Why did Jax and Kayle lose their free stats passives over 3 years ago

While Vlad has kept his for so long

It's not like they were worse offenders than him either, he breaks spellvamp harder than either of them and is also manaless.

Terribly designed champion that should've been reworked awhile ago, now he's top tier again

I think the biggest difference between Jax/Kayle and Vlad is that the former two are auto attack based champions. Also, just to establish this, Vlad has had his passive nerfed a few times, and at this point its only worth it to build AP and get hp from it; very rarely is the passive used the other way (and if it is, the AP he is receiving is minor).

Now, because vlad's damage is limited by cool downs, he doesn't steam roll over champions as easily as champions like Jax and Kayle do. I don't mean to say that Vlad is particularly well balanced, but when Jax built his auto attack damage (which is on a what, 1 second cooldown?), got sustain, and damage stats all at the same time, he was quickly becoming impossible to deal with. Vlad, on the other hand, has to go through multiple QE rotations to wear an opponent down (bear in mind that doing so would also push the lane).

Bottom line is I think Kayle and Jax lost their free stat passives because it made them too effective at controlling lanes due to their play styles. Vlad doesn't control the lane the same way these champions do, and as a result, has been allowed to keep his.

Jax because he had a rework when dodge was removed. Kayle was also given a rework because she was a massive problem. Riot probably saw an opportunity to give her a more interesting passive.

There are other examples. Azir gets CDR/AS bits and Shyvana and Wukong just have more armour and magic resist.

EDIT Akali also still gets stats for stats.

Jax easily could've kept his passive with the new E

Wukong's stats are conditional and aren't always up, while Vlad's have no downtime

Azir's are both offensive stats and he doesn't get massive defensive stats from building damage

As for Shyvana, yea I concede that. Don't know what Riot was thinking when they made her passive lol

He could've, but Riot had the opportunity to give him something more interesting, and so they did.

Azir does get stats from building other stats though - the OP did not make that clear. There is also Akali.

What were the old passives?

FalconPawwwwnch2 votes

Jax would get 3 bonus HP/bonus AD and 2 bonus HP/AP Kayle got 30% of her AD as bonus AP and 15% of her AP as bonus AD

Back when Rageblade/Gunblade were actually decent on somebody

I guess they haven't thought of something to replace his passive with.

How about "Vlad's abilities gain 5% spell vamp per rank in them"

Then we delete spell vamp(and give similar changes to champions who build it). Or rework it. Make it give HP based off mana consumed(as long as it damages an enemy target).

While he loses bonus AP/HP. He can make up for it by having an extra slot open. And spell vamp can be reworked into being useful.

Yea that sounds more creative

Makes it so he doesn't need to be so reliant on spellvamp to be good and just have his kit give him the regen
