Brace yourselves, jungle ChoGath QQ incoming

Because lord knows redditors will scream OP if something is even close to the level of Lee Sin.

Honestly, all of the changes to the jungle items were huge buffs to ChoGath as well as feast buffs. Initially I didn't think the feast buffs would mean much, but holy shit you stack up so fast now.

Cho'Gath has always been one of the best at objective control. That's even bigger now. Cho'Gath has always had decent ganks. With stalker enchantment, his ganks just got harder to outplay. Cho'Gath has always been a sustain freak. That's a huge plus for any jungler currently.

With juggernaut enchantment plus feast stacking incredibly fast, ChoGath becomes incredibly tanky really fast. And he's one of the best aura tank junglers (building aura items like locket, frozen heart etc) because of how well he does with both CDR and defensive itemization.

He is honestly probably one of the best junglers at the moment, I am not saying he is OP though. Because I don't think he is. I'd rather have a jungler dominated by champions like ChoGath who need good teams to play around over Lee Sin who can single handily carry a game from the moment it starts by building a little damage and disregard clearing and just get double buffs and gank.

So I am here to pledge my allegiance to the United Void of Cho'Gath.

Don't worry, wait until the pros start picking him and you'll see the same people do a 180 and yell at you for not picking him.

I remember how people were saying Zillean sucked before Worlds this year, or that Annie supp was bad during season 3.

Its always amusing to watch those same people go "I knew they were strong all along!"

I still hate Annie "support". This is coming from a guy who plays GP as a support. Her kill potential is just too high for a support role. At least you can coordinate with Lux.

"I haven't played mid in a while so I'll just take Zilean and hopefully be easy to carry" "Wtf I can't carry a Zilean mid" Then one week later Faker uses him and he's in every game.

Meh. Cho's lack of mobility kills it. Also the long delay on his Q. He'll most likely get good winrates in bronze and silver. Above that he'll stay bad.

That's why I said the stalker enchantment helps. It makes outplaying rupture really hard. And I think Cho'Gath will always have a lower winrate because he's actually really hard to play.

And team fighting, it's basically peeling and disrupting, which any decent Cho'Gath has always been good at. It's everything before that where things for him are incredibly frustrating.

Actually, underplayed champs tend to have very high winrates in high elo. So this statement was really stupid to say the least.

junglerboy166 votes

—for the simple reason that those people who DO play under picked champions usually know every single in and out of their kit if they are playing them at that elo. That is why Poppy mains are the scariest thing in the game: you KNOW that they will get ahead and crush you, because they wouldn't pick her otherwise.

Rinky Dinky3 votes

Exactly... They learned their champs, and they made them viable. The majority of champions in this game a very much viable, and can be played with just as good results as the top pick. They just arent popular. Poppy is an excellent example. Anivia is another. They are both very strong, and are both very much viable picks if you know what you are doing.

Being a Poppy main basically means figuring out a cheesy way to get her going in the current patch (and then odds are you'll need a totally new approach if too much changes). Loads of fun, even if it's not fun at all to play against (or usually with since people tend to throw temper tantrums when they see her)

just seeing poppy alone is scary. eeep Poppy and that female wrestler voice...

i usually just dodge whenever i see a Poppy in ranked: horrible to play against her, and i know for sure she will be fed as hell in 10 minutes cos the dude is probably a one trick pony

Kowe The Ewok1 votes

They do. But only if they are semi reliable. Cho's Q is less than that. Good players regularly dodge it like is nothing.

I expect nerfs if he starts getting picked at 1% of the rate LeeSin does.

Its hillarious to see the same few champs stay on top for litterally years, and then when one less popular one acutally starts showing signs of being good, its insta-nerf time.

Yeah all of the changes in the new season, plus the change to his ult made Chogath pretty good. Nothing changed his counterplay, which has always been "Dont stand in the circle". To balance for how difficult he is to kill, he has no mobility, he has to hit his Q or his would-be snacks just kite him to death.

Well the truth is, even Lee Sin, Elise and Kha have been nerfed several times. They just have a lot of stuff in their kits that survive nerfs moreso than many other champions. Which should say a lot about them - get nerfed hundreds of times, still God tier.

Riots approach to the jungle is pretty satisfying honestly. They are buffing a lot of junglers and they really aren't nerfing any currently, which I'm totally okay with Lee Sin (to an extent) if other junglers get to his power level and are allowed to remain there. The question is, will these buffs get these junglers to that level and if they do, will riot not jump the gun this time and nerf them hard again. History says no but this is the first time they've acknowledged that this is a problem and thus the changes to the jungle and the items. Instead of nerfing champions, nerf items instead.

I know Warwick got mega nerfed but Riot forecasted that correctly before the preseason even began because they knew the changes would make him absurd in both itemization and the ability to sustain in the new jungle, which actually matters. What this means is if champions like Lee, Kha and Elise screw up ganks early, they get punished for it because they can't just go AFK clear the jungle to catch back up because in the past, their innate sustain and clear time were both good enough to give them the capacity to do this, which shouldn't be the case for any jungler.

Ever since one game long, long ago when I started building Utility Cho'Gath in the jungle, I must say, holy crap I have yet to find a utility tank so satisfying when things work. Virtually unstoppable thanks to the built in tankiness of his ultimate when paired with the right items, and with proper utility itemization+his Q and W abilities already built in, the amount of CC or utility Cho'Gath can offer is just phenomenal.

Cho'Gath has always had decent ganks.

wait, wat?

Rupture is a great ganking tool and with red buff, the best way to gank with him is flank, apply red buff slow then rupture when flashing/using mobile ability.

As for mana problems: what? Lol. His passive restores mana and you generally build frozen heart on him. I've played him in the jungle a few times and haven't had any mana trouble at all.

been playing cho/fiddle since s5 opened. No ones ever told me he sucks since s5 started. his ult nerf that makes it so you can't gank every 60 seconds is a bitch. other than that hes fine.

His ulit wasn't nerfed lol

It was buffed so that using it on minions or jungle mobs halves the cooldown so he can stack faster. It's base cooldown was always that long.

ImHerVoice1 votes

read it again. The base cooldown was nerfed. Its less if you ult minions. this ruins jungle chogath who uses ult for ganks. Or a level 6 tp ganking chogath for bot lane. you wait much longer :p

Its only good for AFK farming cho and thats not the fun way to play him. :/

Get 6 stacks. Buy elixer of iron. Face turrets in a one to one death match.

I love him, when I play with at least a premade. Otherwise people don't realize that we can contest every obejctive because I can steal it with R and can sneak drag/bar because I ahve 1k + smite of true dmg. Definitely good in premade teams, can not carry alone (unless the enemies are constantly getting caught by Q)

junglerboy161 votes

Just wondering, but has anyone tried AP or on-hit Cho'gath in the jungle? I doubt it would be as strong as tank Cho, but I'm just curious and wanted to know your opinions

IGotScuttleCrabs1 votes

Rylais is great on him. Open up with your silence and you're Q is 10x easier to land. Plus you get more HP+more cc in you're kit. IBG is a good option as well for a similar effect.

junglerboy161 votes

Yeah, I was thinking that could be good, but does his E damage proc Rylai's? I thought I read somewhere that is procs spell effects, and if it does, cho would be a CC machine with a Rylai's.

brb trying Gentleman Chogath.

Pip-pip! Cheerio!

He's okay in the jungle, but any jungler worth their salt will just invade. He cant really fight against champs like lee, rek, j4, pantheon, vi etc. due to their high base damage/mobility.

Mazianos1 votes

Get e first, you out damage those "high damage/mobility" champs

Kingsgrave1 votes

Only problem is that he is rather easy to punish in the jungle. He doesnt have the best early game.

I just started playing Cho'Gath jungle last night for the first time,

...Oh my god it is glorious, especially with six stack of feast, iron will elixir, hide in a small bush and wait for someone to walk by, you will scare the crap out of them!

I played a Cho'gath jg 14/9/13 and just feasted on squishy people aka Lee sin who went all dmg..

Sohleks1 votes

Cho'Gath ganks are horrendously pron to failure. If my champ has a mobility skill or if I have flash you will never land your Rapture unless a Mega Gnar combo's me or a level 5 morgana bind rooted me.

I was recently playing Gnar versus Irelia. Irelia's jungle was Cho'Gath. As long as Gnar does not misstep next to Irelia's low hp creeps I eventually push her out of lane while zoning her. If Irelia had an actual jungler like Jarvan or Lee I might of died when Cho eventually came top. Instead when I see Cho coming and Irelia moving towards me I just jump over Cho as he misses his Q and laugh at them.

I just don't see Cho being a reliable jungle pick. And I have tried him before... ganking mobile lanes is just way too hard, you're handicapping yourself as jungle Cho honestly.

Like seriously, when people pick sub par jungles it just gives me more leeway in lane. You're making the game not only harder for yourself but your team.

i love legos

You do realize that level E first allows you to clear jungle mobs very quickly without using any mana? The only reason you'd burn mana in the jungle would be to Rupture them for the knock-up / stun, and Feast for stacks.
