The first step is to ask why his win rate went up. He didn't get a buff, and no recent item changes benefited him, so why did his win rate go up?

The meta shifted, and the champions that define the current meta just so happen to be champions Garen does well against. He is the same as he was when he last had a 49% win rate, the only difference now is people are not playing as much kite, and are instead playing a lot more damage.

Garen wasn't overpowered when he had a 49% win rate, and he has had no changes that benefit him either directly or indirectly since then, so I don't see how he could possibly be overpowered now.

Mind blown (not sarcasm)

I didn’t think about how a meta shift could boost up a champ without even directly buffing the champ. I never have issues with garen but I also play darius into him a lot.

It's something a lot of people forget about. It's always a shame to see a meta shift lead into people asking for nerfs for a champion that has realistically not changed.

Ideally Garen's increase in pick rate should lead to an increased pick rate of his counters. His counters are seeing a slight win rate boost in that matchup, with all the inexperienced Garen players entering the scene, but their pick rates are still low. If this doesn't change Riot may eventually feel like no one is adapting, and might actually hit Garen with some changes, even though everyone who regularly plays counters to Garen can handle him just fine.

I don't blame Rexxiee for jumping to this conclusion though, it's a natural position to take when a champion suddenly feels stronger. Rexxiee does play champions that Garen does very well against.

i think its more than that. its also a lot of skilled players picking him up.

think about it. garen gets a new skin. his pickrate skyrockets to 15% because of it (already down to 7% and quickly falling), and his winrate increases by 3% in the same patch. what are all the high ranked players picking when theyre picking garen on their mains and their smurphs? theyre not going to play their usual picks.

i think smurphing is a massive factor here. his winrate in plat is drastically higher than in diamond.

garen also counters the new aatrox atm who is a popular pick despite his garbage kit.

if riot just chills for a few patches, its likely that his winrate will fall off again when the hype from the event dies down.

That's also very fair. There's no mechanical barrier for entry when it comes to playing Garen, so skilled players can take their knowledge of macro play and immediately start doing well with him.

As long as we gut birdie Quinn. Sitting at an even higher WR than him thanks to "ranged privileges"

by the way

Garen 8.6% pickrate (still inflated due to his skin), 51.6% winrate for garen right now. not enough of a reason for nerfs.

Quinn doesn't need buffs

Quinn is trash right now and is badly in need of buffs to be made viable.

She is hard countered by Nasus, Yorick, Fiora, Riven, Camille, Irelia, Gnar, Rumble, Maokai, Yasuo, etc.

Quinn is a very mechanically intensive champion and has a high skill ceiling and floor.

shes literally in the top 5 best top lane picks right now. i dont know what youre smoking.

part of it is probably because she hard counters the popular juggers at the moment. mundo, garen, darius aatrox, singed are among the most popular top lane picks at the moment, and quinn counters all of them.

she doesnt need buffs.

The most frustrating thing about him is his "late game fall off" is still like 51% winrate, well above other top laners' best winrates.

they literally gutted his early game so he doesnt fall off anymore. the juggernaut rework was supposed to make garen a scaling champion. he used to be a powerful lane bully.

among his highest winrate runes are also gathering storm and overgrowth. hes especially not supposed to fall off with those.

if you want to, we can go back to the 2.5 second silence, and the ability rank scaling spin, instead of the level scaling one, if you feel like his lane phase is too strong, lol.
