I don't understand the hate for the support item changes?

The premise of new support items is that the game essentially frontloads your gold on your 4 ward item, and then guts your income when you complete your quest. You need to realise that they're forcing the 4 ward item on you because you would always forgo it for earlier item powerspikes, but now you get the 4 Ward item for free and your first ~two item powerspikes sooner.

It's wonderful, I think, and it encourages better gameplay from supports. The new support items are ALL interactive. I'm so glad coin is gone because it means that supports that were balanced around non interaction can now be balanced around interaction. The free slot in your inventory is for control wards. This should probably be your inventory (Engage Tank, general case):

item 3860 item 2055 item 3193 item 3364 item 3109 item 3050 item 3117

Cost: 8250 ignoring control wards, 8000 if you took stopwatch

Supports actually got everything they wanted at the cost of very little. Plan for 3 core items outside boots, control wards and support items that cost roughly 2,750 each. item 3179 and item 3916 are options to keep your budget low. I know the item changes are controversial, but as a support player I really like them!

Sorry but no. Most supports would upgrade their gold item once so they'll always have 3 wards with them. They could do this while still getting other items without the need to lose most of their already low income. How is this a positive change? Supports got nothing. They lost CDR, regen and gold income for not having to spend less than 600 gold on their first upgrade. That does bit seem like a fair trade in the slightest. WE ALREADY HAD A DEDICATED WARD SLOT SO THAT ARGUMENT IS INVALID!

League of Damage dictates the game is over by minute 15 anyway.

But if it goes longer than 20, supports now fall off so freakishly hard from their income being gutted in this manner that they effectively lose all relevance unless they set up the game-winning Nami ult. I say this cause of course if you get assists you get gold...but then again, if you get enough for it to matter, and your team hasn't already won, your team is honestly throwing the fucking game anyway.

My issue with this, and especially adding control wards is IF we hit late game, we're asked to peel Aatrox/Irelia/Riven from our carries with essentially one empty item slot, two gimp items and two actually decent tank items.

Usually just ends with either you and your carry dead because you're too weak to matter, or you die and your carry runs away, again because you're too weak to defend yourself.

Sure sometimes you'll win it, but it seems to me like a 2v1 should have better odds than that.
