against him.

Just a for waveclear, q to poke him, and pre-emtively e to prevent him from engaging on you

Yasuo wins half those matchups by a land slide.

Sraeg20133 votes

The only matchup from that list I'd question is Vladimir (due to my experience with this matchup as Yasuo), the rest of them shits on Yasuo either hard or very hard.

Vlad is actually a very great counter, his Q can surpass his wall, he got lots of sustain, W can save from yas ult and vlad overall is very strong in melees situations

Sraeg20132 votes

Vlad's E is useless and Q has enough counterplay to not be that much of an issue.

Non-empowered Qs ain't doing shit, while the empowered one has a very short window.

Dunno, maybe it's just me.

Yasuo isn't a natural win, we all should know by now how to counter him in a lane, stay away from minions when he's dashing to you, keep focus on when he has Q charged, and play passively, don't try to boldly 1v1, wait for jungler if you think you can't beat him. Yasuos true power is in mid game after laning phase.

coreychichi2 votes

Seriously am I supposed to stand in the fucking river and not cs? I don't understand this. Am I not allowed to cs with autos? Autos put me near minions, which puts me near yas, I don't see how this advice is possible to follow.

Spicy Rice1 votes

It means walk up for autos and walk away. Don't be a dumbass and just sit in the minion wave

Targon1 votes

In my opinion, Xerath is a weak pick against Yasuo. While Xerath's Q, W, and R aren't affected by Windwall - a half decent Yasuo can avoid all of Xerath's skill shots with his dash. If you get too close to the minion wave or Yasuo to proc Xerath's mana passive, you'll likely get dashed onto and have Yasuo windwall Xerath's E stun. If you manage to actually hit Yasuo post level 3, his passive shield will probably make him take next to no damage, and he'll probably sustain the damage he does take from Warlord's Bloodlust.

The best counter picks to Yasuo midlane seem to be the champions that don't give Yasuo kills too easily and can punish him through his shield, wind wall, and mobility, such as Vladimir Swain Diana and maybe Akali (I think she used to be a pretty strong counter to Yasuo before her rework. Not sure if this is the case anymore since she feels a lot weaker now)

coreychichi1 votes

And how are you getting out of aa range after that pop without him aggressing on you and chunking most of your health? I'm talking early laning phase here. You would have to be standing halfway out of the lane.

I'm sorry "just pop his shield with your aa" has to be the worst common advice about dealing with him.

Spicy Rice1 votes

Why are you trying to pop his shield when he is basically under turret? It's advice, not a panacea. You need to use some common sense.

Lol if you go into range to auto him hell just dash to you, hit you with a bunch of shit, dash away and windwall. Or windwall while shitting on you

dont forget lifesteal. nobody lifesteals as much as yasuo in lane because he can shove and spam Q. its ridiculous how much hp he gets with just a dorans shield and that mastery.

And this is where your opinion becomes garbage.

Olaf Warwick Aatrox Etc

50000000000000001 votes

Olaf can lifesteal in lane? With what?

Spicy Rice3 votes

I'm not sure if you are trolling me or not...

His w, when activated, gives an immense amount of lifesteal. The mana costs is also very minimal, so you can generally spam it

50000000000000001 votes

His W has a long CD to spam it in lane. He should only be using it to fight, as it is also an AS steroid. He can't just use it on minions to sustain (or shouldn't, at least).

Maximum Morde3 votes

Until they nerf warlords, sort of true.

Existential Bard2 votes

In my opinion malzahar is the best counter to yasuo. Try him. Max W, E, Q.

Passive- you get a shield that helps prevent him from using his ult. If he cyclones you while shield is up, you won't get knocked up, and hence can't be ulted by him.

Voidlings ignore yasuo windwall

Voidlings pop yasuos psssive shield and continue to shred him

Once rylais is built those infinite dashes won't save yasuo when your E is on him since it's a DOT it continually slows him and your voidlings continue to melt him.

Your ult is great for locking yasuo down.

Lissandra

As a Liss player myself, this is false. He's essentially the midlane version of a Nasus match up. His sustain exceeds your damage output by a huge margin so you're never going to have pressure on the lane. He's just going to free farm and leave you no choice than get your jungler to gank or roam.

I will say, it wasn't always like that, the introduction of Wardlord's is what changed everything.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

in my experience ... it was top lane... i did ok ... as liss

i dont play mid much...

so i only face him top

last time i faced him was a game or two a go and i was maokai. i won game i went 5-4-8 and it got where he wouldnt even try to really fight me. he picked on others on my team. he ended up 7-6-4

i have also done ok as Malphite

Catastrop1 votes

Oh that's a different ball game entirely, top lane match ups against Yasuo are actually much easier to lane against him. Shitty toplane vision syndrome generally keeps them in check so they can't go crazy with dashes as often. E is pretty much a get out of jail free card at toplane unlike mid where there are multiple paths the jungler can take to box you in, so you pretty much can go ham whenever you want.

CppL2 votes

Except you cant sit under turet and let him free farm.Cause after lvl 6 hes gonna start towerdiving you...

Sraeg20132 votes

Playing defensively against Yasuo is like playing defensively against Nasus.

It's stupidity.

Yasuo's power level goes to shit, if you force any kind of pressure on him.

coreychichi2 votes

And how the fuck are you supposed to do that as any kind of mage outside the obvious hard counters that are mentioned ad nauseam.

Seriously I want to know, your lux I'm yas how are you going to aggress on me? You will have to waste two skills to even start thinking about damaging me. While those skills are on cd I force you off wave or you die to 3 q and auto.

If you dare take the incredibly stupid advice i see mentioned often and get in auto range to pop my shield you die, I agrees forward while windwalling 3 q auto youre dead.

I would very much like to hear this supposed proper strategy of aggressing onto someone you will lose trades horribly with.

Sraeg20131 votes

AA when he comes to CS and no, I'm not going to die unless you have at least 2, optimally 3 items and by then I have enough items myself to not care that I have to use a spell or two before the actual fight.

E right in front of him, so not only he wastes Windwall, but also still get hit by the spell.

Q when he tries to go ham on you, because he can't use Windwall while dashing.

From what I've noticed all you really need to do is completely ignore him and kill waves then wait for him to do something stupid, going after him is just asking for trouble since he has to much crap loaded into his abilities.

The biggest problem in lane is that his "HASAKIII!" poke does not draw Minion aggro if it hits you through a Minion first - allowing him free poke that you can't retaliate against because then you draw Minion aggro and lose the trade by default.

Yeah, as we know mages with their long ranged abilities have to deeply worry about minion aggro.

If you're getting poked through the minion wave by a yasou q, you don't have much range to work with.

If they hit you point blank in the face within a Minion wave, yes. Yes they do.

Not if they also use an ability.

And their auto attacks are almost without exception longer-ranged than Yasuo's first and second Q, and as all the hate for ranged champions top lane should tell you, ranged champions only barely have to care about minion aggro. Being inside of an enemy minion wave is something that should almost never happen with a ranged mage.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Yasou counters mages more than marksmen simply because mages rely on mana significantly more.
