I have perma-banned Vayne from season 4 to season 8. Season 8 she was finally out of meta with Vayne 2.0 having hit the scene. Yes, Kaisa . So I got to experience the freedom of banning 1 of 10 OP jumpy bruisers instead. Or, actually banning befitting my role or character. I even had the luxury of banning on a teammates request.

Buuut, I guess that is over and I'm back to banning Vayne every game. Swell...

Or you know....

You could learn how to play vs the champion.

I enjoy playing immobile Tanks. Ya know, strategic things over reflex things. Personal preference. Tell me, ow mighty Vayne main. How I am to play vs this champion. Which clearly I have not learned to do in the 5 years of playing this game. And it clearly being an issue of my lack of skill or adaptiveness.

Pick a champion that plays well against Vayne. The game cannot be balanced around what you want to or like to play.

Any form of hard cc or engage is brutal for Vayne to play against, as well as good AoE. Maokai for instance dunks Vayne. Also, request lane dominant bot lanes to suppress Vayne.

If all else fails, ban Vayne.

Counterpicking isn't counterplay.

Honestly when people use that excuse "cc counters X champion" it just sounds dumb. No shit holding someone in place and not letting them escape/fight back is a good counter.

If the only counterplay is "just cc and focus them" then they don't have counterplay.

you're talking about vayne as if vayne didn't have a support in the bot lane or something that is also damaging you. if there is a brand vayne combo what are you gonna do, if there is a vayne and heimer combo what are you gonna do, if there is a vayne and morgana combo what are you gonna do, I could go on but there are just so many that it would take hours.

There are no hard counterpicks in League. League never relied on the Overwatch mechanic of "swapping heroes" for the sake of "adapting" your team comp to deal with a different set of challenges in the game.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

I call bull. There are 100% hardcounters in league. Some champions literally don't stand a chance against others.

Tomoe Gozen1 votes

Having problems laning against certain champions is called a soft counter, you're never unable to not do anything about the position you're in.

For example, Vayne, Jayce, Quinn top against a melee juggernaut can be a tough matchup but the moment the melee jug prevails once, ranged champs are screwed. They rely on keeping up the aggression to create a lead but one jungle gank can topple their fragile lane and they will no longer be able to keep the more beefy champ at bay.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

Put champs in 1v1 situations to really realize what hard and soft counters are. Yasuo is a hard counter to just about every mage in the game. Once he can play properly, most mages lose out to Yasuo at all stages of the game with no other team interference. A perfectly played Yasuo, say vs, a perfectly played Ahri is going to bring Yasuo out on top every time. No ifs ands or buts.

But put Yasuo vs Pantheon and watch him get shredded for a good chunk of the game. He's going to be eaten left right and center at almost all stages of the game vs a Pantheon and to some extent, some duelists as well. Pantheon gets outscaled, so lets put him in lie with Fiora, instead. A perfectly played Fiora will crap on Yasuo 100% of the time under 100% of situations.

This is what hard counters are. Hard counters did not exist in league before, when damage was lower and there were more outplay options, but now it's insane to think that's not the case now.

Out of curiosity, which tanks? Cho and Sion? I think the other tanks have some on-demand mobility/engage at least.

Escheton2 votes

Even Sion has his ult. But that can be tumbled out of easily. But yes, primarily Sion. And before Singed became unplayable except as a glorified support, Singed also.

Thats the problem you're playing immobile tanks against vayne you're not suppose to be able to take her 1vs1 if she knows her champion.

Nami Hey OP,

I edited your post because using pejorative language is not appropriate on Boards.

If you have any questions about this moderation action, don't hesitate to reach out to the Boards Moderation Team via:

The thread didn't use pejorative language. The rule states, "Do not use any language intended to express contempt for an individual or concept on the basis of ethnicity/race, sexual orientation, gender, religion, etc., even if intended humorously or jokingly."

He did not use language that 'expressed contempt' for any individual(s). He used a verb that is synonymous for stupid.

Just gonna pretend that no such individuals could be reading Boards? And that the "or concept" part isn't there? Or the "even if intended humorously or jokingly" part?

Funner and more accurate fact: the word it's based on originates from the Latin word for "black." It has nothing to do with "%%%%%rdly," the word you're confusing it with.

Terozu15 votes

Another even more accurate and fun fact, Negro(which is what actually originates for the latin word for black, Nigreo) and Nr were both used at the same time period. Negro for black people and Nr for people who dont pay taxes. Eventually N****r became synonomous with Negro.

So no, Nr didnt come from Nigreo, Negro did, then people essentially gave Nr Negro's meaning.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%%%%%%#Related_words

The word n---ardly (miserly) is etymologically unrelated to n-----, derived from the Old Norse word nig (stingy) and the Middle English word nigon. In the US, this word has been misinterpreted as related to n----- and taken as offensive. In January 1999, David Howard, a white Washington, D.C. city employee, was compelled to resign after using n---ardly—in a financial context—while speaking with black colleagues, who took umbrage. After reviewing the misunderstanding, Mayor Anthony Williams offered to reinstate Howard to his former position. Howard refused reinstatement but took a job elsewhere in the mayor's government.[106]

And, if I may, I'd like to remind readers of my original point with this, which is that using the r-word in this context is not acceptable.

EDIT: Replace the link's filtered text with the n-word to view the reference page.

Well, anything has the possibility of being offensive in the right context. Might as well not allow any form of communication since the context could be negative.

Unfortunately for this straw man argument, believing that one thing is offensive isn't the same as believing that everything is offensive. There is a gray area but the r-word is not in it. Even those who find it inoffensive should understand that many others will disagree with that assessment.

Kattzy2 votes

Thanks for standing your ground on this one, dude. It blows my mind that some people still don't understand that the r-word is not acceptable. There are so many other words that can be used to express what the OP was looking for, so why not get creative and go for something that's not deeply offensive to many people?

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

It stems from the Latin verb r*tardare, meaning to hinder or make slow.

If we're using the actual latin root, then it makes no sense cause it's a verb.

You don't call people with defects %%%%%%ed. Nobody does. We call each other this way, because it is an INSULT. Guess what they are for. For insulting. They are meant to be insulting. They have nothing in common with ill people. I don't know any person who used it regarding ill people. Censoring "%%%%%%ed" is completely stupid. It actually adds this word as a synonym for mentally ill, instead of removing it from that enviournment.

I use "%%%%%%ed" often and I do not think about ill people when I do so. And when I see an ill person, I don't think "%%%%%%ed". I think, "oh, a mentally ill person", because that is what normal person does, instead of being oversensitive.

"%%%%%%ed" isn't a banned word here nor in game. It's also something Riot doesn't ban at first sight, it's only when you're using it with the intent to harass someone to no end. I don't see how this is offensive by simply voicing your opinion on a champion's state, even if you're being a bit brazen with your language.

Let's not go into the territory of unnecessary censorship for the sake of having the boards be PG-13. I could understand moderating overly "strong language" posts (even if it's not meant for anyone specific) but this isn't even the situation we find ourselves in. This is literally just one common word "moderated out" of the post because hey, it could be insulting IF directed to another person - which it wasn't.

What if i say "low ELO players won't understand X problem"? Should the boards mods moderate my post on the off chance that some low ELO player would read it and find themselves offended that the problem i'm describing is beyond their understanding, because they're not skilled enough to understand a more complex issue?

Yes, it is a banned word here. Mods have removed/edited such posts for a long while (look at the OP), and it was recently added to the censor (look at your own post), as you can clearly see. If you think it's not a banned word in game, you should therefore feel free to use it without being reported/punished for it, right?

Yes, if you rank shame here and the mods see it, they'll remove/edit your post.

Tomoe Gozen2 votes

I've been using this word for years and i've never been punished for it. Mind you, i don't throw it around like it's free candy but no, Riot doesn't punish any instance of this word showing up in your chat logs for any reason. Context of the word matters, not the mere usage of it.

You can preach otherwise but there are ways of working around a simple word filter so no, this won't stop people from using it any more than the mods editing the post for weak reasons. The word wasn't directed at anyone in particular and the post wasn't worded in an overly-aggressive manner. So i don't see a reason to make it a more "flowers and rainbows" friendly post by editing the "bad, bad word" out.

Yes, if you rank shame here and the mods see it, they'll remove/edit your post.

This is a prime example of you not caring about the context, but getting triggered by mere words that you chose to interpret as hostile to you. If you came here complaining how Ryze is shit because in low ELO, you can't do anything - my counter argument to this would be that in high ELO, he's very much a viable mid laner that's gated by his high mechanical skill cap. So you don't have the necessary skill required to play him at his best. That would've been a fact, not an insult.

So, you're moving from "it's allowed" to "the rules are bad and I can find my way around them"? I wish you luck in your future endeavors.

Tomoe Gozen2 votes

You seem to lack some basic reading comprehension because that's not what i have said. It's allowed and the rules of the boards don't forbid strong language. One thing is to go too far with it in a post even if it's not directed at anyone in particular, a completely other thing is to go out of your way to remove an instance of a "bad word" because YOUR definition of it is always negative. To me, this looks like a case of the latter, which is a form of censorship. The mods in this case didn't change the context of this thread but even if it's a little bit abrasive, the freedom of expression was changed to fit a more "composed" narrative.

If i call Vayne a "bitch", should this instance of a word be edited out of my comment because someone on the other end thinks that i'm referring to Vayne's promiscuity OR am i expressing my frustration with a champion that's been historically a problem when she's been given an inch in a bit more utility and/or damage?

Calling someone a %%%%%% is offensive. Saying something is %%%%%%ed, is not offensive. In this context, it's completely different usage. And that's what matters when you engage in a conversation.

OP's intent wasn't to offend someone, it was to show his displeasure about a specific buff he doesn't personally like. And that's not forbidden on the boards, especially when the mods don't remove i'll intent from threads that intentionally create and foster a negative environment, specifically there to circiejerk and provide no actual discussion whatsoever. I guess that being passive-aggressive is allowed because no one is using "bad" words.
