"I would rather lose than obey a tyrant"

SorasMemories··115 votes·7,374 views

This last game, I noticed my teammates were all attacking the enemy tank because, of course, the enemy tank led the charge. I said in chat "guys, get the adc first". One of my teammates started the rant of "don't tell me what to do", bla bla bla, "I'll just sit top" bla bla bla. I said, "if we don't focus the adc, we will lose" and the reply was something along the lines of "I would rather lose than obey a tyrant".

What...? This person must have been 12 years old or something and have parents that don't ever make them do ANYTHING. Any adult who has had ONE job has been told what to do. Me suggesting obvious strategies to win is me being a tyrant? This isn't even about pride anymore; this is just plain stupidity.

We did lose; so, he really showed me. summoner 14

Typical shounen type of thing to say for a typical shounen show. Other lines include, but are not limited to:

  1. We can't sacrifice a few lives for many others. There must be a way to save ALL of us!

  2. I fight for my friends!

  3. I fight for what's right!

  4. I have to become stronger to fight for my friends!

  5. I have to become stronger to fight for what's right!

  6. I was...too weak...I have to become stronger!

  7. Help me become stronger!

  8. Onlooker: He's become stronger!

  9. I won become I fight for something important!

a) Like these friends!

b) Like the right thing to do!

  1. Explanation Guy: Protagonist, this is the X that will Y to help us Z.

Protagonist: The X...that will...Y...to help...us Z?

Explanation Guy: Now I gotta explain this fking shit in full. -_-

I mean.....You are wrong. You attack whatever target you are able to attack safely. "Focus ADC" is just such a scrubby thing to say

DrCyanide52 votes

In that case you would probably say something like "I couldn't, the tank was forcing me back", not "I would rather lose than obey a tyrant".

T RexHasTinyArms5 votes

Agreed, but it depends on the conversation. You don't have enough info to know for sure how stuff was phrased, but you're probably right.

BluePolarizer6 votes

that is if you are ADC and sustained damage mid only. If you are a jungler/top/assassin mid, you HAVE to nuke their priority targets.

Rockabananza8 votes

Depends...some champions have the JOB of going into the back line despite the riskiness if your team messes up or doesn't follow up. For example, Talon, Riven, and Irelia to name three. If your assassins are focusing the tanks in full 5v5 teamfights, there's a problem.

SorasMemories1 votes

So, everyone focusing the tank is wiser? The tank will absorb all the damage while the rest of the team turns our health bars to dust.

DrinkMoreWhiskey6 votes

It's called peeling your carrys sir derps a lot. It's rarely a good idea to just dive through their front line and beeline the Adc, unless he's really out of position.

rampaging poet2 votes

I'd rather be focusing the tank and taking damage from the tank than focusing the ADC and taking damage from the entire enemy team. If you're already close enough that the enemy ADC is shooting you then sure, shoot them back, but diving the ADC/fed assassin through everyone else will just get you killed for the sake of one auto.

theres a difference though between "throw everything to kill the adc no matter what" and "focus the adc if you can, and don't focus the tank if you can"

Sometimes you have to focus the tank, particularly your adc. The squishies can't just dive past the tank, they'll die. Tanks exist for a reason, and late-game adc's can shred them a bit easier. Without a tank on one side, that leaves those squishies heavily vulnerable without a decent amount of cc and peel.

Mages can barrage the backline, assassins can delete the adc and escape, and so on, but don't expect the adc to focus the other adc if it's not safe.

actually if you can kill the tanks, then the adc will not have anything to peel for them.

Rinky Dinky6 votes

If you do nothing but focus the enemy adc, you also lose.

Nothing is more hilarious than watching the enemy just run past me as a bruiser or peel tank whilst I cut them down along with my backline.

Yeah, except half the time it's the other way. LOL I'd prob be more likely to tell people to shut up if we were playing in person (like basketball or something), bc there's no mute button in person and when I say shut up in person they can't just run their mouth w/out backing it up.

Gavran2 votes

Yeah in person if they run their mouth I just put my hand on my gun and they all shut up and kiss my ass ugh I hate that I can't do that on league

Sad thing is it was probably really satisfying for that idiot. Lots of people don't want to win, they just wanna "take a brave stance" and feel justified in losing.

It's a very selfish attitude that pervades the game.

The "I don't care about you, I will do what I want and make up whatever BS I feel is necessary to justify it" attitude. It's toxic. It effects almost every game I play as I'm still only leveling and I feel doesn't go away until gold when you're fighting real players who can annihilate these kinds of failures.

Doesn't go away at gold. :|

What if the advice someone is giving you is stupid? Should you still obey it? There are a lot of cases where the "don't focus the tank" advice is stupid. Sometimes that is the only person you can attack, and you better be attacking someone during a team fight.

NaotoKanji3 votes

I don't mind following someone's advice in-game if they're being reasonable and polite. However, if they're rude, condescending, and obnoxious about it, chances are I'm going to be a little less inclined to pay attention to any of the tripe you're projectile vomiting onto my screen. There's a way to inspire to your team, and it doesn't involve being a bossy jerk.

Not saying OP was being a bossy jerk. You don't come across that way, but perhaps the person on your team had a different perception of your lead.

Any adult who had had ONE job would know that they follow orders cause they are getting paid too.

If you'd gotten the ADC first, Sion and Kat would have torn through your backline.

If only the Support LeeSin could have gone in and gotten MF out from behind their backline.

I agree with both sides, in a manner of speaking.

It sounds to me like this was the first time OP had asked them to focus the ADC and the person flipped out. This is at Best, the most unreasonable player ever.

However, While not siding with said example player, if someone on my team is constantly complaining about what I'm doing (ESPECIALLY If I'm doing well despite that) Then no, I'd rather lose than let some whiny snob get the satisfaction of winning. I once had a Jinx complain about me all match after I ganked her lane and got a Triple Kill.

Panwar2 votes

I don't know what was happening in your game. But I get tired of the "Stop focusing the tank" mantra. Sometimes depending on the team comps, and engage situations, that is exactly what you have to do.

If you are fighting Cait on a team with Alistar, Maoki, and Naut, you could spend all fight trying to get to the adc and find your team in shambles.

DEmperor952 votes

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's a young (12 year old) kid that doesn't know how interaction with people online work. Don't bother.

Wullf2 votes

"Just focus ADC" is not really an effective tactics. It is more complicated than that.

Generally you are trying to kill their damage dealers. But that does not mean that all should them. There are situations where no one from your team can focus any enemy damage dealer and in this situation you have no choice than retreat.

When enemy front line does their job your ADC mostly has no other choice than attacking these frontline tanks as doing otherwise would get him/her killed.

Whole teamfight mechanics is based on killing problematic target without dying yourself. Teamfights are like shifting sands.
