I feel like Trinimmortal hit it on the head what a lot of people are complaining about lately.

"Way back in season 1, when I first fell in love with the game, it was because of the team fights. The rotations and strategy and all that shit was also fun, but it was fun because it felt like it always built towards a team fight. That's the shit I fell in love with, and that's the shit I want from League.

But I feel like as time passed and the game has evolved, it's not really about that anymore. I can't even say it's a bad thing, but the game doesn't seem to really build towards fights anymore. League's always been an objective based game, but there was always a focus on FIGHTING over the objectives, you know? Nowadays, it's more about outrotating the enemy team and playing 3d chess. I feel like I'm no longer playing a champion, I'm playing a chess piece.

Again, not really a bad thing per se, but it's just... not what I play the game for. At all. I feel like the focus is much more on playing safe. There's so many shields and peel in the game that playing the melee champs that I enjoy (aka NOT tanks) just feels like a shitty game of cat and mouse. Obviously, not all games are like this, but I feel like it's definitely been the majority of games. In order to even have a chance at being useful with the champs I play, I'd have to play regularly to keep up the mechanical skill, which I just don't have the motivation to do because there's just other shit I'd rather play.

And anytime I think, "I'm in the mood for League", I end up hesitating cuz I'm like, "but what if the enemy team just runs away for 40 minutes?" I'd rather play literally anything else at that point.

But when I think about it, I know aggressive play isn't completely dead. I know I can play champs that fight... I just have to play champs like Draven or something. I had A TON of fun playing Draven, and I wouldn't mind playing him occasionally... but I don't want to have to play a ranged champion to have a chance at playing aggressively. When I play Yasuo or any other squishy melee in lane, the opponent tends to just play super safe. And I can't blame them obviously. That's what you're supposed to do. But then it's just boring. Then mid game rolls around and it's still boring cuz there's a good chance that my team would prefer to play safe. Then the game is over and I feel like I wasted 40 minutes of my life cuz nothing really happened. This obviously isn't always the case, but idk man. I just feel like the chances of exactly this happening are much higher nowadays.

I guess I just miss when there was more of a focus on actually fighting. Back when I could be good at the game AND reliably have action packed matches. Strategy and rotations are cool and all, but I want to fucking fight. Not get kited. Not split push. Not siege. Not freeze lanes. Not get camped. Not rotate all game. I want to fight. Yeah, I could play ARAM. I could play Battlerite. But don't give the same satisfaction as a good game of league. Not even close.

BUT I FEEL LIKE THIS IS ALL IN MY HEAD. Am I crazy? Am I just focusing on the negatives? Have I just forgotten how to properly play aggressively, or has the game actually gotten more passive over time? I don't even know anymore man. All I know if that recently, most of my games haven't been all that fun. Some of them are a ton of fun, but most of them are just a snooze fest. idk. Maybe I'm just crazy. I hope I am.

Either way, I'm sure I'll play it again eventually. Especially since I'm slowly craving it more and more. And ESPECIALLY because that Ashe emote is top-tier smug and I fucking need to flash that on someone. Same with the Yasuo and Dabbing Penguin emotes. But mostly the smug Ashe."

IDK just saw it and thought "wow this is kind of gameplay in a nutshell"

I think part of the issue is that almost everyone has some form of escape or peel.

It used to be that... 8 out of the 40 original champs had a free dash with no strings attached? I can't remember. There were ward hops and stuff, but it was still under 30% I think.

Now, everyone has a free dash PLUS a defensive ability PLUS flash. It's hard to deal with all that. Also, everyone has free wards, so it's basically impossible to sneak up on anyone.

They've taken out all of the "fun" and "woops didn't see that coming" aspects in favor of balanced competition.... Which is cool, but is kind of not fun.
