Add a loading screen teamchat.

Be it to discuss invades now that you know your enemies' summer spells or just for chit chat.

Considering how long many people take to load it'ld be nice to get to know your mates rather than watching the same Artworks for the 1000th time.

Good luck. Ive been recommending loading screen chats since Beta man. It doesn't look like they listen to their community on things like that.

WindScorpion4 votes

I doubt it's a matter of not listening to the community. As with all things game development related, it's a matter of priorities. Sure, it would be nice. And very useful. But so are a lot of other things they're working on. I would also be that adding chat to the loading screen would require a pretty significant rework of the codebase, since that's not currently interactive in any way. To do that would require taking resources away from other things.

Grand Eleven4 votes

They said the same thing about the (now closed) GD in regards to summoner icons.

Then one day we had them, and found out it was implemented in a single day by a Rioter during his allotted "work n whatever you think is cool day".

Yeah priorities are important ... but sometimes people overestimate the workload of a change. Some are monumental to be sure (maybe this one is) ... but we seem to be OK with thinking all of them are ... which is just silly.

Duke Leto I21 votes

I've considered this too. I would actually suggest staying in the lobby until the game has been loaded by everyone, then launch it. Loading status could be updated near the user.

Reslust1 votes

The only thing is, summoner spells aren't viewable from the lobby. That is an easy change. Should they be viewable to enemies after a champion is selected?

Would tell more about where each champion is going, rather than having to guess. Also, you would be able to pick counters more easily, which gives the ability to juke out enemies by selecting fake summoner spells and changing them when all champions are locked in.

Onegarion1 votes

I think you would more or less "unlock" them like they do for that split second in blinds when the game starts to load. While i'm not in load times that often I think it would be nice to be able to talk with your team to discuss the very beginning steps in solo que with very few people jumping into chat programs with strangers.

jimmylism10 votes

Rito, plz make it so that we don't spend the entire loading screen looking at the same splash art for the nth time or just being afk.

Reslust1 votes

What else would take its place? Maybe some statistics of that champion for the player? Maybe one giant screen with one splash art at a time that rotates every 5 seconds. The full beauty of splash art is never seen, and its a shame, because some splash arts really compliment the champions nature.

This is a good idea.

Bump.

Why not add an actual voice chat...?

Super Kami Guru31 votes

You want voice chat in League!?!?!?!?!? Do you also want WW3? You think Call of Duty and Xbox Live voice chat is toxic....wait until League has one.

Also, I neither speak russion nor french :D

iamthegoatofwar3 votes

That's what mute was made for.

ChaosThief15 votes

You mute one, 8 more take his place.

iamthegoatofwar2 votes

So we don't just basically make it like curse where you don't have to have the chat on if you don't like it...? You guys still haven't given me an argument that I can't think of a counter for...no offense.

Yozaru1 votes

Because it will likely start "omg!!11!! report noob for refusing to komunikate not use voice chat". The last thing you want is arguments starting before the game starts.

As much as i like using skype or raidcall for playing with friends, voice chat with strangers could have some problems

ChaosThief1 votes

It was really supposed to be a joke...

There are 10 people, you are one. So 9. One of the people you mute. 8.

That guy you muted tells the rest of the people, and then THEY turn against you.

Keep in mind, I meant this as a joke, someone bless whoever this happens to.

iamthegoatofwar1 votes

Ah I grew up using chat and I swing the mute hammer accurately enough people don't just turn on me. Sorry I didn't understand the joke.

ChaosThief1 votes

It's fine. I'm guessing like nobody would've gotten it, since it wasn't really much of a joke...

Samster4236 votes

Oh thought it was a joke about Hydra. Mute one, two more shall take it's place!

KidKaiser1 votes

lmfao.

but i understood it. wasnt much of a joke tho ;/

ChaosThief1 votes

Yeah... I know that. I deserve shame...

Feathermane6 votes

We all know what that chat would look like, don't we?

Household appliances listed "hilariously" in a sequence.

it sounds good

Rogue Revenant2 votes

I'm sorry but this is an AWFUL idea. It would just be a breeding ground of toxicity. Lets have an example:

Lets say someone has a computer powered by a hamster while also playing on the McDonald's wireless. Granted they probably should be playing league but it happens so we have to deal with it. So naturally they take FOREVER to connect to the game and everyone is pretty unhappy about it. Normally they have about 1minute and 30seconds to be a dick about it or just jab at them before the game starts and in MOST games that's the end of that.

Adding this, would just give players WITH OTHERWISE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO an opportunity to just abuse a player for the entire loading screen. Hell some players are bad enough even when they have the game to distract them. Games will end before they start. THIS isn't even the only situation where this would just become terrible. It's just one example of many.

I understand your point, and on paper it would seem like a good idea. I think in practice though it would get really bad really quick and it would only end up hurting everyone overall.

"This is a bad idea because someone could tell the slowest loader to update their potato-modem in the loading screen instead of 2 seconds after the game loads."

If they were going to harass the player, they would do it anyway; why does it matter if it happens approximately 30 seconds before the match instead of during it?

This was already covered but whatever:

  1. It's the length of time they have to do it, which is quite a bit longer than the normal start of the game.

  2. THEY HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO! Often people do things just because they have nothing better to do at the time. So even if they normally wouldn't harass the player, they will probably start because really there is NOTHING else to do during that time.

I'm glad to see you have such a gloriously optimistic view of people though.

JustMyBassCannon3 votes

For a cynic, I definitely have an optimistic view of people.

  1. They have a longer time to vent before the game, as opposed to either venting in the first minute or just bottling it until said slow loader makes a mistake.

  2. If a person normally wouldn't harass a player when the game starts, why would they harass them in the loading screen? Someone who does not have the impulse to harass people would not suddenly feel the urge because they have the option. That's like saying that a person who has no desire to murder would suddenly kill someone were they handed a gun.

No it's not, that's a drastically huge leap. Such a huge leap the two aren't even comparable.

Most people would view giving someone a hard time in a game over the internet either as harmless ribbing or just flat out trolling. They don't view it as actually harmful to the person which is part of the reason why it happens so often. It's the idea of "lol I made them mad, but they'll get over it."

To them it's like giving them access to water balloons. They don't have to use them, but it's not REALLY going to hurt anyone right? Right? It's because they don't view it as innately harmful that they would participate.

It's in no way similar to suddenly thinking someone will become a homicidal maniac.

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

It's on the same level of idiocy, whether or not it's on the same level of being an utter maniac

If you fill the water balloons with piss, then maybe I'd consider your analogy more accurate.

I agree 100% and have often thought the same thing.

I second this.

I feel like change is goal next season. For all we know they've been listening and they might surprise everyone with a lot of stuff. If not, they should. It'd be a awesome surprise for the fresh season. It'll bring peoples hopes back and bring back old players who've quit from the crappy, buggy, season 4 ;P

Train Wrecks21 votes

I have no experience in coding, but what if they did that weird thing where sometimes there'd be "two" clients up during the loading and rather be brought to the loading screen you can go their and be connected to a little team chat window.

GOOD IDEA! RITO PLS! BUMP

Or have instant load like some other games...swear played another game I shall not name here in the MOBA line up a few weeks ago and nearly fell over when the game insta started.

Hyperqueen1 votes

It's a great Idea but I don't know if it's very necessary, as you might wait a while for this to ever happen. But I'd like to have this (:

fiqolek1 votes

I think it's a great idea, you can already planning in loading screen if you want to invade their jungle, players could notify jungler if they want more help on lane and if game start you can from the beginning concentrate on game then on the chat. Also putting voice chat could simplify a lot in game (less writing, you can again concentrate on game and in the same time alert your teammates if your enemy is missing from lane), but it should have option to turn off, if you don't want to talk to others.

Hojo Lodis1 votes

Or... add that info that tons of players go get from 3rd party (websites) aka the Mastery / Runes and etc your oppenent is using .. on the loading screen.

0WoQGQXGNp1 votes

Yup, do this asap. I always thought about it but never made a topic about it cause i'm pretty sure riot will never read it. If you alt tab while the game is loading and click the riot icon in your hidden icons, it pulls up another Leauge client and you can message your friends, if you can do this their must be a way for a loading chat.

Wullf1 votes

Let the flame feast of loading screen begin.

No seriously, I'd love that.

48983507DEL11 votes

Adding a teamchat to a loading screen would probably make the loading slower, now that the client would also have to connect the in game communication systems before anything else and then send the messages while the game is loading. To get the chat to work, people would actually have to load the chatting system, which is probably a certain percentage of the loading % anyway. It would be nice, but it would definitely present a few problems if it is doable at all.

Jaksback1231 votes

I'd love this idea. The loading times can get super boring. Especially with people playing on potatoes lol. Im all for this!

Skreete1 votes

You have to remember, some people will have arguments on chat. Instead of having a team chat, have it like the home screen of the launcher, only with champions loading pages, but with a home button to do things while you wait. You can still have the team chat, but sometimes it may hinder the team's performance with rude people on there.

Janna Haze1 votes

Already there is a possibility to use chat during loading screen. Just minimize it and pop up client from the tray. How hard would it be to create a lobby with all the players from the team so they can communicate by it? HURR DURR THE RESOURCES! THE CODING!

Also this reddit sucks.

wolfboyforever1 votes

i would love this, ive thought about this many times before.

it would also help keep people from minimizing the screen, i hate when people come back and say "oh whoops, i alt tabbed while it was loading"

OmniMoto1 votes

I know we would all love a loading screen chat, but lets be honest hear, it might actually cause more lag then what yall might think, I would love a chat, about I don't think it is the greatest thing, maybe they can add something to help with the severe lack of entertainment during that time (if you want entertainment though, just alt-tab out)

ZeroQuest961 votes

This idea is a nice idea. I mean normally you don't even get to discuss team wide strategy due to the short period after everyone picks. Plus, it gives the loading screen something to do. Not to mention there should be a button near each portrait that toggles an ability screen instead of a splash art (learning curve is hard for new players/sometimes we forget what a champ does when they fall off the face of the rift). I for one would at least like to be able to alt + tab the loading screen reliably without having the annoying black screen until the game starts.
