Why do LOL players want to fight so bad?

SorasMemories··93 votes·8,211 views

Take a look at my last game. I played Miss Fortune and my score was 11/0/4. I rocked that game; however, for whatever reason, my support complained at me the entire game. Every team fight was followed with: "MF I hate you. You just stand there and do nothing. You're useless." Um... I was attacking. How am I useless...? This teammate also used all chat to express what garbage I was. I think the term "ball sucker" was used too.

I never retaliated or insulted or even cursed at this teammate. Not once. I said, "I think I'm doing well... But if harassing me makes you feel better? Go for it." This was followed with "Um. I'm sick of dying because you won't attack." But... I was attacking. I used everything. Hell, I obviously got kills.

None of my teammates expressed their distaste for my support's words. No one stood up for me. I'm an adult and I don't need anyone to help me when I'm getting bullied; HOWEVER, the fact that no one said anything while I was getting harassed is pretty sad. Actually, the fact that this person was harassing me IN THE FIRST PLACE is absolutely atrocious.

Call me wrong, but I make an effort to stand up for people getting harassed in league, even if they were playing crappy. There is no excuse for calling people garbage, especially in a GAME!

Why...? Just why? Tell me... Why do LOL players want to fight so much? Why can't we just have fun?

This is why people leave this game. Because of nonsense like this.

Generally, the player who flames the most is the worst player on the team. I don't even mean because they are flaming instead of playing (which is certainly true), but they are usually the one playing the worst even before they start flaming.

They are flaming because they don't want to admit their own mistakes and so they have to try to push the blame on someone else.

really thou? ill flame my team when im like 6/0/5 and their a combined 5/18 im not flaming because i messed up im flaming because they just made my job so much harder with there non stop feed

BetaDude4024 votes

So yelling and screaming about how horrible they are is somehow supposed to make them better?

JAGMAGZ1 votes

its pretty much gg anyways so why not tell them they suck most of the time they will try and blame me anyways for us losing like k kids some how me picking up 8 kills and having zero deaths makes me the problem not the fact you are all feeding

Please stay as far away from any games I ever play.

im in all the games i am simply an idea an idea that if your a noob someone will let you know D:< and breath fire upon you

Consider giving them constructive criticism instead of mindlessly abusing them. If they're a "noob" in your mind, give them tips and tricks to improve or just keep your mouth shut.

Your opinion REALLY (and I can't stretch this enough) isn't that important. If you thought I was a noob, would I care? Not really. I'd just think you were an egotistical 12 year old on LoL who believes that he deserves challenger. "mi teammates r holding mi back am in elo hull"

You're the same kinda guy that smurfs in lv5 games and flames the new players for not knowing everything about the game. I bet you think you're real good when you outplay a item 3085 Teemo, but sadly you're just average. And just as you learned from other players, you can teach other players. As strange at it sounds. Yes, there is something you can do besides flaming them!

Overall, just chillout and don't tilt/flame. You lose more games when you do so. And at the end of the day, it's just League. Nothing you can't get back with some more games.

EDIT: You're level 20.. Why even flame in normals? You're not losing or gaining LP.. LOL

this is my smurf account that im leveling up also if i lose to a hurricane teemo i feel bad XD i expect to smash a kid also these kids aren't teachable most are like stfu noob you dont know what your talking about.......

Not Katarina1 votes

Got something against Hurricane Teemo?

And if they're being ignorant, just mute them. Don't drop to their level.

Imma just say that unfortunately i try to give some constructive feed back to people I have played with and then i get flamed. Like Ill say "hey since you are having trouble fighting (insert champ here) why not stay back and farm under tower and then we can set up a gank easier instead of the lane always being pushed." then they get mad cause you "called them out" and start flaming. People these days dont want advice cause they think they can do no wrong and its terribly frustrating.

Not Katarina1 votes

Yeah, that really stinks! The best you can do at that point is mute and try not to tilt. Some people take it as an attack, but not everyone!

NOT yelling at them isn't going to make them better either.

BetaDude402 votes

There's a difference between "Okay, just stay back, ward your lane, and try to play safe. don't force a fight if you don't have to" and "OMG U FUCKING RETARD STOP FUCKING FEEDING"

I hope you choose the first option

TheScholarlyDude2 votes

Probably just makes me feel better.

Had a team go 2-39 without me. .. I was 4/5. Yeah I flamed.. soon as someone said "we're all doing bad".... I'm like I'm doing bad; you guys are potatoes.

imonly4noobcakes2 votes

I've been called noob, scrub and garbage by THE shittiest players. True story bro.

Chaotic Reks6 votes

I was gonna say they are too scared to fight irl, but this works too.

Verxint4 votes

Yeah, the odds are nobody on your team defended you because they all saw you were being helpful and didn't want to set the crybaby off.

Those people are just looking for attention because it somehow validates them. They really get kerfuzzled if they are just ignored by 4 people.

WTFMatee1 votes

People that do this then report you after the game for saying something like "dude stop flaming" and call you toxic. So frustrating and simply just take it otherwise you really wil be banned for saying anything in return

imonly4noobcakes1 votes

RIGHT ON THE HEAD that nail was hit...dear sir :D

EndlessSorcerer24 votes

It's quite possible that your teammates just muted them when they started complaining. It's a common response to mute the rager or whiner so they don't bother you and they probably wouldn't think to defend you if they were no longer seeing them in chat.

Some people just have difficulties accepting blame or acknowledging their faults. It's sadly common on-line, but there isn't much you can do for people like that.

IWipeForward7 votes

Preach it ^^ MUTE TROLLS.

Le Dauphin7 votes

I wouldn't ever respond to an idiot like that; they'll just type more and play even worse. Just mute them, and if you feel it was bad enough remember to report after the game.

As much as sticking up for a teammate sounds like the right thing to do, it's not going to make them shut up, and might actually make things worse. It's the internet, the place for the dumbest and meanest to act without repercussions and try to convince themselves they're not the most worthless people in existence. Say something positive to the targeted player when you have a chance though (well, to everyone really).

It's a generational thing...welcome to playing with teens and people in their early 20s.

Riot have said that age has very little bearing on toxicity levels (though younger players are slightly more likely to report toxic behaviour):

http://ask.fm/RiotLyte/answer/130574642626

AtheosisX2 votes

Riot is full of it. With age there is a clear upwards trend in maturity, so while on an individual level it may not always be true younger players absolutely are more likely to act immature. Flaming and toxicity is the definition of immaturity really. You should stop believing everything Riot says.

JAGMAGZ3 votes

think about it thou how mature is a guy in his 30-40 who spends 10+ hours a day on this game?

AtheosisX2 votes

Who said anything about 10+ hours a day? Also when is this notion that video games are just for kids going to be purged from our culture? It's just silly. Men in their 30s grew up with video games and tend to see them as just another form of entertainment like TV or movies, even after they are married and have kids. And let's be clear, even relatively immature 30+ year olds are generally far more mature than 14 year olds. As an older gamer myself I'm never not having to mute players who are obviously pubescent boys as they crack endless homophobic and scatological jokes, because when I don't it pretty much always devolves into flaming if the game goes bad. I was a teenager myself at one time. I know what being a teenage boy is like. I was more likely to verbally abuse someone at that age than I am now, and I'm certain that had I been playing online games back then rather than playing with friends in person on my playstation I would've been a little shit then too. So yep, Riot is full of it on this one. They just don't want any age shaming in their playerbase (which I get).

JAGMAGZ2 votes

i doubt it the adults who ive played with are far worse ragers then the teens/early 20s ive played with they seem to think being older makes them automatically smarter when it comes to the game or they like to bring up real life shit about how there life is so great therefore it dose not matter that they suck or there better then the kids in all ways shape and forms for real thou ive played allot of games with people from 12-40 ish the adults are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy worse about rage then the kids now on the low end like 13 year olds are pretty toxic because they think its "cool" but they grow out of that in the late teens then something happens when they get into their mid 20s and they become super toxic again XD

AtheosisX1 votes

This is painful to try to read.

JediSenpaiNP2 votes

Allow me to translate, for simplicity, as that is quite tough for me to read as well. Adults think they know everything because they are older.

I personally believe it isn't fully contributed to age, but, as a teenager myself, i wouldn't be surprised if my age were a high percentage of toxic players.

AtheosisX2 votes

Yeah, I mean on an individual basis there are certainly teenagers who act more mature than some adults, but as a whole it runs contrary to everything I've experienced in life when they say a 14 year old and a 34 year old are equally likely to be toxic jerks. They can talk about studies that they will never show us all they like, but that statement just rings completely false. Anyone who has played online with voice on a console knows that the most annoying and insulting players pretty much always have kid voices or the voices of boys who are not fully finished with puberty (CoD anyone?). If LoL had built-in voice comms I guarantee you it would be the same. But since it doesn't, they can hide behind their mysterious studies and say age doesn't matter. And again I get why they say that. They don't want age shaming. That doesn't make it true though.

RookPusher4 votes

They also rage if you say something like "please stop chasing in the woods, it's usually a bait and always gets you killed"

"stfu ROok, you never groupp"

Had a bot game where we were losing badly to bots because mid and top fed hard. what was strange was that there were almost always 2 people mid and one of them was an Ash. i was duo queue with my sis at the time and we were doing fine...until the most fed bot came to our lane and KO'd both of us...it was then that we realized there was a problem with our comp. and it became obvious that 3 of them were friends..

But the Ash complained the most and eventually i said "Hey Ash try to play more safe, try to stay away from there turret when they have more minions than you" or something close to that but, i saw that most of her deaths came from chasing the enemy under turret..THE ENEMY TURRET...

Her response?

Ashe "STFU noob"

Sona "I was just trying to help you don't have to be rude"

Ashe "Shut up"

Sona "......"

10mins later

Sona "Careful up there Brand is on his way to your lane. You guys may want to consider getting some Magic Resist"

Ashe "Shut Up Noob"

All 3 of them die to the Brand Bot

Her and her friends continued insulting us despite the fact that me and my sis MADE an effort to stay away from them and their lanes because "fk them, they don't need help". We didn't say a WORD to them the entire game after that rude response.

In the end i was so fed up that i decided to just afk somewhere in a bush at bot lane, only leaving to assist my sis who was Ezreal quietly taking towers to end this annoying game.

They ran by my bush being chased and are about to die? meh they don't need help, i'm a noob after all..Man look at all this mana i don't have to use. Must be nice not needing help from noobs and all huh Ash?.

(Yes i was very scornful that game...very)

And all the while the Ash and her 2 friends continued feeding the bots and insulting us in another language (Spanish i believe, i know only a bit because "murica" school system).

And it was VERY VERY obvious that this was the first day for them playing LOL.

... a BOT game???

Unfortunately Yes it was a bot game. I tend to play them more often to take a break from PVP games. Most people a more chill in Co op, compared to PVP..

You just have to accept the fact that this game is full of idiots. If you go 11/0/4 as an ADC, you rocked the block. It literally doesn't matter what the enemy team did at all.

Anonymity is a powerful tool that the internet has armed its communities with. People live their days in the outside world by their normal names, and they stress over things both significant and not so. But on the web, they can live by any name other than their own, and they can live by any code that they want.

Stress gives people the motivation for flaming and bullying: stress over how their day went outside the game, stress over how poorly they are actually performing in the game. Anonymity over the web gives people the tools to bully and flame others without retaliation or repercussion.

Sadly, I do not know of any way to deal with these individuals. But remember, even if they are saying nasty things, none of what they say will matter in ~30-45 minutes since after the game, each of you will go your separate ways. And if they become absolutely unbearable, remember the most powerful tool that Riot offers you to help ignore them: the Mute Button.

Keep shining the light of hope and reason, fellow summoner

I don't particularly agree with the fact you SHOULDN'T flame(even though in most cases it's bad to) but I do agree that even if you have to get aggressive to get your point across you should flame people to get them to understand.

Example:

You have a Garen on your team and you're vs all ad champs. Instead of building armor be starts stacking magic resist. If you politely tell him to build armor and he ignores you then you start getting a tad aggressive to show him you weren't only fooling. Then he continues to ignore you and call you names that's when you need to get aggressive and tell him what he's doing wrong.

(Yes I Know a bad example since nobody is that stupid but yea)

If someone is doing bad through obvious mistakes I don't think you should reward them and make them think it's ok to make those mistakes that way they'll just keep making them and not try to improve but rather punish them (no matter how light or heavy it is) to be sure they don't make it again.

For those who don't know this is the common method the military uses to train better soldiers.

1 second late for formation? Punished. Now you have to be there 15 seconds early (after push-ups ofc) Still 1 second late? Punished. Now you get there 30 seconds early.

Same goes for league. You don't have to be a total assbag and tell someone to kill themselves but you don't need to be so passive that you allow someone to make obvious mistakes and keep making them. They won't improve

This is why I like playing support more. If your adc is a douche bag you can just leave bot lane forever, but if you are an adc you don't get that option.
