Playing as Taliyah can be frustrating....

I feel like this champ play style puts her in short to mid combat, with very unreliable spells, and no defense. I've listed a few situations below and you can judge and tell me if I'm wrong.

Situation 1: Facing a Yi/jhin mid combat.

Here is what usually happens in those situations. Taliyah will cast q, only landing 1 hit. if she hasn't already been cut down by Yi, she will then try to cast her EW combo which she will miss 80% of the time. Even if it does land, it does not do enough damage. Her ult is useless in mid combat. Result is death.

Situation 2: Riding her ult and blocking enemy team from retreat.

Again, this puts her in mid range combat with very unreliable spells. The results is missing everything and then death.

Situation 3: Blocking enemy team retreat but not riding her ult.

Doing this almost almost means late participation in team just because of ult positioning tend to put you far away from the fight. It also puts her passive on cooldown and you have no speed boost to help you get to the fight. At least this time you did not die but you didn't really participate in the fight which is not satisfying.

I feel like riot said they would look at champs that need buffs after item 3116 nerfs but complete forget. They did not buff one single champ. Only singed got some recent love which was way over due as this champ was generally ignored by enemies mid combat.

I feel riot needs to revisit Taliyah. She can be better.

Dude, Taliyah is a beast when used properly. She takes coordination and roaming, but she can be highly effective.

In your first scenario, you only really talk about being countered by Yi. Congratulations. You're playing a champ that has a counter. If he uses highlander, you're kinda screwed unless you can get a W off before he goes into alpha strike. But why does Taliyah need to be safe from every champ?

Also you listed Jhin. That's a ridiculously awesome matchup for Taliyah. Shove the wave, and go roam. Jhin has slow waveclear so you can push it easy and then disappear.

Knowing where to hop off her wall is just as important as positioning your wall initially. If you ride it to the end and jump off on the same side right into the enemy team, that's not a Taliyah problem. Try hopping off the other side of the wall from the enemy in these types of engages. Obviously if they are in full retreat your team has the advantage and you should be able to dispatch most of them before the wall goes down.

Alternatively, you can hop off the wall before making it all the way. Hop off at like 1k range and come into the battle rocks blazin'.

Taliyah doesn't need any buffs. She is fine the way she is.

I absolutely love Taliyah---I know, I'm in a slim minority of players that do (although I miss her original W).

I suppose my only real problem with playing her is that it is a nightmare to go against mobile champions. Yes, you absolutely can win a lane against a Yasuo as Taliyah, but it is hard work and you have to play the matchup nearly flawlessly. She feels a bit unsatisfying in teamfights and the worked ground debuff needs to be trimmed back a bit in my opinion.

Taliyah is surprisingly strong but situationally so. I may criticize Riot a lot, but I think Taliyah is a very well balanced, high skill type of champion---but please put back her old W :).

Taliyah is a fucking mess i feel you and basically everyone who plays taliyah feels you. She basically has no passive, her q is so oppressive u cant use in the same place for like 2-3 minuntes. her w+e combo is unreliable. Outside her ult she is useless in teamfights and her ult isnt even reliable. She needs a rework

I know why. TF is fucking awful and gets abused by basically every champion in the game.

You didnt answer my question though. If taliyah is worse than tf in every way, why does taliyah even see any play. What is it about taliyah that makes pros pick her.

She isn't. TF is dog shit.

TF has the benefit of semi-global pressure, like Taliyah, but it comes with no wall. This means TF is forced to go where he ults, While Taliyah can simply block off a path and force a fight/aid a retreat/prevent a siege/take an inhib. TF's ulti gives vision, which is great in uncoordinated solo queue, but generally unnecessary in pro play as they already have the vision they want. TF has a huge risk-reward for picking him, with very little actual reward. He's like a completely unsafe pseudo-hyper carry, except he has garbage range and gets locked down/killed instantly. Taliyah has great range, punishes dashes, blocks off entire teams (and can punish dashes again if they hop over)she has extremely short cooldowns, MS buffs; she has many things, like Orianna, that make her a great addition to nearly any team comp. If you pick TF you better pray you have a proactive jungler because if not you're just going to get dove over and over, and over, and over, and over until you eventually quit out and you never become relevant.

Taliyah is better (and used in LCS because) Shorter CDs Better synergies for building a comp Better ultlity on ult AOE dmg that clears waves in seconds AOE CC that can potentiality knock up 5 people More dmg in her kit overall

Why would TF be better?

BabyNaix2 votes

TF has a point and click stun, which never miss in the hands of pros. Taliyah has a knock up combo that even pros like Bejorsen and Jensen mess up in game. TF's q-w combo has higher range and deals damage instantly, while Taliyah's E-Q-W combo is delayed. TF with lich bane can start to delete squishies and towers. TF and Taliyah's wave clear are similar but TF don't have the worked ground tax. I agree that potentially Taliah CC can be game changing and affect multiple enemies. TF and Taliah ulti are pretty similar. Both have pros and cons. Mainly I think TF is much more reliable, even though Taliah have more potential which requires perfect execution.

You arent wrong, and thats why i enjoy taliyah. not because she OP plz nerf but shes less popular and kinda niche. In the hands of a pro Taliyah > Tf and we agree there. But to win some solo que, yes TF is better bc reliablity. Thats why im a casual hard stuck in G5 lmao. id rather have fun with Tali then earn elo.

Taliyah main here, with a few tips. Be patient It takes quite a few games to get good with her and she doesn't fight like other champions but so strong if played right.

First your W is so valuable DO NOT WASTE THIS SPELL. I literally do not cast W unless I'm certain it will hit. If W it misses you play safe till it comes back up.

Second understand your range and when its safe to use Q. So often people get caught up in landing Q rocks they end up walking right into the front line or too close to a place of no vision.

Last your ult is amazing in TEAM COMBAT if used correctly. Talyiah is not a 1v1 champ. Do NOT try to 1v1 a yi that is NOT your job. Use your ult to choke off enemies and play around your teammates. Often I split with her and use ult to enter fights and cut of half their team, we can get a few kills and do an objective.

Play norms until you master these things and you'll do great gl hf!

She's a difficult champ. I have experienced the frustration of playing her with no practice, so I know what you mean.

I have also played against very good Taliyahs, and get stomped. She's fine, she's just a high skillcap champ. That's how some champions are.

Taliyah is really powerful and gets tons of free movespeed

Facing a Yi

Well this is a quick way to invalidate your post. Plus, you brought up Jhin but didn't say anything about him.

Another thing about Taliyah ult, You don't have to ride it all the way and you don't have to not ride it at all. You can also use it preemptively to block turret/inhib/base defense, as well as defensively when your opponent is sieging your base.

As far as her abilities and damage, every champion has hard and soft counters. If a champion has large slow resistances or is immune to CC, they will likely be a softer counter to Taliyah. Fortunately she gets so much movement speed from worked ground, and also because Yi is a trash champion, Taliyah is fine in most of these matchups. She generally runs Stormraiders and she does quite a bit of damage.

The great thing about Taliyah though is that she has very few bad matchups. This is mainly due to her kit. When facing a champion with a lot of skill shots, Taliyah's range and movement speed make her hard to keep down. She also has excellent wave clear, making it difficult for assassins to ever have the opportunity to fight her.

Of course nothing that I just said matters if the player commanding Taliyah isn't good at the game. Not trying to flame you, but for someone who plays a very large of amount of AP Lucian I think it's important to take into account skill level across the board.
