Something riot needs to consider if they really want mages to go bot and have carry potential...
Baron buffed minions are hard to kill and incoming skill shots from both mages and ad casters are blocked by them. This adds an immense amount of difficulty to champs of mage class and counterplay that surpasses regular gameplay mechanics.
For example.
Q has counterplay because it can be blocked by minions. Simply standing behind a minion prevents him from landing it.
Velkoz can then choose to clear the minion wave with other skills and then he'd at least have a chance to use his full spell rotation once his spells are back up. However, with a baron buff, this is not an option. Those minions simply don't die, creating a wall that blocks all incoming skill shots.
On the otherhand, ADCs and attack oriented champs are totally unaffected by baron buff. They simply right click as per usual and everything still works fine.
I'm not saying that baron buff should lose this feature on minions, but riot needs to give Mages some tools to bypass baron buffed minions if they are to be on the same page as ADC carries.
Having an item active similar to bard ult, that would only put minions in a stasis would go a long way to assist mages and minion block.
Hell even
can be reworked into something like this so that towers and minions can be put into stasis while mages get some ease in getting off skill shots.
Remember, skill shots actually takes skill and is not as reliable as a right click auto attack, so there is still counter play in just that fact along. Allowing mages to temporary disable minions to get their skill shots off won't break the game in my opinion as they can still simply miss the spell.
