Why can't you give Wukong the Ekko and Jinx treatment?

Wukong Airlines··49 votes·4,003 views

I don't understand, what is WRONG with MonkeyKing that you keep neglecting his need for adjustment?

I'm not asking for buffs, I'm not asking for VGU Urgot Warwick ..or a mini rework XinZhao .. all I want for MonkeyKing is to be treated fairly.

Few patches ago you adjusted Ekko 's passive to be viable and better in the jungle, next patch Jinx is getting an adjustment that would put her in a better spot, why can't you do that to Wukong? Why arent you even ANSWERING all of those Wukong mains' questions?

Please don't tell me "it's part of the bigger plan", there is no bigger plan for Wu, he will never be touched for the next 2 years I BET you. I just want a Rioter to goddamn communicate for once and tell us what the hell is going on and why the silence.

It's so disappointing to be dedicated to a champion that you love just to see it get less and less viable every patch, + the fact that new champions with new mechanics are joining the game. No matter how good you do with Wu, you'll never be rewarded equally compared with every champion in the roster.

inb4 someone tells me "but MonkeyKing +item 3147 synergy 1shot" , not it's not about the damage and the 1shot, everyone is 1shotting everyone this preseason, it's the useless passive and outdated kit that keeping his playstyle creativity to its minimum.

Wukong is fucked in general, he's supposed to be a sorta tanky fighter but everyone plays him like an assassin and so when he's strong he's overbearing.

He needs help desperately

"Tanky" is a bit much (people tend to think you mean tanky like a Juggernaut or a Tank when you say that I've learned >_<) but Durable for sure. I like playing him as a Diver because I like playing durable champs. I don't play Assassins because I don't like playing Squishy champs who can get blown up easily.

Arakadia5 votes

His assassin rotation when strong is pretty horrible to play against. Changes are probably needed before he can get anymore power.

kargish1 votes

Sounds like a theme for a character that was released around a similar time Rengar

Solidair31 votes

Hm, I don't know about that one. While people did play Rengar as a sort-of tank at a time, I'm of the min that he was supposed to be played like an assassin.

Not that he isn't fundamentally broken, too.

kargish1 votes

He was supposed to be played like a diver with high burst. However, because of the 2.5 AD ratio Q, people didn't give a shit about being a diver as they could just instant delete anyone before the fight even began. So assassin Rengar became mainstream, even though it was never intended.

Literally I was playing a game today as Shyv jungle. I warded the enemy Wu's blue, and when he went for it I came around to kill him. He just flashed over the wall before I could even do anything and typed in all chat "look, we both know the monkey is useless, okay, so just leave me alone" I checked his stats, and he mains wukong and he even says that lol

Wukong Airlines4 votes

There's literally no reason to pick Wu over any other jungler or toplaner. he brings nothing new at all, his knockup is a primary skill in a lot of bruisers example JarvanIV Aatrox Ornn etc, thats the only CC he has, for 1 sec on a high CD, the rest of his kit doesn't have synergy at all "E boosts your AS but your combo has to be E>AA>Q>R for example so you dont use that AS, + the useless passive that is even more useless because dmg is upped this preseason

The steam life2 votes

I mean his knock up is better than everyone’s but ornns and is more reliable and he does way more damage. Now I’m not saying he’s better but he brings a lot to the table.

There's literally no reason to pick Wu over any other jungler or toplaner.

As a former Wukong main, that's honestly not true.

Infernape8 votes

Well he was the prime candidate alongside Aatrox for a class update. But we all know what Riot did with those.

I can recall them saying that certain champions were going to get their own gameplay updates. Azir, Xin Zhao, and Rek'Sai got theirs. Aatrox's is upcoming. I'd hazard a guess and say he's the next one in line after Aatrox. Unless they decide to give him a full VGU.

Woodakoodashooda3 votes

If Wu received a complete VGU, I'd quit.

don't say that before you actually see what they might have planned for him. They might keep a lot of things similar and you may like it.

They're reworks have been pretty damn on point recently

Depends on which one. I LOATHE what they did to Sej and Galio. WW is great. So its pretty hit or miss for me. Basically Wu getting a VGU means either he'll be great again, or I won't want to play him ever again.

Galio rework is fine, just numbers were off.

Yeah for me the numbers don't matter. His old kit was more fun, I liked him as tank, as a mage, not so much. Tried him couple times, haven't played him since.

Durzaka4 votes

Youre very confusing.

The VGU changed him from a mage to a tank. And then number tweaks fucked him up and made him a really weak and slightly durable mage.

So make up your mind. if you like him as a tank then the VGU is a MASSIVE improvement.

He played like a mage, but he was a tank.

Durzaka2 votes

He was a tank that built heavy AP and damage with some durability. He was just a durable mage.

He had nothing in his kit that actually let him be a tank except his ult, which he almost couldnt use without using Flash as well.

He is still a tank now. And a much better one than he was before.

Yeah I disagree. I could win damn near every game I played with the old one, get S easily. Now I can't do shit with him and I hate him.

Durzaka3 votes

You might not like how he plays. Thats irrelevant.

In terms of actual gameplay, style, and cohesion, he is MILES better. Even if you arent good with him.

If we are talking about if I trust Riot to rework a champ, its the ONLY thing that's relevant.

Maybe for you, but guess what? your opinion doesnt matter. In the grand scheme of things, he had one of the most successful VGUs.

But that's your opinion which is just as irrelevant as his. Just because you think it's good doesn't mean every one else did too

Personal opinion:

Warwick, Xin Zhao, Urgot, Evelynn, and Yorick where all massive improvements. I definitely like the end results of all of them in comparison. Please know that I hate Evelynn as a champion, but I'm trying to remain unbiased here and so I recognize that her rework was definitely a massively popular and improved job.

Galio is a bit more complicated. From a Visual Update I think we can all agree he looks and plays a lot more smoother. I understand that people don't agree with his change from anti-ap tank -> anti-ap mage, but if you can put aside that disagreement his only real flaws were his numbers.

Sej...ya. She looks really cool but is just a horrible design imo. Idk though.

In total though, we've seen some massive improvements in reworks.

I enjoyed him way more as tank than a mage, I'm sorry for me, its not just the numbers. They changed his story to make him more a protector, and then made his kit more an oppressor. His old kit fit his story more than his new one. Plus old Galio was straight up OP as fuck in URF. Nobody played him but he was basically unbeatable. He'd take down most of the "Meta" ap champs like Kat, Fizz, Sona no problem, and even the OP ad champs weren't too hard to beat either if you played right.

Sej is just flat garbage. Its like playing a blue balls simulator, bout to pop... nope they got away, try again. I haven't played her hardly at all since her rework, and she was my go to jg before that.

As I said I do like new WW, not a huge fan of new Xin Zhao though, and I haven't tried new eve or urgot yet, and I never played old Yorick.

Slythion1 votes

Eh, we all have our own opinions. At the very least I think the quality of champions that come out of reworks are drastically better, even if the type or style aren't favored.

For me its only if they keep the champs playstyle similar but update the kit. Like WW, hes basically the same playstyle, just much better. Sej's rework made her feel worse for the person playing her and more oppressive as the opponent. Galios changed his WHOLE playstyle.

Infernape1 votes

That's because Warwick's rework was a modernisation. All he needed was his core gameplay (tanky sustained damage dealer with suppression and a hunting ability) brought into LoL in 2017 alongside his visuals getting changed. Galio's was a full relaunch. It was basically as if Riot remade him from scratch. Galio's rework was akin to Sion's.

Say that to the mordakiser rework or the kog maw. Or Malzahar

Slythion2 votes

Mordekaiser is arguably better, Kog Maw was really only bad from a balance perspective, and Malzahar is...well...alright you got me there. He's not exactly much worse than his previous iteration though.

Other than malzahar, Morde and Kog were a pretty long time ago anyways right? I mentioned that they've been good recently to generally avoid the class update attempts

Arakadia2 votes

He should get one. I don't see why not.

I have 400k mastery on wukong, but I haven't played him in a while. Why would I ? Top lane he gets fucked in the ass by almost everyone. Even if you win vs. tanks, they just build tank, cc you in teamfights and you're useless. In the jungle he gets 1v1ed by a red buff and is open invitation for invades. You can play him mid lane, but that's just a cheese pick, and you get harassed by anyone just for trying to take cs. If you check his history, wukong wasn't TOUCHED since season 4. LOL we're going into season 8. He wasn't touched for literally 4 years.

Wukong Airlines3 votes

it's so frustrating ADCs get adjusted every year at least, just to catchup with the meta and become beasts again, even in login theme of season 8, Riot throwed 3 adcs and 2 tanks , jinx next patch adjusted. I bet you 10/10 jhin will be buffed next, then lucian.

Blue Moon Wolf4 votes

I would recommend trying him out mid. I've taken him there and have been doing pretty well. He hits his Power spike faster since mid levels up faster, he can get to bot lane to assist easier in mid lane and generally doesn't need to worry about a mid laner killing his turret while hes gone, the short lane frees up a Summoner Slot that normally would be taken up by Teleport and Mid lane Assassins that avoid top lane because of Champs like him are suddenly forced to face him. If it doesn't work out then hey, at least you gave it a shot.

Woodakoodashooda5 votes

His kit isn't outdated. It's just his passive that needs to be changed.

Hell, they even changed his lore with the introduction of Vasyans to the point his "stone skin" no longer makes sense outside the fact that Riot shoved 'Kong's race believes they come from stone and return to stone at death' into his lore like it was some bad excuse to keep his death animation the same.

Wu is a manic monkey. He does things fast, he lives fast, and the concept of patience is almost impossible for him to grasp.

He is impulsive and dives into the action headfirst with reckless abandon. Caution is not his style.

He lives to fight, to challenge worthy opponents, and to test his skill or lack thereof against them.

He is not a tank. He is NOT a tank. HE IS NOT A TANK!

And yet, because of his passive that's tacked onto his kit like a misshapen puzzle piece that's been crammed into it like some child hammered it in with crooked nails, people who've no idea what Wu is or does continue to demand that Wu builds tank.

Riot, look at what you've done for other champions whose mentality is "Become the best by besting others."

And then apply something along those lines to Wu.

Wu's kit also revolves around attack damage burst. He isn't an auto attacker. He's a caster. So, whatever it is that compliments that would be a good idea.

To that end, he should receive a passive that fits both his identity and his abilities.

Riot, if you are reading this then you may find something familiar in the above statement. The reasoning behind many of your changes. "something that fits his identity". Stop ignoring what dedicated Wu players have requested and throw us a bone already!

We don't want a buff, we just want an updated passive.

Arakadia7 votes

I think he needs to be less binary otherwise people will keep building him assassin when it's strong and he will be overbearing.

Woodakoodashooda1 votes

It's his AD ratios that make him an assassin.

People have built him assassin for years now because of it.

It's the only way he can hope to survive fights. Kill enemies faster than they can kill him. Kill them so fast, in fact, they can hardly blink before they hit the ground.

Arakadia4 votes

Yeah that's a problem.

kile1474 votes

He is obviously not a tank, I don't think that any of his kit suggests that he should be. The question is, what exactly is he? Is he an assassin? Diver? Skirmisher? Juggernaut (probably not). Should he be able to 100-0 with a single combo or should he take more time to kill and instead have tools to stay in the fight? There's still a lot of options/directions he could go and issues with his kit that need to be addressed.

Durzaka5 votes

He needs more than just a passive adjustment.

Wukong is supposed to be a durable fighter type champion. But when he is actually strong, he is played as a Diver/assassin where he just jumps and deletes one person and knock ups and damages the rest of the team.

As long as his kit is how it is, nothing is going to change.

Handy Sandy 4 votes

He feels terrible to play against, if he's ever strong he'll be completely busted.

Jinx Hunter4 votes

I rather they buff Vayne , before they buff the cancer Kong The Can't Catch Me Kid.

Wu is fine, he is already cancerous enough with lethality and stealthing in to ulty from bush to nearly instantly win a team fight with his potato friendly engage. His lane phase is one sides as hell and nearly on the levels of Pantheon when he is against anyone that is not a tank, but even then he gets a lot of armor shred and can still fight a tank if he wants too.

Of all the champs you could ask for a buff (Darius Diana Ahri Aatrox Irelia Mordekaiser Olaf Poppy Renekton Riven Volibear Zyra) You ask for buffs for one of the most problematic champs in the game.

Btw op don't ask for a buff, he ask riot to f*cking care about Wu

What if his Decoy continued whatever Wukong was doing?

Monkey boy is supposed to be a trickster. Why make his "trick" so obvious?

(Yes I know about pressing S to fake them out, but come on now we can do better than that can't we?)

Serika Zero1 votes

because you can just ctrl+s and make people think you used your decoy while the real you is just standing there. but doing that takes skills and mind games.... not just pressing W while doing something else which would be more easy and simple

Actually you don't need to press ctrl with S, just pressing S does the same thing. Unless ctrl makes the stop as sudden as using his decoy. just wanted to point that out there.

yes you are correct, it depends on the settings you got. mine were slightly altered. you are the one that's right, that should be default settings

At least they've said stuff about aatrox.

The sad part is, I remember Meddler making a thread about what we'd like to see happen with Aatrox. I was really stoked. That was like three years ago. I mean, sure they kinda messed with him a bit. More band aids than anything. Sigh. And I guess he's getting worked on now? Maybe? Idk. Who knows.

What were we talking about?
