So whats the difference between autofill and S5 and before pick order?
In both you can get any role anyway, but i think pick order had adventage cause you didnt had to gamble your role with jungle/mid to be able to play jungle.

The new system makes you get your lane... a lot less than before imo. Used to get first or second pick every game before the new system emerged. There was also a lot more communication as people were picking the lanes they wanted, and trading with each other. Now... people just go braindead and don't communicate. I've had times where I've traded a pick with someone, and expressed it, and someone else panicked and locked in a pick thinking the lane wasn't covered... IN THE NEW SYSTEM. This didn't occur in the old... at least not as often as it does now.
Before, riot was just suggesting that you should play the order that was handed to you...... now they aren't asking. Oh and also they spent about 6 months getting everyone used to only maining two roles period before they started shoving those same settled in people, including new players into support, a position they do not want to play, have no idea how to play, and basically are not willing to play.
To put it bluntly: The problem that existed before was purely based on the community, and that the vast majority of competitive gamers have some degree of an ego and don't get along well when you start butting those. The problem now is, Riot essentially fixed that and then didnt like the side effects of having a long queue time so they semi-reversed it without asking, or any type of forethought as to what kind of unintended consequences there might be as a result.
S5: Community Created tensions and bad attitudes S7: Riot encouraging that same tension which had mostly dissipated to come back to the surface in full force and make people feel like they are being directly dictated to (which they are).
What's worse is the system is complete garbage, autofilling people when they don't need to be autofilled, and such.
The difference is you could more easily scream, cry, whine, beg, wheedle, or make deals to get your role.
You can still do that, but it looks dumber when your role has been determined for you, and everyone can see it.
