If you were taking a non-marksman bot lane as the 'carry' role - who would you take and why?

Considering this is the direction Riot wants to go with League, and open up lane diversity, I'm curious as to what champions you think would be good picks to take in place of an ADC

Obviously late-game carry potential is important.

Who would you take and why? I'll post a few:

Zilean 1.) Lategame can be terrifying. 2.) Brings a crap-ton of CC to shut down the other carry. 3.) Deals a metric ton of damage 4.) Even if he gets caught, he got that ultimate!

MasterYi 1.) Strong lategame presence - can carry if fed. 2.) Gotta survive laning phase. With a HEAVY shield support, farming is feasible? 3.) Hard to escape from - built-in invulnerable tools!

Darius carry, Illaoi Support

Can't we just choose WHOEVER the fuck we want?

MuffledGarbage3/9/2018, 7:34:49 PM3 votes

Kled

Any support with a hint of CC allows his already amazing CC lock a poor ADC down for death

Any support with a hint of heals/shields effectively TRIPLE his health

Any support who can buff his movespeed makes his risk-factor into a non-factor

His W deals max% damage to towers which allows for REALLY fast bludgeoning of enemy botlanes

His Ult lets him and his support run away from any jungle gank

Overall he'd probably work botlane with quite a few supports

Darius + Thresh Darius as the carry and Thresh to help him get into the fights.

Janna + Riven /Fiora/ XinZhao/ Yasuo/Aatrox/Jax /Tryndamere Janna with a melee hyper carry, self explanatory.

Nami + Fizz Fish time, they have incredible synergy.

Cassiopeia + Sona Incredible harass and sustain paired with the hyper carry potential of Cassiopeia.

Rengar + Ivern Incredibly cheesy kill potential and ability to invade the enemy jungle.

Leona + Pantheon Anti hyper carry with extremely high kill potential.

JarvanIV + Brand / Annie/ Zyra/ Velkoz Jarvan as the "carry" as he's rather item dependent with a strong AoE mage for the wombo combos.

mordekaiser because he can take advantage of bot lane pressure with drag, does good damage with someone who can keep him in melee range/cc for him.

Vladimir

Because Vladimir is best girl.

Also because he's a scaling AoE monster with low enough CDs to have consistent damage and some of the nastiest longevity-through-healing in game

Captain Pet Rock3/9/2018, 10:02:28 PM2 votes

DrMundo goes where he pleases... Also he has great sustain is able to last hit under tower very easily and after 6 can just run at the enemy with his other tank support.. Throw in a high dmg jungler and chase them back to base

Tokogawaruf3/9/2018, 3:59:46 PM2 votes

Aatrox. If allowed to go full Damage he can straight go and win 1v3´s alone. Side him with CC and maybe Encharter Buffs and he goes full Nuts on the Enemies Team.

Of course, like with ADC´s, this requires him to be fed

nelogis3/9/2018, 2:23:02 PM2 votes

I don't know about Zilean but Yi for sure

Here are other late game monster that could work in the ADC role:

Azir Cassiopeia Gangplank Kayle Katarina Mordekaiser Tryndamere Veigar Yasuo

Pretty much anything with high consistent damage or absurd burst damage

Xerath double the targets, double the fun. Also fantastic waveclear.

I was so excited yesterday when a diamond Xerath went botlane in my norms. That is, until I saw him building crit. [zombie-brand-clap]

Ziggs Apart from the fact that he can still bring tons of damage to the table, he's got poke and some mild zone control.

He also takes down structures super fast.

Draehl3/10/2018, 1:58:11 AM1 votes

As a Bard main I think Swain, Vlad, Illaoi or Ziggs could be fun.

Anomander3/10/2018, 2:09:57 AM1 votes

I and my friend do off meta bot lanes all the time.....

just recently we have done leona with a swain which was fun as her root allows swain to use his passive.

JarvanIV MonkeyKing Singed Volibear Blitzcrank Chogath Veigar Syndra Lux Morgana

Are some of the more fun combos we have done.

Last season in ranked we did a lot of Jarvan Wu. I had a 71% win rate with it.

NemeBro3/10/2018, 7:21:11 AM1 votes

Yasuo :$D

Meep Man3/10/2018, 7:27:18 AM1 votes

Swain Best sustained damage among Mages and has built in-sustain to match the enemy's life steal or at least try and compete with it. Has innate synergy with multiple Supports with his passive and can take objectives quickly.

Vladimir See Swain except trade some damage for more healing.

Ziggs Is the best Mage at quickly killing towers and has insane objective control with ultimate. Pretty decent sustained damage, but usually comes out as really bursty, inconsistent sustained damage, but still ok.

Karthus Is also another good sustained damage Mage, but has no sustain and little objective control outside of suicide diving. Is probably the best team fighter though.

i did some fiesta on ranked with lethality jarvan + alistar back when relic gave 75 hp and it was nerfed for ranged. Won laning phase every time by dumping on enemy adc at lvl 3.

AmIWr0ng3/9/2018, 2:25:01 PM1 votes

Brand ?

  1. If support has knock-up, brand can subsequently w+q and then proceed to kill.
  2. Has great recovery, IMHO, even in losing matchup and big team fights.
  3. Is squishy but can build 1-2 HP/resist armor. Liandry's, rylai's and any other insane Ap item makes him built.
  4. Little bit on the lower side of mana, but runes and items might make up for that.
  5. Low movement capabilities but players should know caution with him.

Gangplank Jayce Lulu Urgot Xerath Teemo ?

Bob the Toastr3/9/2018, 6:04:01 PM1 votes

I've successfully played several non-marskmen in botlane including: Pantheon Mordekaiser Tryndamere Taric Urgot Thresh

I actually played pantheon ADC (was duo'd with a leona support) through my flex provisionals and ended up 8-2 in them. It's pretty effective lol.

TonyTonyMordecai3/9/2018, 9:38:34 PM1 votes

I would think Azir, since he fills the need for sustained ranged damage that most ADCs have (or should be) and he has decent waveclear and a slow that could help the initiator support get in range

saltran3/9/2018, 9:47:02 PM1 votes

The more safe would probably be some mages like Azir Ryze Orianna Karthus

Taric + Leona

So long as you aren't going into a super strong peeling support like Janna or Lulu then it is just a murderfest of stuns. The late game does fall off due to the lack of range but the lanes can get very stompy due to their pretty heavy damage, incredible amounts of CC, and decent sustain via Taric heals and 2 relics.

I find that currently nothing will beat out ADC's in terms of gold>late game power conversion, so the next best thing is to take two champs designed to function without much gold but have the ability to stomp lanes and try to decimate the lane and push for an early win.

As an actual "Carry" Aatrox + Leona, Taric, or Janna can be pretty scary for a similar reason. Aatrox's all in potential is pretty insane early and while he falls of late game pretty hard he can snowball from early to mid game very well, and his sustain means that after a close fight he can push without worry since if the jungler is even 5 seconds late to show up Aatrox will be healthy enough to fight them.

He tends to be pretty weak at pushing turrets though since he relies on his W passive for damage and since hellbent doesn't refresh on turrets it only nets you a little bit of damage while making you quite vulnerable since you can't easily access your AS in a fight and thus can't easily get into a revive state. His only other buff to take turrets is his ult which early game has a decent CD and is a big part of his ability to kill early due to the AS, Range, and big nuke it provides so you don't really want to burn any of his stuff on turrets.

Something I've been wanting to try is Ivern +Nasus If Ivern hits one Q nasus can just dash to them and delete them.

Slythrin Umbreon3/9/2018, 11:44:47 PM1 votes

Ziggs Karthus Vladimir sustained damage mages. Anivia Morgana Because play them in every lane. Maybe some matchup specific champs, like Orianna If my team is all in Lissandra vs Multiple assassins.

ahferroin73/9/2018, 11:46:28 PM1 votes

Ziggs (because nuke the turrets from orbit), preferably with a Zilean (for even more zoning and explosions) or Nautilus (cause lockdown and bodyblocking) support, although he technically is a meta bot-laner.
