If auto-range is supposed to be Caitlyn's niche
Why does Jinx have 700 range rockets at Rank 5 Q? Edit, yes I forgot about Trist. Which is just as much of a valid argument as jinx

Because Jinx's niche is being better than everyone else.
auto range isn't Caitlyn's niche, it's her overall safety (ability to escape, traps, and the range on her q and r). I imagine if they could, they would give Cait 700 auto range but realize that would be toxic to lane with so early in the game.
I would be ok with the rockets if they would up the mana cost by a lot
Edit: could be some sort of scaling mana cost the longer she uses them. For example:
Each subsequent Rocket within the next 10 seconds costs 15/25/35/45 additional mana
The rockets are exactly why Jinx is OP. Either the crit needs removed or the range decreased.
Riot mentioned emphasizing caitlin's sniper thematic especially her range and traps when they do the marksman update, I'm hoping that they'll take this chance to do something like giving her much increased auto range when standing in a position( like stand still a few seconds and then gain double auto range until you move, or stand on a trap, or stand in a bush because we already have the headshot passive thing and maybe we could double down on that) or make her ultimate do less damage on a much shorter cooldown or with some cooldown reducing mechanic.
Maybe even chance it so that the ult only does %current hp damage and applies a massive armor shred debuff on the target to make it into an anti tank artillary shot.
I always thought range AND safety were Cait's niche.
Who needs reasons?
Early game range is her niche. Not her fault people don't try to harass in lane.
With Cait you're supposed to bully your lane opponents and take towers/drags with that lead. Her range means considerably less lategame with her weak AA scaling.
Because you're Silver 5 and you don't know what a Niche is and your logic is a worst than a gr.10 student who never took academic courses
