One that doesnt think too much damage is "a good thing!" One that doesnt make cancer like Zoe Akali Leblanc <-- this is coming from a lb mastery 7 BTW even we know she's fucking bullshit One that doesn't see "HM dark harvest is already broken, let's break it some more" One that does care about the player base.

Sincerely, Toki Lily

I don't know what your original post said, as I am no longer a moderator, but I know that at least when I was one we cut a very hard line between calling out individuals versus groups.

Calling out individuals is a very clear case of naming a shaming, whereas calling out a group is different.

May I know why aren't you a mod anymore?

Fondling Gems1 votes

Sure, it mostly came down to stress + workload.

I became a mod shortly before starting college and after a couple months balancing the two started to become too hard. I was only helping out a couple of tickets per week and there was a lot of stuff going on in the Moderation team at the time. A big wash of changes that we enacted, lots of discussions about GD at the time, a bit of drama thrown into the mix as well.

Basically I didn't have the time to devote enough of myself to moderation as I would have needed to to keep up with everything. I was part of the first wave of the boards volunteers so I held on until we had pulled in and finished training a new wave (Think it was 3rd wave?) before pulling out in the quiet time that followed to cause minimal disturbance.

Never really announced it anywhere but I was never one of the super well known mods, especially since "back in my day" we had different mods for different sections of the boards. I was part of Roaming so we took care of all the tiny boards like Mechs vs Minions & Player Recruitment so no one really notices when we vanish. I actually think every other mod who was in Roaming with me has retired to "Veteran" status at this point.

Asked this question once to Laughing Fish, his answer was pretty similar to yours. is it really so stressfull to be a mod?

(It's not hard to not notice you with that name of yours :D)

Fondling Gems1 votes

Modding definitely has some stress attached to it, but it also depends on the position you are in. As a member of Roaming there wasn't much stress put on by the community or queue values (Comparatively Mods in GD, Gameplay, and Memes&Games get a ton of community feedback, both good and bad while also having queues of tickets that can get really backed up)

However just being a mod is kinda stressful and changes how you interact with everyone. Just by virtue of your name being a different colour you have to watch what you say, play nice, moderate everything you see, and handle people asking questions you know nothing about.

So personally more of the stress came in due to watching how I interacted with the community than the difficulty of actually moderating. It didn't help that my name has always been borderline rule breaking and I liked to chat a lot with people like Taric the Gay. Stuff could get out of hand pretty quickly if people decided to take offense and having to retype everything I posted 5 times just to make sure I was as nice as possible made it difficult to stay engaged with the community.

That being said actually moderating could be stressful too. Redirecting posts in the wrong section (which is 90% of what Roaming had to deal with) is easy enough, but having to choose how to handle different situations while explaining why things aren't allowed isn't easy. A single difficult post could take half an hour of figuring out how to explain things in a both polite and clear manner. For the other roles I know there were times where over a hundred tickets would get backed up, and of course people would frequently request moderators on the Discord as well. To top it all off we held (still hold maybe?) weekly meetings to discuss how to improve the boards as a whole.

I think that moderating in any position is always going to be stressful, especially when you are acting as the face of a major company but only have a single employee of said company that you can easily contact.

Based on the amount of turnover in the role I doubt I am the only mod that thinks this way. Also just look at how many downvotes most pinned comments end up getting. Entire threads get derailed to hate on some mods, even though mods are just here to help enforce the rules of the boards, something they do for free and without any expectation of thanks. (Okay technically we all got the Riot ward so it isn't really for free.)

Whenever I get out of M&G, and try to have a serious discussion, it happens to me too. Once I literally spent half hour to write an answer that would show my emotions, and didn't feel too rude. Being non native english speaker doesn't help neither. So I know that feel https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/mobile/000/005/393/IKIFEEL.jpg

  1. Overall damage is too high.

  2. These champions are frustrating to play against:

  3. Dark Harvest is not in a balanced state.

Not hard to find three valid points worth discussing.

They make no arguments though. They're derogatory at every moment.

One that doesnt think too much damage is "a good thing!"

He's instantly assuming that the Balance Team's positon is "Too much damage is good". Who wants to argue/discuss something with someone who immediately stats off their 'discussion' with a Strawman? This is someone whose clearly more on to witch hunting, as seen by his current Title, than it is about starting Meaningful discussion about damage.

I don't think it is witch hunting - rather frustration.

After agreeing that damage is too high (twelve months of complaints in), Riot releases the new Dark Harvest, just shifts the rune stat bonuses somewhere else and introduces completely inefficient defensive stats that are not worth taking instead of adding a true buff to overall defense.

Yes, arguments seem to increasingly go missing in more and more board threads, but I believe this is due to the fact the community does not feel listened to anymore. Rightfully so.

My post actually had several points. And besides it's not like riot cares considering rioters only respond in story and art Thanks for your input though

ModAcademy Kayn4 votes

rioters only respond in story and art

You mean, all the Narrative, Skins, and Art Rioters, who have no direction or input on balance or game design? Are you really that entitled that every Rioter must answer every question you have no matter what their expertise or department is? And you have points. But you don't have discussion. You start off your thread immediately asking for a new balance team in your title.

There is no discussion in that. You're witch hunting.

Are you trolling or... Rioters in s/a/s are responsive but i never once said they owed an explanation, i was simply saying generally rioters dont respond unless it's in topics like that. Not a witch hunt, just a fact. There hasn't been one game balancer response in gameplay in forever. But i guess "mUH WITCH HUNT"

ModAcademy Kayn5 votes

And besides it's not like riot cares considering rioters only respond in story and art

You're complaining about Riot doesnt care, because rioters only respond in story and art. You make no distinction that only S/A/S Rioters respond in those threads, so it can easily come off as you complaining that only those boards are the only ones Rioter respond to, when they should be in gameplay instead. I'm sorry for misunderstanding, but that's what your sentence said.

And are you kidding? Yes, it might not be in the Gameplay Boards, but Meddler does his consistent Gameplay Thought posts. Are you just ignoring those, or do you not count them because they're not replying in strawman filled hate fests, like this post?

Succubús GF1 votes

So just gonna throw it out there, you called me he several times up there^^ and just wanted to check if your eyes still worked as my name literally says Lily

Sorry I don't go Only story art and sound rioters are active Thought that would be a given that it's their department??

Explain what about this is strawman? If you look at dark harvest right now and think, JEE what a good decision, then I have to say that's an incompetent statement. (Of course you are a Kayn main who is abusing dh, so bias is just a bit there.) Meddler does gameplay thoughts sure, but generally speaking, that's all we get. They used to be a lot more in touch with us, and then stopped caring so :^)

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Names don't mean shit. I'm a guy and my name was Dr Mercy for a long time (That's right, it's me). There's the joke of GIRLS = Guys In Real Life for a reason (it's an acronym). In reality, it doesn't matter, cause I'm going to treat you the same whether you're a guy or gal, so unless you think it matters that I know you're really a girl, it's a non-issue.

Explain what about this is strawman?

Dear santa Riot, for christmas i would like a new balance team:

One that doesnt think too much damage is "a good thing!"

The above is a strawman, as you are assuming that is their stance, and then going off that as it's easier to argue. Their actual position on damage, is that there is too much Upfront damage, with their belief that average damage is overall the same. Which as they have been going about, having been trying to lessen upfront damage, which is shown by the concept of the new DH (even if it might be a miss) and a lot of the nerfs to Runes that occurred months ago.

Cancer is subjective, Akali's only pain is the true stealth thing, other than that she's honestly pretty well made. That's ignoring, however, that those are not because of the Balance team. Thats the Champion Design team you're complaining about, so another thing you're wrong about.

Dark Harvest, I don't know if that's due to the Balance Team or not, but once again, New DH follows Riot's stance that upfront damage is too high, so they chose to backload. There's room to balance it with a lower Proc value of Percentage health, because it's now backloaded. But nah, we're crying for reverts before a week has even passed.

I haven't had an opinion on DH's power level itself, because I haven't had that many games with it, still adjusting to it from what I've always ran on Kayn, electrocute. Bias is a none issue here, you can check my match history, I haven't played a lot. My opinion on it as a concept however, is where I disagree that it's more toxic than the original, and while i have my problems with it like it proccing from Teemo Shrooms and Karthus ults (Infinite range Ults), I think it's healthier in concept.

It just needs refining, like plenty people have said, it's execute range could definitely be lower, and I think that's a good idea. But people crying and screaming to revert it, saying it's nothing but garbage and Riot's dumb for implementing, is where I think people are being close minded.

Idk its just stupid to assume "girl" especially when it says lily Dr mercy vs lily is incomparable One is a name for a human, one is a game character. God forbid you admit that just assuming male is stupid :^)

Akali has had one of the highest ban rates since her release, it's not subjective you are wrong thanks.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

If we're being literal about names, Toki is a board game. Should I assume you're a board game because your name has Toki in it? It really doesn't matter.

Match history

Aight? My Match history over the 2 days show a 6/5 win-lose ratio. If I was trying to defend it being broken, wouldn't it make more sense to have more wins under my belt? I've told you, I think it's fine in concept, it just needs tuning.

Akali Banrate

Except it is though. The fact that we can disagree on it means it's subjective. Objective is that the sky is blue, grass is green, facts. So what Akali has a high banrate, that doesn't make her any harder for me to deal with? One of her mechanics might be to weighted towards the player than the opponent, that can be objective, but perception of a champion is subjective.

Her banrate in itself means it is less subjective, and more of a fact that it lacks interaction/counterplay

But there are people who aren't banning her. Which means there are people who don't mind playing against her.

I don’t understand the Zoe hate. I find that LeBlanc and Akali to be many magnitudes worse to play against because their damage is so much harder to avoid compared to Zoe’s skill shots, while simultaneously being way safer due to shroud/distortion.

knobblez3 votes

The problem with zoe is if you are not a tank and you get hit with a sleep, you dead. They thought it was inventive and creative to dedicate a normal spell to extra summoners while making her Q a Nidalee spear on steroids. The problem is zoe can R over a wall, ignite you while also hitting you with a nuke Q, disappearing back over the wall and still have a flash and exhaust on-deck.

Just think about other champs kits compared to hers.

Q (nuke) [nerf this] R (flash then return), Sleeper (basically a long stun). 3 summoners<--i think this is the problem, really.[change this]

It seems a lot of the hated champs are nukes with extreme mobility.

Overhaul the items, that's the underlying problem. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. We need to shy away from strictly gold to damage value. Now is the time to get some meta defining counterplay focused items.

It would be nice to see thornmail get a hard nerf in stats and give it an active with huge damage to anyone hitting them for any damage. We need new ways to counterplay aggressive champs. Because right now the counter to an assassin is a better assassin to assassinate them first and that's degrading the game.

Give tanks fun and impactful ways to counter them, and Squishies a means to counterplay them solo. All too often I'll play adc on a team full of assassin's, against a team full of them, and be near useless. All I can do is split push and hope that the lane pressure is enough to impact the game because when I group I'm instantly one hit.

Rework the tank items imo that would fix the whole game. Maybe take out some of the synergy of builds to create wider diversity of options. The synergy just decentivizes building differently. If you bought archangels, it's very hard to not get roa, void staff and deathcap, and then you have maybe one flex slot.
