Move to an area closer to riots servers to get lower ping

when i starting playing, the servers were in southern CA.. ( i live in northern CA) my first 8 ranked game ever was an 8 game win-streak following by 2 losses to place me in silver 1 later on the servers were moved to Chicago ( 400 miles away rather than 2000)

during a 5 month period from nov 2016 to march 2017 i was in Michigan VERY close to the servers. until that time i have never even matched that 8 game win streak. in Michigan i not only matched it THREE TIMES, i also DOUBLED it to a 16 game win streak. which i moved back to CA i have never once match it again.

the difference is absurdly noticeable from 80ms to 30ms.

this among everyone else makes me wonder. the elo difference based on distance from the server.

this is not an excuse for "not climbing" this is my personal experience on playing on lower ping for 5 months compared to higher ping.

the difference it makes is astronomical.

I live in Rockford, Illinois an hour outside of Chicago.

When the server was in California, I had 17 ping.

When it moved to Chicago, I had 16 ping.

Fact is, many people play on Wifi or toasters or both and that is the real problem.

Good machines, good ISP and an ethernet connection make the difference really astronomical.

Edit because I had the pings backwards.

.... you know people might belive u more if: A: you played before season 8... B: your statement didn't violate the laws of physics C: you had any understanding of networking and TCP-IP

I really don't care who believes me.

You deserve the ping you have if you don't do those three things. It has very little to do with location.

well that's good... because no one with an ounce of networking knowledge would.

You deserve the ping you have if you don't do those three things.

that statement makes no sense.. i listed three things, moving on

It has very little to do with location.

it has everything to do with location...

the further away you are from the server, the more hops the packet has to take to reach the destination. therefore the higher ping u will have

having "wired or wireless" wont affect ping.. it affect packet loss and lag. which is completely different from ping.

how old your computer is also has nothing to do with it.. the only thing that matters is your network.

the ping between your computer and your modem is going to mean next to nothing compared (usually between 1-3ms) to the thousands of miles the packet has to travel to reach the servers if u live further away.

it doesn't matter WHAT system u run the game on, that will only effect what is visually shown.. and how long it takes on loading screen.. the actual networking has nothing to do with your computer,

it WOULD matter if u had dial up, or if u were trying to play over a satellite connection ( which of course would give u 2000 ms ping because distance)

you could be running league on the lowest setting in a pentium 4 windows XP machine with 2 GB ram.. and as long as the game ran.. it would have no effect on your PING..

your fps might well be unplayable and it maybe take u 8 min to load into the rift.. but your PING would be stable.

if u used a wireless connection you might have packet loss that could show up as highly unstable or spikes in pings.

but any STABLE ping is entirely based on distance.

riot servers havent been in CA since

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support/2uTrAyy8-na-server-roadmap-update-chicago-server-move-complete

guess what it show ON RIOTS FUCKING MAP BECAUSE OF THE DISTANCE

i dont belive you becuase

  1. riots servers were last in CA in 2015.. which is two years before the accout your posting from started playing]
  2. for the data to travel from Chicago to CA in 17ms based on the amount of hops and the data retransmission rate over the 40Km run of single mode fiber it would would take ms violates the laws of physics as it would have to exceed light speed

so unless u have manged to open up a subspace band to riot servers.. i don't think that was your ping

Truly sorry you have bad ping.

Truly sorry you think you know better.

Have fun playing on crap while I enjoy my low ping because I don't play on crap and I don't make excuses for my crap.

https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/page/ethernet-vs-wifi-ping-packets-playing-better

Read it or not. Understand it or not. My guess is you will keep making excuses when the fixes are in my posts and RIOT's article.

You are 100% wrong in your posts.

Good luck lagging.

Oh because you don't understand that people can have more than one account as evidenced by referring to this account twice as my only one, I have been playing since the beginning of season 3. I have seen the server transfer and my ping rose very little because, well, I don't game on crap.

Truly sorry you have bad ping.

i don't have bad ping, i have the normal ping for the location i am in because i live TWO THOSAND MILES from the server

your ping is better because u like less than 50 miles from the server, its really not that complex

Truly sorry you think you know better.

are your really that much of an idoit... i said in my own posts wireless effects packet loss

You are 100% wrong in your posts.

my post is correct, i mean yeah if your using wireless when its possible to just run a cabel then your an idoit, as a wired connection wont have as much packet loss

Good luck lagging.

lag is not ping

lag is caused by packet loss, and/ or your system not being able to run league

that is completely different from ping... yet somehow u don't understand this

latency aka ping is the time it takes the signal (aka the packets/ frames) sent from your computer to get to riots server, and back

that signal has to be constantly repeated as the signal will degrade over the length of wire. a single mode fiber run can get 40KM before it needs a repeater

while a cat 5e cable (UTP) which you use in your houses will only travel 100 meters before the signal degrades

the further the signal has to go the more "hops" it has to take, which is the different nodes along the pathway to riots server u can see when u run winMTR

while the singal travel at almost the speed of light theeach node has to forward it along the path and it is not a straight line.. and each time the the signal gets repeated it will slightly delay the signal.

the further you get out from the end server (which is riot games)

the more time it takes for your packet to reach its destination.

THIS IS PING

what YOU are describing in wired vs wireless is

the "packet loss" in which the packet being sent from your computer never reach riots server

becuase each packet is timestamped if the packet is a TCP packet riots system will realize it is missing a packlet and ask for the packet to be resent... this causes LAG..

swapping form wireless to wried will help with the interference between the wireless networks (there are only 3 non overlapping 2.4 Ggahertz channels,, so if u do have to use wireless 5G is better as there is less interference

but its better to use wired.

Oh because you don't understand that people can have more than one account as evidenced by referring to this account twice as my only one, I have been playing since the beginning of season 3. I have seen the server transfer and my ping rose very little because, well, I don't game on crap.

having a slow "computer" does not cause "lag". in the nerworking sense.. you may have framerate lag.. but that has nothing to do with the signal

swapping to a wired connection will help with packet loss which is a major cause of network lag.

but is STILL not "PING"

my OP is describing how if u want lower ping. YOU NEED TO MOVE CLOSER TO THE SERVER.

that's how physics works.

if your having ping spikes that because u have packet loss.. but if your ping is a stable.

going back to your statement about u have 17 ms ping when the servers were in CA

IF YOU WERE IN CHICAGO. then THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE

becuase the signal would have to travel faster than the speed of light to reach your computer in 17 ms from CA to IL

the REASON my ping is higher thans your.

IS BECAUSE YOU LIVE CLOSER TO THE SERVER.

if u lived in CA your ping would be the same as mine.

LOL you have bad ping because you don't follow any rules about gaming on a computer. You still want to argue and blame everything but yourself. Keep wasting your time instead of fixing your crap.

Wow 30ms the dream , I play EUW never get lower than 50ms

Still beats the days of playing NA servers from NZ on 250ms (which we actually got used too :) )

i always play on 86 ping and im.... silver 5 yea i see it
