See alot of people complaining about Unranked players in their ranked games

OyddAWqJ5r··41 votes·4,890 views

Unranked is not the bucket category used to define all unskilled players. Unranked means just that, unranked. The system has a good idea of their skill level but it hasn't been properly evaluated in serious ranked matches. This means that an unranked player can potentially be any tier. They could be a Bronze scrub who has a normal mmr that reflects Gold tier play or a Diamond level player who plays for fun with friends of lower skill in normals and has a Silver mmr.

The point is, stop acting like unranked players are just trash players. They aren't any worse than you, they just aren't classified in a tier yet.

i got 2 unranked players on my team on my smurf (it's silver 1 with g2MMR) and the only games they did have in their match history were 5 bots games 29 days ago.

Guess which team won?

OyddAWqJ5r15 votes

The 5 bots? lol

Maybe unranked players should be deported back to where they came from, blind normals and ARAMs.

It's time we make ranked games great again.

OyddAWqJ5r7 votes

We should build a wall in the client so that only vigorously vetted ranked players may enter ranked.

We should build a wall in the client so that only vigorously vetted ranked players may enter ranked.

Qualifications include, but are not limited to:

Never having played a game of bots, ARAM, an alternate gamemode, 3v3, or dominion.

Averaging 2 reports per game with a minimum 4.0 kda.

Liking and following Tyler1 on all his social media accounts.

(And have the unranked players pay for it)

OHminus10 votes

??? By that logic, no new players would enter ranked.

Everyone was unranked at some point.

Correction: unranked players can be bronze to plat. They can be good enough to be diamond or higher, but they can't get placed there.

OyddAWqJ5r6 votes

Correct, though never stated otherwise in OP.

Snowplosion3 votes

I just read Diamond level as in TIER level. My bad.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

I still hate unranked players in diamond. Many of them didn't even remotely catch up on meta which gets more and more important the higher you go losing the game simply by being unexperienced in the current gameplay. Or you get ex high masters starting at mid dia mmr stomping through the game which isn't fun either.

Shablagoo4 votes

Well not if I am in my promos, it really ruins game sometimes

OyddAWqJ5r5 votes

What does? Having a player who could possibly perform far beyond your team's average skill level?

You really just can't judge an unranked player by their unranked status. Even if they do poorly, everyone does poorly some games. Top level players have terrible games where they borderline are inting. It happens.

Aimléss6 votes

Idc, that's making your series game be decided by RNG more than it already is. Idc, if they could possibly be smurfing, it makes sense to not want a non-proven player in your one of your most important games.

Nope. You are either INTENTIONALLY giving the enemy team kills, or you're just playing badly. There isn't really a middle ground.

"Inting" is NOT a synonym for feeding. Spread the word.

OyddAWqJ5r3 votes

Inting is the denotation that someone is intentionally feeding but when used in this context it reads as "one who is performing so poorly it could be misconstrued that they are inting" or "one who is performing so poorly their score is on par with that of someone who would be inting".

Due to the nature of those definitions, intentionally feeding and feeding are therefore synonymous in that they mean similar yet different things. An example of another synonymous coupling is the words "hobby" and "specialty". While both denote something you specialize or take pleasure in, they have clear and distinct use cases while also harboring unclear and non-distinctive use cases.

Not that I'm advocating the use of the word to banter others with, but rather defending against your assault on the definition of synonymous in the English language lol.

And I do apologize if my use of the word "inting" did offend you.

Buckeye20022 votes

yes you can. i could win the lottery, but it dosnt mean im expecting to. they could be good, but 90% of the time, they are bronze 5 noobs who screw your games by feeding and having no clue

EarthyMadness4 votes

On my ranked provisionals, I consistently got(/get? since I still have 5 to go) in S2-G5 tier.

Oh the flaming I've received, it's not my fault I got placed there. I suck and I know it.

nm10104 votes

I have never met an unranked player who didn't overvalue their skill level due to who they played against in normals. And they normally like to hide behind that veil of "I'm unranked, but I play against golds and the occasional plat so I'm like high gold". No you aren't, you don't get to play against a couple mid elo players and act like you know anything about competitive play.

That is like someone going to a sport camp and scrimming against pro players for a week then saying they are basically a college level player since they played against pros, it is actually a ridiculous comparison.

chipndip14 votes

Exactly this. I play with my Silver friends quite often. One says he plays Janna like a Plat level player when he's never climbed higher than low Gold, the other says he doesn't play ranked "but he's still improving" when he's constantly feeding and STILL doesn't know how to trade in lane. People that don't ranked just don't get it. It's elitist as hell and there's no nice way to put it, but them's the breaks. Not my problem though since I always play ranked in any game that has it.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Shockingly a lot of players think so. My ex best friend has never been higher than gold 4 or something. Me getting diamond last season was "luck" and "playing a ton". Me getting D4 in 50 games with 70% winrate from plat 5 this start of season didn't convince him of my skill nor peaking at D2 the last couple weeks but because last season in team ranked we played against a bunch of full diamond teams and winning somehow made him believe he is diamond level yet sitting in b1 currently not realising a team play is entirely different from soloQ.

Another one was like "blabla if i played 1k games a season as well i would be diamond too, it's all about the grind". I look up his profile he has nearly 2k normal games this season but "he doesn't have much time for ranked" when he literally plays twice as much as i do and not realising it only took me 50 games to get to my old elo.

chipndip11 votes

I mean, it honestly sucks, but the best we can do is to try not to punch down and be good folk as long as we can. Still, though, doesn't change the fact that the best way to gain real improvement in LoL is through ranked play. Not sure why people deny that.

Bârd3 votes

Good or no, unranked players are generally pretty inexperienced.

Those who play the game for fun in normals can be good, but they are unlikely to plug in hours on the level of people who play the game for the competition.

OyddAWqJ5r4 votes

You could also view it the opposite way. Players who play to have fun with friends in normals probably plug in alot more hours of play than people who only play ranked for the competition.

I definitely did when I was only playing norms.

Starboyˇ3 votes

Well it just doesn't make sense if an unranked garen with no runes or masteries is in my gold promos

OyddAWqJ5r2 votes

Tbh that's Riot's fault for making a tool that affects in game performance that's gated by IP. That'll be done away with soon.

I'm aware bad unrankeds exist, but so do good ones.

LankPants2 votes

If you really don't want unranked players in your game you can simply improve past the point where unranked players can be placed with you, or tank yourself down to B5, either should make sure that there aren't unrankeds in your game.

Hyperiön2 votes

The issue isn't that they are unranked.

The issue is that they are unranked, never played ranked before, and showing up in high silver/low gold games.

Every account should have to start in bronze, and work their way up.

mental defisency1 votes

The reason that doesn't work is smurfs; they can be an unfair advantage to whichever team they're on, and completely unbalance the game. At least with the unranked placements we have, they can start at gold, where people at least have a bit more knowledge.

uh ill take a Smurf in bronze over a noob in my s1 promos. its not like the smurfs will stay in bronze for long

Well they could be of any skill level true. Neverthless I have yet to see an unranked player in ranked that doesn't throw the game for their team. They have lost (and won when on the other side) many many games for me.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 95% of Unranked players are bronze 5 level, they feed, they don't know how to position and is generally an auto loss, then riot wonders why people get frustrated and toxic.

if someone has never played ranked in their life they aren't above gold skill level that's pretty much it.

That's not even true. You can get the exact same amount of skill from normal matches as from ranked ones.

This is not true.

Not true at all.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

How is that not true?

Skill in League is 70% knowledge, 28% execution/reflexes, and 2% luck. You can get knowledge from almost anywhere except the boards (who likely have a collective IQ of 18), and reflexes are able to be trained in any mode. And luck is obviously not something you can "gain".

While there is likely an effective cap (you're going to run out of challenging opponents in norms eventually), it's way higher than anyone here will deal with. No matter how high up you go, someone's going to still play normal matches once in a while.

You said it yourself in the last paragraph. You only learn so much playing against people your level. The higher tier you go, people will barely play normals. Its too different of an environment to actually learn from.

Sure in lower tiers, you can learn a lot, especially if you just started. But in ranked, you will face people higher tier than you, learn and take criticism from them. You learn a different aspect of the game entirely.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Normals has its own MMR/ELO. It follows the same rules as ranked's, so as you play normal matches, you'll be moved up higher, and will face opponents with higher MMR. The only time you'll start to run out of people above you in it is around Diamond level.

And you can still learn knowledge from other sources than play.

chipndip12 votes

So do you think that you'd be able to do "just fine" in a few high elo games?

Do you think ANYONE that "only played norms" would do well in a set of high elo games? Like mid/high Diamond tier games?

The point is that, objectively speaking, you could make the claim that it's possible to learn anything in norms that you could from ranked. The point is ALSO that, when faced with reality...you simply won't. Match-making is different in norms. The mentality around norms is different, too. It's the same map, but there's so many key differences that it's simply NOT the same experience. No amount of arguing changes that.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

It's feasible. And, depending on the role, matchups, and situations, and given a crash-course on how things shift from bottom to top tier, I could theoretically hold my own, and at least not feed my ass off. I most definitely wouldn't be carrying, but I could at least not do too horribly.

Then again, I have around 1.5k-2k games total. And that's probably a stretch, so I don't have the experience. I'm not talking about some relatively casual player like me. I'm talking about someone who does play a lot of games, and has been.

chipndip12 votes

Doesn't matter. I played THOUSANDS of games before I even got myself to a point where I could be considered a Diamond level player. Just going through the shit of learning the game, discovering a real main champ, and actually improving...it's a lot, and the norms environment does not fuel that drive. Period.

You don't have an idea of how higher elo games are actually like. The mentality behind it. People aren't playing goofy shit. People are more likely to go for optimal punishes for mistakes while mitigating chances for slip ups, both in lane and during team fights. Normal games don't consistently provide that type of environment to practice and learn in.

Like, I'm not trying to be rude, but look at you: You're Bronze 2, significantly under the bar of "average level player" (79th percentile on the ladder), claiming you could keep up in Diamond level games, about the top ONE PERCENT of the ladder. Really think this claim through. It's completely ignorant. The first step to improving is understanding you need improving. Normal games will not get you there in the long run. You could improve, given you're bronze, but you aren't gonna be some super-skilled high Plat player through just spamming norms.

Buckeye20021 votes

normals are.not the same. you experiment with builds, learn new champs,ect.. its not closed to ranked. ive shit on diamonds in normals , but I've never been oit of silver,

Sure you can learn things outside of play.

But where do you go to practice them?

Normals will only get you so far. Normals, if I do play it its because ranked it down, I see all of the same. People trying champs out, not knowing how to play, to learn the game. to learn a new role. Which is what it is there for.

Once you have a solid foundation and can play a champ or two in each role, and understand the mechanics of the game. Normals isn't the place for people who want to actually get better at the game. Normals is for people who just want to have fun, not worry about the struggles of ranked, and just play casually with friends.

Most people don't even take normals serious enough to try to win.

nice table1 votes

no this isn't even remotely true, most of high ranked players play on the level of golds in normals simply because there's no reason to tryhard there and high gold level is enough to stomp in norms.
