How does one soloq support

Succubús GF··1 votes·698 views

Feel free to check my last game, so hard to even try to win. I died the least, surprisingly, had the most kills (most damage so it wasnt a ks) Halfway in the game, lucian said "im going to get food" How does one even win without a carry in general. Supporting in soloq is so frustrating i just dont understand

You don't win every game regardless of your role, support isn't unique in that way.

As a solo queue support main, the key tends to be figuring out who the best player on your team is, and who the worst is. Either get the former super fed and/or keep them alive, or babysit the worst one so you can keep them from feeding too much until the rest of the team can get by. Which one you focus on would vary based on your support choice and the particular skill levels of those involved and/or their scalings.

I actually kinda like climbing as a solo support main, because I'm confident in my own play so I expect to be able to outplay my opponents, but by the nature of support (...when played properly) you 'force' someone else to become really strong too, and then it becomes two people carrying the game, instead of other roles where if you're a god, you're still just one person.

I will say silver it s hard to solo-queue as support but I have climbed 3 accounts through silver to gold and I played support in nearly all my games on one account. Tips that help:

  • Figure out if your ADC is aggressive or a farmer early - Supports do dictate the lane but it is important to note how your ADC plays
  • Ward - build sightstone every game - Most gold players are a bit under 1 ward per minute of game play. The good supports average 1 minute per minute and sometimes a bit more
  • Supports dictate the lane - they are typically the ones that call the shots and dictate the tempo - you should be making all engages
  • Play a disengage style or poke early game - This is safer in lower elo than initiating first ALWAYS play responsively except when jungler is rotating to you the players will make more mistakes in that elo and you want to hold your abilities until after
  • I had to play Brand support on one account to climb it through silver. I got tired of playing Leona and having no player respond when I went in. Most of the time if I play her my ADC was someone I knew, very high elo and followedup, or completely understood why and when I would go in
  • You are under no obligation to stay with an ADC that keeps throwing you under the bus or is not very good. Stay until level 6 and then ward roam around to the mid lane - once the towers in the bot lane are gone you should be roaming anyways but a lot of low elo players keep going everywhere with the adc
  • Place your wards in defendable positions - by this I mean play them in the corners of bushes so that if someone sweeps it you can attack them safely and they have to go into harms way to kill the ward. I place my pink in the corner on the tribush closest to the my base and I place my pink on the river closest to the lane if I am on red side
  • Don't argue with your ADC and be polite. If they are being a jerk just mute them. Silver players argue a lot among each other and it hinders gameplay. The bot lane usually is the first to turn on each other so keep that in mind.

I will suggest also play supports that are pretty safe and have disengage. That way you can escape if you get in trouble. Also establish ward lines, places wards that are safe and re-ward those spots. You move the line up and down based on if you are winning or losing.
