He is the only melee midlaner that uses mana, with four delayed damaging spells ( passive needs 3 procs, his Q comeback, his W delay and his R delay ). There is not a single midlaner that fits this style. pretty much all melee midlaners are "resourceless" ( I am not considering health and energy costs though )

Sir Yamazuki2 votesMelee shouldn't really be considered much of a weakness when you have a bunch of tools that pretty much negate the fact you're melee. You pretty much can't chase him or you instantly die, and if he has the stats to kill you, you aren't getting away from him between all his mobility and cc. Even if his W and R is delayed, he can buy a Zhonyas and his team will most likely have cc anyways.
