So, did mages get kind of screwed?

I'm not talking about alle the item nerfs they received over the last year, but about losing 15AP and their Mpen early on without getting and damage compensation on their abilities like most other classes got. Particularly already strong characters like Zed got multiple skill and stat buffs to make up for runes, meanwhile characters like say Ahri or Xerath got shafted. Not to mention that keystone rune selection seems to flatout ignore a lot of mages who lack the hard CC for meteor, like Karthus for example. Not to mention DoT Mages which have like no options at all which the changed Thunderlords and removed DFT.
