Is Master yi the strongest 1v1 Champion, even stronger then fiora? I had a matchup last game where a master yi lategame full equiped, defeated a fed fiora 1v1 and meanwhile killed 2 others. He basically killed her in few seconds,, she even had randuins and ninja tabs

Yi can Q to Malphite mid ult dash (since he remains targetable even if he's unstoppable), immediately dodging his highest burst ability, and he is immune to malphite's AS and MS slows with his ult, and deals absurd quantities of true damage at full build.

That or just W his initial burst combo (much simpler to pull off and still negates 70% damage at max level) and then shred him with DPS.

Malphite can't burst a good Yi, and if he builds armor he can't survive long enough to kill the Yi either.

Spoofghoul1 votes

No

You just spam Q on him to steal his movement and kite him so he is forced to use his q to engage you and only then do you ult

even if yi can't be slowed you can still take his movement and speed yourself up and kite him anyway :P

junglerboy161 votes

Any Yi worth his salt would hold his Q and just walk away if you tried to kite him, since you just wouldn't be worth fighting.

Jax will beat To due to his dodge...

it could go either way tbh. Yi could dodge it with Q

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

the dodge isn't just about the stun, it's about yi not being able to autoattack jax for 2 seconds, while Jax can do so. However, the Q you mentioned does cut down the duration of which the dodge is effective (since Jax is also not attacking Yi while he is in Q).

That being said, a point blank Q is near instant, so all he gets to do is escape the stun if he does it right, not the 2 seconds of Jax hitting him which will take quite a fair bit of hp off him already.

It can swing both ways like you said, depending on skill.

KONO RUBICK DA8 votes

master yi is the only one who can 1v1 fiora because he is immune to attack speed slow and has only AA

AmazoX1 votes

Immune to AS only when ULT is used right?

KONO RUBICK DA1 votes

yes

There's not a universal best duelist, just a group of duelists that are on a certain level

Off the top of my head I'd say top 5 in no particular order are

Nasus Jax Fiora MasterYi Tryndamere

And in this group, they all beat each other because of match-ups.

Ex: Nasus beats Trynd and Jax but loses to Yi and Fiora unless ridiculously stacked (we are talking 2 shot territory which is roughly 1200 stacks). Jax beats Trynd and Yi and fiora is a skill match-up. Fiora straight up loses to Trynd and likely Yi.

As you can see, there is no true best. Match-ups vary and these things change depending on the different things different kits do.

Sasogwa4 votes

Pretty much. I don't even think Jax beats bruiser rageblade Yi come lategame, if Yi keeps his true damage outside of Jax's E duration.

Starcraft243ver11 votes

Yi just need to meditate while jax use his e, then he Q the stun, starts R/E and he'll win quite easily.

Awhegark3 votes

Nah, Jax late game hurts so much that the meditate is going to dissapear in 1 second. Its better for yi to kite him with his insane movement speed ult while the E ends.

Spicy Rice7 votes

you realize

A. Meditate is channeled

B. It gives a ton of damage reduction

Tobias Brackner1 votes

It won't give enough. Jax will net gain dmg from it while slapping Yi and then the stun will go off for more Yi slaps.

Spicy Rice3 votes

Which is why you alpha stroke the stun

Tobias Brackner2 votes

Homie:

  1. Jax and Yi slap fight
  2. Jax activates Counterstrike
  3. Jax and Yi continue to slap, except Yi deals 0 dmg to Jax.
  4. Jax wins.

If Yi alpha strikes during the spin then the spin will keep going by the time Yi comes out, meaning he gets stunned and killed. If Yi alpha strikes the moment he sees the stun coming out, then he got slapped during the whole animation of the spin meaning he is still way behind on dmg.

PrinceVert1 votes

Homie:

  1. Jax and Yi slap fight
  2. Jax activates Counterstrike
  3. Yi activates meditate
  4. Jax slaps Yi dealing only 30% damage while Yi heals and get stacks for his passive
  5. Yi wins
Tobias Brackner1 votes

Post builds because from what I've seen of Jax he can out damage the meditate easy.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Yi builds tank though.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Then he is going to be WAY behind on dmg and Jax will definitely beat him down.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Well not if you build rageblade. Plus Yi builds more lifesteal than Jax and if Jax doesn't instaburst yi, Yi typically ends up outdamaging Jax.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

If you want to argue builds then post builds.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

So let's say lategame, at full build.

Jax atm typially builds this item 3748 item 3047 item 3078 item 3143 item 3065 item 3026

Yi this item 1419 item 3124 item 3153 item 3143 item 3156 item 3047

Jax doesn't nearly have enough damage against Yi in this case to instakill him. Yi's dps also ramps up very quickly thanks to ragebalde, and with Jax's inability to finish Yi off quickly, Yi's superior DPS kicks in and kills jax. To add salt to the wound, maw gives yi increased ability to survive against Jax and will ultimately cause him to be pretty unkillable to jax.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

wtf is that jax build?

Why is Jax not building Rageblade or BoRK?

What is the enemy teamcomp that he needs to build so much tank?

Why is Yi building item 3124 instead of item 3142 ?

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Look up OP gg. You'll see what I mean.

The highest korean players (hell, even hashinshin) build Titanic>Force.

No one builds BOTRK anymore.

Ghostblade on yi is outdated as hell too.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

So you don't know why people build these things?

Because that is the question I asked.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Homie, if someone asks you "why do people build this way" you don't say "well these are the guys who build this way" you say "this is why people build this way."

And that video answers no question aside from "at high elo, everyone plays around teamfights." So I guess, yeah, if you build Jax to do something that he was never really meant to be good at then he will lose to Yi in a duel.

However if you play the champ the way the champ wants to be played, he will mop the floor with Yi.

And thank you for your information on Ghostblade's loss of Attack Speed. I didn't give that the credit that it was due, although I still think there is something to say about the power spike of that little bit of extra Lethality since Yi builds AS early and has it on his ult.

So I guess the problem here is that you don't actually know what either champion builds.

Youmuu's on Yi over rageblade? Lul.

Yi scales hugely with on-hits, probably better than any champion in the game. Having his E apply true damage 50% more is huge, along with the percent health damage of bloodrazor and bork.

Jax without tank items is easily bursted my dude, and even with a full damage build he does less DPS than Yi with the posted bruiser on-hit build.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

With this build, yes, but that's a much tankier build for jax than typical. Make jax's build offensive with rageblade, and jax wins. Jax gets tankyness from AD when ultying, so it is no surprise tank jax is less effecitve at dueling than offensive jax.

This is the most common Jax build.

RavenMagus1 votes

It depends entirely on Jax's stun. If Jax stuns Yi, Jax wins pretty much instantly. If Yi kites it out or dodges it with alpha, then Yi wins handily.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Not really dodges it with Alpha. If Jax just lets the dodge ride he ignores Yi dmg while beating in his face.

RavenMagus1 votes

Yi can either kite him out with his ult or meditate during the counterstrike. The second is a bit harder since you have to anticipate Jax releasing the stun early - but the window's really large if you have minions nearby to bounce Alpha Strike to, which lengthens the invulnerability window.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I'm really not sure how viable the meditate option is. Jax shits out a lot of dmg on his own. I can easily see Jax out damaging the Meditate and just killing Yi before he ever leaves it.

Jax has some of the lowest DPS of any skirmisher, possibly the lowest. He will do scratch damage to a meditating Yi.

Uh, source?

Practice tool for one. Jax with his meta build has like 700 DPS. A crit Yi (which does less DPS than on-hit) is IIRC like 1,900. Tryndamere is about 1,200-1,500 depending on build. Yasuo's typical build gets about 1,000 DPS.

It's also just common sense. Jax can't itemize for any pen very effectively and he has to build a fair amount of bulk to be effective. The three champions I named shred tanky targets far faster than Jax does.

An on-hit Yi with some defense items while meditating is a very tanky target.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Post a build dude...You aren't giving me a source you are just saying numbers.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

IDK, I did crit yi in practice tool and I hit 2400.

Frightning3 votes

Tryndamere: 5 seconds is plenty enough time to kill a MasterYi Jax: Already a very good duelist, his E can make MasterYi unable to deal damage to him for quite while Never count out these champs in a late game duel either: Kayle, Riven, Vayne, Vi, Yasuo, Zed.

Starcraft243ver5 votes

To be honnest Zed is an easy no match for yi, he trishot him late game and can follow him back on his ult shadow with Q, even if he took a lot of damages he can still meditate to cancel most zed's ult damages.

Just meditate while kayle ult.

Riven can be annoying if she can pull a perfect combo. Trynda as well, but yi can run away with ult, and trynda can't slow him down so, he can run, and then come back when tryndas ult ends.

Vayne, well, it's vayne, depends if the condemn is good.

No way vi would win, i dont see yasuo winning either if yi is a bit tanky

It all relies on yi's itemisation and execution. Mind games to Q a condemn, a shuriken, a tornado, the riven ult on time, using the qss right, smart use of meditate to either reset auto or mitigate damages.

Frightning1 votes

Zed v Yi: Good Zed will use both W and R shadows to keep yi from getting stand on him and do damage, the real question is whether the burst will w/ ult will be enough, as a good Yi will W the ult-pop damage to mitigate it. (Also depends on item choices, a tankier Yi build will likely be harder for Zed to deal with, but may make it easier for Zed to escape if he can't kill Yi)

W during Kayle R is pretty good reply, as it mitigates a lot of damage from Kayle, that said, built properly, she has a LOT of DPS and 3 seconds is a lot of time to wail on someone with that much DPS.

Riven and Vi can both deny Yi any mitigation with their CC and have a ton of burst, so full squish Yi will lose, and if Yi isn't squish, then they have competitive DPS to back up their front-loaded damage (I've 100-0'd a late game Riven who E'd for shield as Vi with just one rotation and she was CC'd for most of it too).

OMGSoAnnoying1 votes

That, and if Vi builds enough damage, her 3-hit % health passive just gets batshit crazy. I think the best i ever had it to was 19%. Sure, it's all physical damage, but Yi is a glass cannon. He's going to take almost all of it.

Q-AA-E-AA-R-AA-E and he's dead. Hell, just about anyone who doesn't have 200 armor is dead with that combo. You can also swap the Q for R.

Another one who can do it (but with difficulty) is Xin Zhao, especially if built on-hit (item 3153 item 1419 item 3124 item 3078) If you have the passive going from Guinsoo's, the on-hit gets bats and you have enough attack speed to deliver it... a lot.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

What you didnt account for is the ability yi will dodge with alpha and the one he will mitigate with W)
