An actual PSA: Your first placement

The Ecdysiast··47 votes·21,270 views

It seems an astounding number of people just refuse to read updates. So to clarify: Your first placement game will decide the worst possible rank you could get after your 8 placements. So it can and likely will go up from there during that time, especially because you can't lose LP during those matches.

More importantly, you gain boosted LP during your placements, and can't lose any. So you should try even harder than usual, not refrain from trying.

though note, as some people are morons and are throwing games because "I cant lose LP lol" that each subsequent game especially if you lose is giving you less LP. So while your LP cant go down, your potential earnings can go down significantly.

TL:DR, try you idiots.

I think it's more stupid that people play for the score board than to win.

I had that in all my games yesterday, unless the win was free the team simply refused to work for it and instead just play for kills.

My first match put me B3 because of that. I don't play for the score board or kills, and since everyone would ks me (at one point I had the most assists in the game) and stealing my jungle creeps, I didn't have gold to do anything, and since I was playing Evelynn, that counted as me doing poorly.

Heck, in one game, they even told Pyke to stop using his kit because they don't care about the gold, they want kills.

It's practically impossible to respond to post as idiotic as yours politely.

You didn't "normally" get Silver 5 while you now get Bronze 5 because before you didn't get anything. You only saw you got Silver 5 AFTER THE 10 PLACEMENT GAMES. You now got Bronze 5 AFTER THE FIRST PLACEMENT GAME. It's completely possible in the last season system you got Bronze 5 initially (exactly like now) and rose to Silver 5 by the end of the 10 games, while it's possible you will cilmb to Silver 5 by the end of the 8 games too.

You had to fight "through some serious bullshit to win" before too because you had to still play all placement games to be officially placed like before.

This whole thing seriously takes one braincell to get, I am amazed at how many people failed to.

or maybe you are not good as you think you are. added iron rank probably change division skill and that B5 now can be equivalent of S5

Yep, got Iron 3 from being S4 last season. Idk if I even want to play knowing i'll have to go through Bronze all over again

You can still climb faster than before. I ranked a new account in preseason, starting at iron 4 and got to silver 4 very fast cause of skipping divisions.

Side note: Run it down and you get a better Placement then anyone else.

lv 103 goes 5/13 lv 109 goes 4/11 lv 112 goes 8/17

You know its lost when your top, jungler and mid intentionally run it down their lanes and blame your Lane (Bot) for not helping while in the mean time your Adc is 9/0 and you are 3/0. I got Iron 3 after that, the feeders Iron 2 .. so is this system telling me to intentional run it down every Match?

Game demotes you an entire tier. Then it allows you to move up 1-3 divisions, but also insists you "Can't lose ip" during your promos

Well it's either that to ensure people who are high rank still belong there, or putting everyone in Iron 4 and making them climb.

MankeyMadness1 votes

System has always moved you down a tier when you first place. Its because Plat I was the highest rank, so Diamond+ players demote by default, meaning high Plat is technically all diamond players so normal plats place in low plat/Gold I ....

Yeah, exactly. If they didn't make players climb one tier then they'd be doing nothing to ensure people belonged in their tier.

Sukishoo1 votes

It generally moves people down a divison or two, not a tier.

So i won my first placement match and it gave me bronze 3. Well i won ALL of my placement matches except one and ended up at Bronze 1. Yea, that makes alot of sense. Before, that would have gotten me to Gold, or at least close to it.

Well, no, no it wouldn't. If your first placement got you anywhere in bronze and your later placements then matched you with enemies accordingly and you still only won 7 of them, the old system would've put you in silver 5 at best. Even though it didn't show your "preliminary rank" like it does now, it still functioned similarly.

And since there is no silver 5, you're now in bronze 1. It worked exactly how it would've in past seasons.

Riot is a one-hit wonder company that copied an already existing (for many years (decade)) and they created it at the right point in time, they werent the first attempt at aMOBA, but they were in that first wave. They aren't special superhero people like the CEO mike from oldschool blizzard (before they soldout to trash acitivison and fired off it's diablo 1/2 starcraft 1 crew etc etc etc blahblah w/e) So you can't expect them to actually know how to run the game. 10 years in existence, 20billion dollar company, and riot still hasn't put out any other game than League of Lebadgends.

What makes more sense to you guys: Being placed in bronze after playing 1 "promos" and having to play 500 games to get out of bronze/silver (because your team is casual players who only play aram and the occasional ranked, no draft lmfao true story) OR Being placed Gold/platinum, losing 20-50 games, and being bronze/silver.

riot doesn't get it and hopefuly it will come to bite them in the butt here soon I give this game another 5 years. ALLS IT WOULD TAKE for LoL to die is for another company to put out a MOBA similar to it, with the outplay dodging and style of play, but put out nonfurry champions, and to put out bad@zz yugioh/demon/attackontitan anime freak champions, and to just do it a little better and care a little more. Honestly if I had a few million dollars I know I could run riot out of business, anyone could, idk why it hasn't happened yet.summoner 11

Just to be clear, the people who founded Riot and then made League were also devs (for a somewhat long time) to the original DotA. And I say "for a time" because no one owned DotA, the devs come and go on the fly all the time since it's an open-sourced mod. I have no idea how many heroes they made on the DotA mod during their extended stay but it's possible that when they made League, maybe some minor ripoff happens sure, what's more interesting to see is that if they only "blatantly ripped off" the heroes they themselves had created.

Icefrog, the de facto owner of DotA to many, did not design the vast majority of the mod. He was just the last dev of DotA mod.

But somehow people see Icefrog as the owner of DotA, which is like 90% he didn't make himself. And we hound Riot for ripping off the things they'd contributed greatly in creating in the fist place.

..........

Also, even old Blizzard has always been ripping off games left and right. They were just really good at marketing and polishing their games; originality was never their strongest suit if you look retrospectively.

Warcraft nicked the Warhammer. Starcraft nicked the Warhammer 40k and Command & Conquer. Diablo is I guess the only original IP in their "Big Three" but it's based on well established Abrahamic myths so it's not like it's that new; the gameplay was the real innovative part at the time tho I can give it that. WoW was a ripoff of Everquest.

And Overwatch, another actually original entry unironically coming from the new Blizzard, is about a cast of diverse "no-stereotype" characters that's full of blatant stereotypes.

Rank is and always has been, a test of a person's ability to suffer trauma and keep coming back. Like a rat in a lab trying to push a lever to get a reward of cheese, but the lever is made increasingly harder to push, or there are consequences for pushing the lever. The rat keeps trying. I learned within my first two weeks of playing ranked in season 3, the system is not an accurate representation of your skill. It simply isn't. It's hard wired to try to keep you in a 50/50 win ratio and you have to fight the system. It's not a reflection of your actual skill.

I despise Riot for this.

yes youre right, the system is hard wired to keep you in a 50/50 win ratio.

but heres the key point:

when you get to your correct skill level

and its not a nefarious system that does this, its the natural result of losing a game slightly to hard for you and then the difficulty decreases so you win a game slightly too easy for you and then the difficulty increases, back and forth over and over.

If you get better then you win more than you lose and then you climb until youre at your skill level again and go back to 50/50

quick maffs

SirHydro1 votes

You're making excuses for a purposefully designed system that doesn't judge or accurately reward your skill.

You're that guy making excuses for the other guy that beats his wife. Oh, he only does it when he's drunk. She threw out his baseball card collection. She forgot to record his TV show. She cheated on him.

Don't be that guy making excuses for others clearly in the wrong. Rank rewards people that enjoy suffering.

Strawman argument.

DMate192 votes

But you do have an influence on the game. It isn't incredibly pronounced, but it is still there. You are 20% of the reason your team wins on average. you are also 20% of the reason it loses on average. If you play well, you can skew that in your favor. Sure, you can't win them all. Sometimes everyone will feed and you cant carry no matter what. But the chances of everyone feeding are just as high as everyone winning lane and carrying you no matter how poorly you do. If this wasn't true, how would account boosters exist? How can they push people out of low elo's in a matter of days or weeks? And how do elo's always end up showing an accurate level of skill over time, making a diamond player objectively better then a silver player? How would a fixed system push those people to the top? Sure, you may get bad luck for 10 games. But logic shows that over time you are more likely to have average luck, pushing your win rate to depend partially on you, allowing you to carry a strong win rate if you truly deserve it.

And don't call people out for poor arguments and logical fallacies when your entire argument is a logical fallacy. Saying "my experience proves it" and making silly analogies that explain the victim complex and not the actual issue of win rates is an extremely poor argument. That's just bad manners

SirHydro1 votes

There is no logical fallacy in my argument. It's a stated fact the way the match making system works. Once again, you're winning fictional arguments.

What I don't understand is do you get like a different rank based on what roles you play?

For example, I'm projected Bronze 1 for mid and Silver 3 for support.

Do I just have 2 different ranks? Or is my lowest possible rank overall Bronze 1?

YOU SO BAD1 votes

Placements dont even matter. read below for why. you can know your rank without even doing them.

This has been how it is for years. The only difference is now everyone can see what they have been doing for placements. i played 1 placement a month back when they introduced it and got silver 3 on a horrible loss. I was placed exactly 4 tiers lower then what i ended with last month. After 1 game a win i am now at bronze 3. Exactly 4 tiers lower then what it said i was a month ago. You know whats funny enough? You can only possibly go up 4 tiers during placements. After my second win. both games S or above so its not like i played bad im now bronze 3 with 48lp. whats this mean? I was placed to where i could get even to where i was before or lower then but not ahead. If they are going to do this kind of system it would make sense to start where you ended last season. Not just place people so they can only climb to even or less then what they had last season in placements. After talking to about 10 other people at all levels its the exact same thing. except above diamond.

Something seems wrong though.

I'm supposed to get boosted LP?

I got 60 LP when I won my first placement and got silver 3 (after being gold 4 in flex last season). My next 3 wins (despite getting S ranks in all 3 of those games) have given me 39, 33, and 35 LP. Something seems very wrong with that, that's barely 50% more than I normally get at the start of the season (25-26 per win). The only benefit is to avoid promo series, but at the current rate if I have 2 games left and if I don't win both I might only end up silver 2 99LP - only avoiding 1 promo series with placement wins despite going 5-5 (currently 4-4).

I can only imagine that losing games 2-5 screwed my LP gains in games 6-8, but that's absurdly unfair. Getting absolute garbage teams for 4 games in a row that can't listen to pings and avoid feeding snowball assassins early (5 tbh, game 1 my bot Lane fed their Kai'sa ADC 16 kills but we managed to carry them) basically means not only do I not get that potential 200-240 LP but also I only get about 100LP for the next 3 wins instead of close to 200. That's a 300LP deficit (or 3 divisions, one of which is going up a tier) because of 4 games.

So REALLY not a fan of the new system. If my gains stayed around 50-60 per win and I was at Silver 1 0-40 LP right now it would still stuck (losing potential division skips because of a few games with bad luck) but at least be understandable. A few losses making your climb 2-4 divisions (and promo series) longer despite coming back with the same number of wins is absurd though.

Just glad I did flex first and not solo queue. Dropping from plat 4 to silver 1 likely, would have been devastating. Hope they fix this garbage before I do those placements.

I agree a bit here. I think Riot is going the right direction, but there are some fatal flaws. 10 games is not even close to a valid sample size to be placed when it takes so long to climb. You get an unlucky streak and you are SOL.
