An innovative way to improve Cho'Gath

As we can see in this patch Riot is aware that Cho's spot has worsend - and they're ready to improve it. In the upcomming patch Cho will have an increased cooldown on Feast, which gets lowered when being used on creeps. This is a change which many Cho players (inclusing myself) consider a nerf for toplane Cho since he looses killpressure in trades.

However, I am not completely opposed to this change. I see it as a chance to improve him if we add some interaction to it. I would suggest adding the following synergy to his kit:

Upon hitting an enemy champion with Rupture Cho'Gath gains 6% movementspeed for each stack of Feast he has (duration 2 seconds).

  • While it does not help his killpressure in lane, his engage and disengage get improved which make laning without Feast active less punishing if he uses his Rapture well.

This might not be enough, but I consider it a good change to start with. Maybe you guys have ideas to add some Feats interaction to Feral Scream and Vorpal Spikes?

Let me hear your thoughts!

Actually, I count it a buff. It means stacking feast is going to be a heck of a lot easier. Now if they extend Vorpal Spikes range just a smidge, I'd be more than happy.

It's a nerf. Capnchogath, abaxial, and myself have all commented on this nerf extensively.

An additional 20 seconds cool down in exchange for a half length cool down when I feast and kill a minion or monster. It's really stretching it to call this a nerf. It will make stacking your feast passive MUCH easier while still ensuring that you still have it up a lot quicker when you have to go into combat. Not to mention max CDR is pretty easy on Cho, meaning that addition 20 seconds will be nearly nonexistent come mid game.

The problem is that in lane, top-level Cho players don't really eat creeps that much unless they are backing. Doing so when an enemy can see you is very punishing because it guarantees that the enemy can trade with you at will until it comes back up again, so you can actually be zoned completely from farm during that time. You usually have to use feast to trade or force an opponent out of lane (and ideally kill them), which is much harder now that the cooldown is longer.

Their argument is, this loss of laning power leads to enough loss of power that it mitigates whatever mid-game or late-game stacking benefits may exist. There is also the loss of consecutive teamfight ults in the midgame, although by the late game this is less relevant.

Maybe it's just my rank, but I never considered ult needed for trading in lane, only for all in attempts.

If an enemy tries coming up for a trade, Q,E, Auto and walk away. And this is IF they are still strong enough to trade. I tend to try and measure my csing so that when I AA the minion, my vorpal spikes will hit my lane opponent.

Anytime my feast is up, if I'm not going to use it to go for a kill within the next minute, I grab a minion, the extra health is worth it if they try to trade because I can tell from my opponent by now if I'm safe to trade with them or if they are the type of champ that is even capable of zoning me.

Ok, so, let me explain what happens if I play Cho. Say that I ult a minion. What that means is that for the next 40 seconds, the only things I can use to fight are Q, W and E. The opponent has Q, W, E, and ult. He'll beat me in a fight, and he knows it. He can just try to force fights with me at will if I try to farm. The problem isn't so much that I give up all-in ability, the problem is that I give up the ability to defend myself from an enemy all-in.

However, say that my opponent has no ability to threaten me and I am not at risk of being killed, then I still don't want to ult minions because that means that I have a chance to kill him or deny him farm by threatening to kill him. That is worth so much more to me than the stacks.

if I'm not going to use it to go for a kill within the next minute,

The thing is, I can barely think of a time when this applies. I will always be wanting to either kill him or threaten him enough that he knows I can kill him so he can't farm, and he'll always be trying to do the same to me. Passively farming the lane with the opponent is going to be a bad strategy for either me or the opponent almost every game, so there is never a point where a fight isn't possible. This is particularly true when I burn my most powerful fighting tool to gain a feast stack.

The cost of giving it up to farm gets very high when players become aggressive. Against opponents who know how to exploit weaknesses, it becomes a huge liability. If you watch high-level Cho play, you'll see that they almost never feast quickly after getting 6, unless they are out of enemy view or they are backing or have forced their enemy to back.

I think that depends on the opponent too. If they have a way to re-initiate, then that could make trading with them difficult. If they try to go all in or trade, drop Q beneath us, E them, basic attack once and walk away. If they don't have a way to re-initiate, then it's a won trade thanks to Q base damage and silence on E. Obviously this doesn't work in all lanes. I can only speak from my own experience and even I'll admit I've not taken on every champ with Cho.

Idk, if this hurts Cho, then likely we'll see it get reverted in time. This is still a massive late game buff lol, especially if you fall during a team fight and need to stack back up before charging into their base.

Cho. Doesn't. Need. A. MS. Buff.

Enjoy the damn buff you just got, ffs. It makes life for Cho so much easier.

Actually it is a nerf for toplane Cho because he looses trading potential.

A little, but in exchange you gain the ability to stack your feast passive a lot faster while also ensuring that getting a stack will give you your ult back a lot faster.

You can test your idea by having lulu or zilean in your team. Personally I don't think it will change much, if you land your q in teamfight and put silence on top of it you are already golden. And if you didn't, mechanic is kinda pointless. You will be useless with or without it.

I would rather reduce range on silence but add some slow% to help you in landing those close combat Q's. You need something to make cho harder to kite or something that will make him harder to peel of.

Also beware of remakes because you might get cassiopied.

I like the idea for that change, but it doesn't address the issue of hitting his rupture in a meta where so many champions can dash away from it. I had an idea that maybe as he gains feast stacks, his spells AOE increases (like how his AA range increases). It wouldn't have to be much at all, and I definitely like your idea for gaining MS for landing rupture. I think these two little changes could be all that Cho needs to help him out.
