Everyone's complaining about Riot buffing Teemo

OperationDEEZ1··25 votes·2,044 views

And they never stopped to consider that Teemo is pretty bad right now. Stop and think... When's the last time you've seen a Teemo in a match? For me, that's well over a month ago. Maybe there's a reason I never see anyone playing Teemo? The buffs will be a massive improvement to Teemo's Teamfighting, because now he can do something other than right-click.

His buffs aren't even that crazy. You have to wait till 16 for the shroom throwing to be actually strong, and even then they upped the time it takes for them to go stealth so it's not like it's a ziggs q. His stealth might be a little interesting but it just encourages pink ward purchasing/trinkets. I'd rather deal with teemo than someone like riven or nasus anyway. I'm glad there's still some people on the forums that use their brain. Upvoted.

Half duration of shrooms is a massive nerf too. You won't have random shrooms across the entire map, these net so many kills and assists cause no one bothers to sweep somewhere I was briefly nine minutes ago.

I love playing teemo but I wouldn't take him into promo matches or anything. Riot is right to try and shift some power around and make him less annoying. Another thing I'm going to point out is that even though shrooms have more range and can bounce, they're going only arm after they land and they take longer to arm. That's plenty of time to take a sip of your favorite beverage and then react

I realize teemo is an emotional trigger but we REALLY need to wait and see with these changes.

MohawkBird1 votes

Yeah I guess they want Teemo to go more of a seiger type role with his shroom throwing than the guy who sits and waits for an ambush at the enemy buff.

People are mostly complaining for fun cause everyone hates teemo, not becaue anyone is seriously worried.

Mathbalnase1 votes

And people complain about Teemo being toxic...

AtheosisX2 votes

People are complaining because they are massively buffing him in all the areas that are already incredibly annoying. And rightfully so. These changes are insane.

Yeah, Ive played it. You would have to be stupid to be hit by him chucking a mushroom at you. It has a 1.5 second delay AFTER it lands. How can you not dodge that? Its a worse delay than Veigar W and can be blocked by projectile blocking moves or flat out destroyed with basic attacks eventually.

Perhaps people are complaining because they're happier when Teemo is out of the game, and there are champions with worse pick/winrates that could use some love instead.

You say this like buffing one champion delays buffs to others.

Who said anything about getting hit by his mushrooms? The issue is that he will be able to use his stealth even more and will be able to place his shrooms with even less risk. It's not even that it's overpowered. I don't know if it is. The issue is that he is literally being buffed in his annoying factor. Which is just a wtf moment...

Mathbalnase1 votes

Shorter Shroom duration = fewer shrooms Decaying slow = weaker slow Ward style Shroom HP = shrooms easier to destroy (read: farm) early Longer Shroom arm time = safer all-ins against the little bastard

These are all nerfs and they all affect his 'annoying factor'.

John JJ Schmidt1 votes

Yeah, nobody else has even mentioned the new shroom HP. Two melee or three ranged hits to destroy them.

Teemo needs a full rework for his gameplay. He's way too toxic and It's pretty outdated. It has absolutely no resemblance of a scout aside from maybe his passive, but I think a scout should be more than just AFK'ing in a brush until some idiot forgot to buy a sweeping lens, and then just spamming auto attacks on them until they die.

The thing is that Teemo has such a huge fan base that Riot probably couldn't touch him like Lee Sin. Despite Lee Sin being overpowered by all means, and I'll willingly spend hours discussing it with someone, Riot can't really nerf or rework Lee Sin without his enormous fan base going insane. This includes other broken, gimped, outdated or just outright toxic champions who have a gigantic fan base. I believe Stonewall mentioned some others being Irelia and Shaco but I know for a fact he brought up Teemo needing a rework, but simply due to his fan base he won't ever be reworked.

I agree that there are other champions that need some love, rather than Teemo, I'd prefer him to stay in his more-so underpowered state rather than an overpowered state which would be an absolute nightmare. I think the champion overall is underrated and he can actually do more than just sit there and do damage, but people in higher elo will just abuse him as free kills whenever possible since after early game, most champions outscale him and he also can be really reliant on his mushrooms which can be totally avoided, It's annoying and tedious but it can happen.

Probably because he is a toxic top laner. Pun intended.

Where did you read that they are buffing Teemo? Can you link me please?

Teemo is receiving changes on the PBE. Some portions of the changes are buffs, other changes (like halving the duration of his shrooms, halving the average strength of their slow, increasing their arming time by half, and several others) are most certainly nerfs. It's far too early to say whether the net combination of the changes will be a buff or a nerf.

Lugg1 votes

THEY NERFED THE AMOUNT OF SHROOMS HE WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE OUT!

How are people not seeing this. His buff to his passive is not major at all. He will only be able to have a max of 17 shrooms out at once, and that's under perfect circumstances. People should be cheering if they hate Teemo.

Mathbalnase3 votes

Not actually 'perfect circumstances' as having max shrooms on the map means that no one's stepped on one for 17 minutes.

Lugg1 votes

They only last 5 minutes with the proposed changes. That means he can't have shroom fields in areas far from him and that takes away the intimidation he has always had.

Mathbalnase1 votes

I'm well aware of this. However, preparing 'shroom fields' of sizes anywhere approaching maximum hypothetical numbers is and always has been incredibly inoptimal for precisely the reason I described:

Establishing exceptional control over a portion of the map that your enemies have not traversed for half of the game is not worthy of your efforts.

Lugg1 votes

That is why Teemo should be played mid. 90% of the action takes place near the mid lane. This GREATLY increases the chance that someone will step on a mushroom. He can also be quite effective as a support since he can quickly roam and trap objectives and jungle entrances. Plus his blind really shuts down AA reliant ADCs.

Mathbalnase1 votes

Unfortunately, Teemo lacks the range and burst to trade against common opponents Mid, and lacks the utility and CC to match common Supports in Bot (and lacks the defenses/sustain/CC to regularly succeed as a jungler).

He usually goes Top not because he's good there, but because all the things he's bad at tend to matter less, there.

Lugg1 votes

You hit it right on the head. Teemo doesn't fit good in ANY role right now and these changes don't address ANY of his problems.

Full Teemo Rework 2015

Mathbalnase1 votes

Don't forget the MASSIVE NERFS that accompany these 'buffs'.

Halved shroom duration halved average shroom slow +50% shroom arming delay worse than halved post-stealth AS boost early

Zarxis1 votes

The PBE changes are a net nerf, not a buff. Teemo's mushrooms are the majority of his power budget. Their slow is about to be practically nonexistent after the first half-second of its duration, and the decreased duration means there will potentially be 50% fewer mushrooms on the map at one time. Riot could have at least decreased the cooldown, but they didn't. The stealth changes are nice, but assassination has been a much weaker Teemo strategy ever since DFG was removed and Lich Bane was nerfed.

PiVoRx1 votes

I sometimes wonder if people hate teemo cause hes a LoL pet and hate towards him is in fashion or they are just too bad to play vs him. I never gave a fuck about him, neither people wearing this stupid teemo hat.

Saianna1 votes

Last time teemo recieved buffs to his kit like 2-3 years ago.. And in meantime Riot nerfed him few times.

Imo he deserves this buff!

Mirage Seraph1 votes

I honestly don't even really dislike Teemo. I just find it fun to hate on the little guy. If we didn't have SOMEBODY to take our frustration out on, just imagine what League would be li- Oh..

Zavern1 votes

They are more of a nerf than an actual buff. Why are people freaking out about these changes?

Mathbalnase1 votes

Most of the LoL boards community seems unable to engage rationally when the issue involves Teemo.

Ser Garland1 votes

Ya know, we all joke that Teemo is "Satan" now a days, but back in the day, that wasn't a joke. He actually was satan to lane against. Riot learned that having teemo in a strong position made him toxic to the game, so they nerfed him. RiP when he returns.

Mathbalnase1 votes

The rational response to a champion in that state is a rework, not nerfing him into oblivion and then leaving him there.

Poppy

A Miss Fortune1 votes

Poppy currently is the most broken champion in the game by far and without a doubt.

Try playing Poppy with Devourer. An immortal midget that instakills anything that gets anywhere near her.

Mathbalnase1 votes

Poppy is in line for a major rework.

Currently, Teemo is not.

He'll be able to shroom unexpected places lol. Beside turret, behind turrets. A whole lot more "TEEEEEEEMOOOO!!!" in games :)

But halved duration is pretty brutal.

Turrets have true sight, so shrooming near them isn't going to work out great. I wonder which walls he can shroom over now though...

Oh yeah, duh :)

This is definitely a buff to on-hit teemo and bruiser teemo, which I like. I'm not crazy about the shroom nerfs, but the range buff will actually be really nice for defending siege, clearing waves, and getting good placement without having to face-check dangerous brush. In that respect it's also a buff to vision utility.

As far as the passive is concerned, I think it's a pretty huge buff to support teemo that might be enough to get him out of "troll pick" status.

xl Kirito lx1 votes

The Teemo changes are a net nerf to him lol. Right now his identity is a zone control style mage. You can set up 5+ shrooms in an area quickly, and then force the opponent to deal with the shrooms while contesting an objective. He plays like Ekko, you have to predict where people are going to be, and be ready for that.

Honestly, Teemo has a bad rap since so many people build nashors on him for some reason. Like, the play style can work, but he's not built to be an APC. And that tends to be why people assume he does nothing in a teamfight besides right click. He's going to blind the diver, drop some shrooms to give your adc room to kite, and auto where he can. Just because he doesn't have 4 abilities that he's going to spam cd's on, doesn't mean he's usless. If anything he needs a rework, to the point where his W and his E get more use besides a generic MS buff, and a passive dot.

Manwalrus1 votes

Except people aren't really complaining about the teemo buffs, they're complaining about Fiora's face and character model as well as new HUD.

Sire Hippington1 votes

the main problem is that it get'S him back into the spotlight, and his playrate will increase...i for one enjoy the game far more if teemo isn't in it, wether he's strong or not or on my team or not doesn't matter....same with singed.

Calabok1 votes

Teemo should be forced to dance for 4 seconds when he drops a shroom.

Hiemdol1 votes

The issue that I have with the changes is that what I really do no like about Teemo, his zone control without actually allowing real interaction with an opponent, is not being addressed. These changes will alleviate some of that for players but I feel that this is more of a band-aid for the underlying issues with his kit rather than tackling those issues.

I'll take the changes on the shroom duration but I am worried that this will further push out the chance of more fundamental changes to really tackle what I perceive to be the issues with his kit.
