Why does Blitz have a 0.5 second silence?

Short durations silences like this randomly tacked onto skills is so frustrating to fight. For starters, it's incredibly easy to miss that you're ever actually silenced until you realize you haven't used a combo properly. Silences in general are lame, but one that you just press R in the middle of a team? Not that it's overpowered, but it's just random power that's totally unnecessary on a design like Blitz in the first place.

Can we give him the Viktor treatment and get rid of it? There's no reason to have it.

I figured it was just to add the teensiest amount of time the target is locked down, combined with his Q and E.

It's not very powerful, which is probably why the ultimate is on such a low cooldown compared to other ultimate spells.

If we removed the silence off his ultimate, would he need compensation at all? Or is it just that negligible?

I think Blitz needs a lot of changes in general, this is extra power that isn't necessary.

It is very much necessary especially if you pull someone like Riven or Caitlyn. It prevents them from instantly dashing before you can E. I do it all the time against Blitz. If you don't have the silence people can easily run after you get pulled late game.

I'm aware of why they exist but Riot has already stated they don't like short duration silences like this in the past, which is why they removed Viktor's. Like, think about it dude - this is already on a champion that has a knock-up AA reset, channeling should be impossible against him regardless.

I think the reason they removed Viktor's was that it would repeatedly reapply the short duration silence each time the opponent was hit. Getting an ability to activate was semi-luck dependent since most people can't appropriately account for lag trying to find a 0.5s window to cast a spell.

Blitzcrank's Silence only applies once when activated.
