Every single champion in order of skillcap

Upvote and comment for visibility if you find this useful. I define "skillcap" as the difference between the win ratios of the least experienced players V.S. the most experienced players. Statistics pulled from Champion.gg and analyzed for most played role only. Some statistics ended up negative (1-5 games played had a higher win ratio than 125+ games played). For those, I put 0. All numbers are in context of percentages.

** Champion ---------- Skillcap ------- Highest Win Ratio Urgot ------------ 44 ------------ 79 Illaoi ------------ 35 ------------ 77 Yorick ------------ 30 ------------ 70 Akali ------------ 27 ------------ 65 Maokai ------------ 27 ------------ 70 Alistar ------------ 24 ------------ 60 Aatrox ------------ 23 ------------ 69 Karma ------------ 21 ------------ 64 Karthus ------------ 20 ------------ 67 Kindred ------------ 20 ------------ 65 Cho'Gath ------------ 18 ------------ 59 Zyra ------------ 18 ------------ 58 Kennen ------------ 17 ------------ 66 Ryze ------------ 17 ------------ 56 Wukong ------------ 17 ------------ 57 Elise ------------ 16 ------------ 59 Jayce ------------ 16 ------------ 59 Rumble ------------ 16 ------------ 56 Singed ------------ 16 ------------ 60 Poppy ------------ 15 ------------ 56 Sion ------------ 15 ------------ 64 Talon ------------ 15 ------------ 59 Bard ------------ 14 ------------ 54 Cassiopeia ------------ 14 ------------ 56 Kalista ------------ 14 ------------ 61 Leblanc ------------ 14 ------------ 54 Mordekaiser ------------ 14 ------------ 55 Rek'Sai ------------ 14 ------------ 57 Syndra ------------ 14 ------------ 52 Gnar ------------ 13 ------------ 56 Nunu ------------ 13 ------------ 61 Rengar ------------ 13 ------------ 59 Tahm Kench ------------ 13 ------------ 62 Twitch ------------ 13 ------------ 60 Azir ------------ 12 ------------ 50 Ekko ------------ 12 ------------ 55 Fiora ------------ 12 ------------ 60 Kassadin ------------ 12 ------------ 56 Katarina ------------ 12 ------------ 52 Lissandra ------------ 12 ------------ 55 Quinn ------------ 12 ------------ 63 Shyvanna ------------ 12 ------------ 57 Swain ------------ 12 ------------ 58 Viktor ------------ 12 ------------ 57 Xerath ------------ 12 ------------ 55 Annie ------------ 11 ------------ 56 Darius ------------ 11 ------------ 58 Fiddlesticks ------------ 11 ------------ 52 Kayle ------------ 11 ------------ 61 Orianna ------------ 11 ------------ 52 Pantheon ------------ 11 ------------ 56 Sejuan ------------ 11 ------------ 58 Vi ------------ 11 ------------ 56 Zed ------------ 11 ------------ 53 Ziggs ------------ 11 ------------ 53 Fizz ------------ 10 ------------ 58 Gangplank ------------ 10 ------------ 56 Garen ------------ 10 ------------ 59 Malzahar ------------ 10 ------------ 60 Master Yi ------------ 10 ------------ 58 Riven ------------ 10 ------------ 49 Vel'Koz ------------ 10 ------------ 57 Yasuo ------------ 10 ------------ 50 Zilean ------------ 10 ------------ 61 Amumu ------------ 9 ------------ 59 Anivia ------------ 9 ------------ 59 Irelia ------------ 9 ------------ 56 Lee Sin ------------ 9 ------------ 51 Nasus ------------ 9 ------------ 58 Nidalee ------------ 9 ------------ 48 Trundle ------------ 9 ------------ 61 Vladimir ------------ 9 ------------ 53 Volbear ------------ 9 ------------ 60 Xin Zhao ------------ 9 ------------ 53 Braum ------------ 8 ------------ 55 Draven ------------ 8 ------------ 53 Nocturne ------------ 8 ------------ 58 Sivr ------------ 8 ------------ 53 Udyr ------------ 8 ------------ 57 Varus ------------ 8 ------------ 58 Diana ------------ 7 ------------ 55 Mundo ------------ 7 ------------ 58 Galio ------------ 7 ------------ 52 Jax ------------ 7 ------------ 55 Leona ------------ 7 ------------ 54 Miss Fortune ------------ 7 ------------ 59 Tryndamere ------------ 7 ------------ 56 Viegar ------------ 7 ------------ 52 Zac ------------ 7 ------------ 55 Brand ------------ 6 ------------ 61 Heimerdinger ------------ 6 ------------ 53 Nautilus ------------ 6 ------------ 55 Shen ------------ 6 ------------ 58 Taric ------------ 6 ------------ 58 Hecarim ------------ 5 ------------ 54 Jinx ------------ 5 ------------ 52 Lucian ------------ 5 ------------ 51 Lulu ------------ 5 ------------ 51 Shaco ------------ 5 ------------ 56 Skarner ------------ 5 ------------ 56 Thresh ------------ 5 ------------ 50 Ahri ------------ 4 ------------ 55 Blitzcrank ------------ 4 ------------ 54 Evelynn ------------ 4 ------------ 53 Ezreal ------------ 4 ------------ 51 Nami ------------ 4 ------------ 52 Olaf ------------ 4 ------------ 52 Rammus ------------ 4 ------------ 58 Soraka ------------ 4 ------------ 54 Vayne ------------ 4 ------------ 54 Malphite ------------ 3 ------------ 57 Sona ------------ 3 ------------ 54 Graves ------------ 2 ------------ 51 Kogmaw ------------ 2 ------------ 50 Lux ------------ 2 ------------ 56 Renekton ------------ 2 ------------ 51 Tristana ------------ 2 ------------ 51 Twisted Fate ------------ 2 ------------ 54 Morgana ------------ 1 ------------ 49 Teemo ------------ 1 ------------ 53 Ashe ------------ 0 ------------ 49 Caitlyn ------------ 0 ------------ 48 Corki ------------ 0 ------------ 49 Gragas ------------ 0 ------------ 49 Janna ------------ 0 ------------ 57 Jarven ------------ 0 ------------ 48 Warwick ------------ 0 ------------ 51**

I found this extremely interesting to compile. It's interesting to note how champions most often considered OP are ones that have relatively low skillcaps with high base win ratios. Hope this is useful to someone. If anyone has any better ideas on how to format this beast, let me know.

*EDIT: This isn't personal opionion, this is_ literally just the difference between win rates of 0-5 games and 125+ games_ Check my math if you dont believe it.

i dont think these people actually read the post.

these are just differences in winrates by games played with a champion pulled of championgg. a 0 means the champion has a lower winrate with experienced players than new players.

garen for example has a 49% winrate with players that are completely new to him, and 59% with experienced players that played him in 125+ games.

hence the 10% difference showing that he actually has an average skill floor and a higher skill cap.

its kindof funny and statisfying to see that garen apparantly has a slightly higher skillcap than lee sin. the difference in winrate for experienced lee sin players only makes 9%

Shame on me for posting and assuming people would actually read it before arguing and downvoting the crap out of it because they disagree.

this is literally just a list of statistics for purposes of clarity. What exactly do you find fault with?

FHMarshy2 votes

Where did you find your 0 skill caps from?

Im sorry but Gragas and J4 are actually not easy to play well, and out of 44 levels of difficulty you gave shaco a 5? A FIVE? that is one of the funniest joke i've heard lol

0 comes from champions who have higher win rates on people with 0-5 games than people with 125+. I didn't "give" them anything, this is pure statistics. 0 represents 0% differential between 0-5 games played and 125+ games played. Likewise, 44 represents a 44% differential (which turned out to be the biggest one).

I love this list its a very interesting way of analyzing a champions "difficulty". I think that its also interesting that the majority of champions that have high "difficulties" a/o skullcaps according to the stats compiled also have a glaring small learning hump :Such as learning how to combo (headset pulverize) on alistarAlistar (even though imo after that his play style is less complicated then say bard or thresh), Or learning how to protect your tentacles/your unique duelling power on Illaoi.

Edit: This list is being totally misinterpreted by people too ...

HA! Gragas takes 0 skill? Son, redo your math. As a longtime Gragas main, I can tell you he requires a fair bit of skill. Especially with his ult. Which if used improperly, can send enemies flying to safety instead of reeling them in for doom. It takes practice to get it just right.

Win rate of players with 0-5 games: 48% Win rate of players with 125+ games: 45%

I'm not saying he takes 0 skill. I'm saying that, according to statistics, people who play him less are more successful than people who play him more. If you wouldve read the post, you would know what the 0 means.

The statistics are literally just analyzing win rates. There's no interpretation for you to call "wrong" attatched.

And ^ is your issue. You have self defined skillcap as a mathematical formula using winrate idata. Ok, you could use the same source information and mathematical formula and define it as "death caused by breastcancer, and that wouldn't change a single thing. Could they refute this formula using your predefined name? No.

However if we were to use the real (or community/societal) definition of what skillcap is it would require a completely different set of values and a base experiment model from which to get true data. You would need an actual control group and experimental group designed around the champ itself not random games mixed with other individuals and champs skewing that information.

What you have is some nice general information for a base hypothesis but its nowhere near real data.

I enjoy Urgot, but are you seriously telling me he has the highest skillcap? -_-

Other than decision making, he's not that difficult you're making him out to be. Even Shaco has him beat.

the difference between an urgot newby and an experienced urgot is obviously gigantic.

even if a champ is mostly defined by decision making, the consequences of making a bad call vs a good call can be more impactful as with other champions that look more difficult but actually arent.

for example i find lee sin, zed, or jayce dead easy to play. you have so many options with these champions, that you almost always have a get out of jail free card available if you fuck up.

be at wrong place at the wrong time with a champion like garen and you get kited and are completely useless. fuck up with lee sin, and kick your opponent 2 screens away, ward hop over a wall and laugh it off. then try again.

flashy moves and being loaded with outplay potential make a champion easier to play, and not harder.

a friend of mine said, that he never really understood jayce. the first time i played him, his ability combos with stance switches happened almost intuitively. theyre not hard to understand and you get the hang of it really fast. but they give you a bunch of options how to approach a situation that a lot of "easier" champs simply dont have.

IcyPepper2 votes

Some champions have high skillcaps, some champions have high skillfloors.

I would consider Urgot to have a decent skillfloor, since his playstyle takes awhile to get used to, but I wouldn't consider the guy to have a high skillcap.

Edit: Also, looking at the stats... I don't think Urgot has a large enough sample size. 724 players (for his most played role) just isn't as reliable as the others. It's likely to inflate his stats a bit :/

Koechophe1 votes

Please read the post before you downvote. This isn't opinion, this is raw statistics.

IcyPepper1 votes

I'm criticizing the interpretation and pointing out a flaw or two.

Urgot's sample size is incredibly low compared to other champions, which may inflate or deflate his numbers from what it should be.

Good point about the sample size ... didn't consider that

The idea is interesting, but the stat you choose is not representative. Especially because champion.gg buckets are too wide and their sample size too small in certain cases.

+1 for the intention and to compensate all the people not even reading the topic.

Koechophe1 votes

The intention was never to show who is op/up, just an analysis of differential because it's something no one does. I picked champion.gg primarily because they have a more focused sample size; I'd rather have outliers than focus placed on lower elos.

DeathBurst1 votes

No, but it's not even representative of the skillcap. Read the recent dev blog from Riot, where they show their graph for Yasuo, with their internal data, and it does not correspond with the data on champion.gg. I blame the stats on champion.gg being partial, and I'd rather believe the stats on Riot side.

Warwick and Yorick are about as easy as each other, but are on opposite ends of this.

Also you have Janna, TF, and Shaco in the easiest champions category.

You're just bad and mad.
