They should keep this Yasuo "bug"

The Ecdysiast··136 votes·22,257 views

Edit: Feel free to read at least past the second paragraph before commenting. The number of people reading only the title and ignoring the most important part is too high.

Apparently there's been a bug with Yasuo lately... where his wind wall functions as it should have since his release. It's not blocking until the cast animation is actually finished, rather than just blocking anything from any direction the instant you press it. And it's way more fair.

Hell, if they would intentionally put this in, there would be room to adjust Yasuo where he actually needs it instead of leaving his stats fairly weak in exchange for keeping the parts of his kit that are frustrating in the same state.

#Though really I just want Yasuo to get less frustrating to play against so I can pick him instead of him getting banned.

Edit: Since most of the comments are either in agreement or say this breaks the ability because they think the reactionary use is vital, then there's this: If you do think it should be reactionary defense like a spellshield, then it needs the duration brought down to 1 second to match them. Having it both ways is and has always been the biggest problem with his kit.

You might even say that the fact it gives you so much leeway for timing it wrong, to the point that it can even block a projectile that is already contacting the outer edge of your model before even a single particle of the ability itself is on screen, has been the bug all along. It's not fair for clarity.

Final edit: Since at least one person was brilliant enough to think I meant to literally keep it as a bug, allow me to clarify: This should be fixed up and made into a feature, with the particle effects not even beginning until the animation is finished and the wall is in its fixed place.

What I want to see is for the aspects that make him frustrating to be wrangled in so that the parts of him that are too weak can be strengthened. That way people won't ban him because he's tilting to play against nor because allies might have no idea how to play him.

I’ll still ban him. Mostly because he has leesyndrome to the max. Ie Your yasuo will ALWAYS go 0/14 rage quit and flame all game by default. The enemy yasuo will ALWAYS be fed by some twat on the opposite side of the map from you and be 22/2 by 15 minutes.

Personally I ban him cause he can be hot garbage and trash untill he gets his 2 crit items and the he suddenly can duel fountain turret.

Like, this damage spike he goes through is so stupid and so unfair to his opponents it's just insane. He's not a hyper carry. No. He's Hyper-Hyper-HYPER carry.

I mean. Your yasuo tends to have that as well with their r. I swear some dudes just have the thing glued down.

The Ecdysiast8 votes

That's not leesyndrome. Leesyndrome is pressing Q every time you land one whether or not it's a good idea.

The equivalent would be pressing R any time anyone is knocked up. Which some people do do.

But if they did hit his frustrating elements, they could adjust his numbers in such a way as to make him less polarized.

Voluug132 votes

To be fair Riot made it so there is hardly a wrong chance to press R, with mechanics like Yasuo staying out of turret range.

Windwall would be useless if it didn't block until the cast animation ends It's supposed to be a reactive spell, not a proactive one Windwall cast animation is about 0.25s Imagine if spellshields like Sivirs' had that delay, they'd be garbage, same idea here

Well sivir's (or nocs) spellshields actually dont provide teamwide protection from projectiles and ww can block multiple projectiles unlike spellshields.

Spell shield's like Sivir and Noc's also aren't restricted to projectiles, meaning they can block stuff like Malphite ulti / Darius Ulti / melee based hard CC. They also reward you for blocking something, which in Nocturne's case can be massive (doubling the attack speed bonus is a huge benefit).

Apples to oranges.

Oleandervine17 votes

No it wouldn't. It would require Yasuo to actually need to predict his opponents, and could still be used reactively if the delay was 0.25s. Furthermore, the spell is there to offer him defenses against ranged opponents, as he was designed to function in mid against mages. It was so he would not get detonated on the spot for trying to lane against opponents with high burst from afar, and nothing about the ability specifically requires it to be used as a split second counter to a spell.

Salron4 votes

Yasuo is a MELEE champion and you cannot block spells at close range without it being instant If you're playing at an elo where your opponents aren't mentally impaired then throwing out windwall before they throw their skills out will result in them simply holding their spells

Oleandervine13 votes

If Yasuo is in close range with a mage, the mage has fucked up. He doesn't need to have an instant block for ranged attacks to use at point blank range. That's kind of where the opponents who would abuse a melee, and thus necessitate him having Windwall to begin with, are their weakest, and where HE can fuck them up.

Plus it has all these other uses such as its not just limited to blocking skill shots but also ranged autos including minions. Spellshields don't do that and that is the difference of why ww shouldn't be more reactionary than what this bug provides currently.

People complaining about Yasuo windwall never gets old....Especially since its a ability with a long cooldown.

The Ecdysiast7 votes

Gee it's almost like the function of the ability is unreasonable regardless of the cooldown.

Who woulda thunk?

Nameless Drifter3 votes

How exactly is it unreasonable? Windwall is the only way for Yasuo to defend himself.

His dash range is pretty limited not like the Irelia one where she gets free resets with her big ult. As long you dont fight near minions you are good.

His ult makes it easy to just lock him down and get bursted down, so if he doesnt get a 3 or 5 ult he will die if focused.

His windwall has a high cooldown and if you just zone his team out of it or the place where the teamfight starts change or moves up, his windwall is useless.

In lane, the windwall has like a 24 seconds cooldown, and most champions can easily damage him despite the windwall being up or just abuse the time when its on cooldown.

Your issues are? Of all the issues that Yasuo has, his windwall isnt one of them.

The Ecdysiast10 votes

In order:

  1. No it's not. He has a self-shield. Nevermind the options to build Phantom Dancer, lots of lifesteal, or even just more health once you have two crit items.

  2. "Don't fight near minions." While in a lane? Are... are you joking? What, are you just going to try to bait him into the river and let him free farm?

  3. Only an idiot would ult into 5 enemies when he only knocked up 1.

  4. That would be true, if not for how it functions. What I was referring to was the fact it starts blocking the instant it's cast, so it can even block things coming from the other direction before the particles even appear. That is the unreasonable part.

  5. Yes, Yasuo does have a fairly weak laning phase against ranged champions. But that doesn't mean he should get to use his wind wall when he didn't react in time for the particles to even appear.

Of all the issues Yasuo has ever had, his wind wall is the biggest. Hell, you just explained why the rest of his kit is not the problem.

Nameless Drifter2 votes

1- His self-shield literally can be proc up with a auto or a ability, if you consider it a big deal....It doesn't stop any cc;

2- Yasuo matchups in top are usually unfavourable for him. Midlane, he currently can have priority due to the AP and APC mana nerfs, making their wave clear inferior. However against assassins Yasuo, usually loses;

3- There are fights where Yasuo can't get a good ult or can't even ult anyone at all, making him useless at times;

4- It should block the moment its casted, because the way the ability thematically works is that the Windwall starts on his hand/sword and ascends foward in front of him. Thus it should block everything even if the ability is in the first 0.2 seconds animation process;

5- The particles appear in my monitor everytime when I play against him.

The issues that Yasuo has is not the kit other than maybe the tornado range. The biggest issue is Conqueror.

The Ecdysiast4 votes
  1. Yeah, that's called a way to defend yourself.

  2. Yep, that's why I want them to adjust him to be more of a fighter and less of a sub-par assassin. Aaaand you didn't actually respond to what I said because you know "don't fight near minions" is impossible.

  3. Not being able to ult doesn't make Yasuo useless. Dying because of a bad ult, though, sure.

  4. That doesn't even work thematically. First of all, it's definitely not covering an area large enough to protect him. Second and more importantly, if the wind isn't strong enough to see at that stage then it's certainly not strong enough to block a projectile.

  5. Not while the ability is still inside his model, they don't. That's a lie or ignorance.

Conqueror is not Yasuo's issue. Yasuo isn't even performing any better with it than he did without it. His issues stem from his own kit.

  1. No, its called playing around his kit, popping his shield prior to a trade. Worst case scenario you force him to windwall and now have 26 / 24 / 22 / 20 / 18 seconds to prepare him for another burst/trade.

  2. It actually is possible to fight away from minions, Yasuo will usually trade by E'ing through a minion with a delayed q to poke you, and depending on your health and known cooldowns, either E to you, or E away. If you are able to aniticipate this (like many players I play against are) you can simply step a little ways away.

  3. Have you ever had a teamfight in jungle with Yasuo or anywhere with no friendly knockups? Do you understand how important it is that he gets an R off on a key target? It doesn't matter his Q cooldown, because a vayne or any competent ADC can just kite away and damage him. If there are tanks, he needs the Last Breath buff for the armor pen, although I feel the duration of this could be lowered.

  4. His windwall is very key to help against charm, root etc. Late game, windwall is important to keep Yasuo in the game, pretty much his only strength (later on).

Also, playing Yasuo a few times in blind pick doesn't mean you understand him. You need to understand doing good in a blind pick game on a champ is VERY different than doing good in a ranked scenario.

The Ecdysiast4 votes

Are you really trying to make the claim that a shield isn't defense? Just because you have to pop it doesn't mean it isn't defense. That's how a shield works.

No decent Yasuo will put himself away from the minion wave just for poke. And... you completely destroyed your own point. If he's only doing so when he knows your cooldowns are down, then you have no ability to fight him.

Like I said, I'm looking at this from the lens of good Yasuo players, not ones that mistime their ults. So the idea that he's totally destroyed without ally knockups isn't feasible.

You didn't respond to my point that it shouldn't block before the visual is present, so.

And the thing is, I played him a ton back before Mastery existed. Your inability to understand him on an analytical level doesn't have any effect on the facts.

The fact is, there are aspects to his kit that a large proportion of players find frustrating to play against, and that the top players abuse when it's a good counter pick. If power was shifted out of his W, shield, and E, and instead into his base defenses and damage, he could be less frustrating for people and not be constantly in the top 10 bans like he has been for years.

So now your argument is 'top players abuse him as a good counter pick'? So we should nerf ALL counterpicks that top players take then?....

The fact that you haven't seen a yasuo that uses his e and q for poke and harass says a lot, I also never said he only does so when you have no cooldowns, I said depending on what cooldowns, he will either jump on you, or E away to safety.

Even the best Yasuo players can't go into a fight with nados ready, its hard to time. The argument that you're looking at this from the 'lens of a good yasuo player' doesn't work. My point was that his R is KEY to get on the enemy carry, both for damage and the CC, which is HARD to do when there are no ally knockups OR Q stacks. (Can tell you've played him 'a ton')

Face it, you just lost super hard to a yasuo, came to forums to cry to people who share similar opinions as you.

The Ecdysiast3 votes

Nope. The argument is and remains that his wind wall, when used by an experienced player, is far too forgiving.

You sure like to twist and flat out ignore my words, don'tcha? What I said is that no good Yasuo will go for the poke when they would be extremely vulnerable doing so. The fact you seemingly can't read more than one sentence at a time says a lot.

I haven't fought a Yasuo in a while. So... nice try, kiddo. That's an idiotic thing to say in a discussion. What happened was that I saw the bug on the forums and, being a Yasuo fan myself, saw this as an opportunity to get his power shifted so I might actually get to play him again. Which you would know if you read past the title.

Suzuya Juuzou1 votes

So, Mr. Aram professional, then explain to me why yassuo isn't rank 1? why isn't yassuo or any challenger yasuo player rank 1 or anywhere near it for that matter? If he's so busted and easily able to abuse everyone??? Ranged matchups bully him period. His shield is basically useless into ranged champions if his enemies are good.

You keep mentioning that you're looking at the lens of a good yasuo, well then you should probably also look through the lens of a good ranged player??? (Cause you don't seem to be doing that) Let's just say Xerath for this case. The basic trade pattern would be auto yasuo to take off shield, q/w in either order, while autoing in between. Now either he windwalls e or your autos and either way your cd's are much shorter than his windwall. And it applies to most ranged champs. To name a few: Ahri, Annie, Lux, Syndra, Ryze, Vel'Koz.

If you're going to be technical about how strong the wind is in a game whether it should really block a bullet, I have a lot of questions. Why does magic exist at all in this game? It's not real? Technically, you can make a case for a lot of things being unrealistic. That's why its a video game.

Yes players find mechanics frustrating. Does that mean they need to be gutted/changed entirely? Yasuo's winrate isn't insane? People will always complain about something that allows for outplay potential. You can get better and beat him or learn to trade against him.

You know who will also forever stay in the top 10 bans? Vayne? Yi? Lee Sin? Jax? They get banned because they're popular.

It's interesting to me how you manage to say: "If they hit him where he's unfair regardless of his performance...". So now you're changing the argument to that anyone can use his windwall and it's deemed unfair? I don't think anything is unfair about being able to trade with ranged champions at all. Do you know how hard it would be for yasuo to get out of lane unscathed with no windwall? You seem to just think the ability should be gutted because the nerfs you suggested would borderline make him unplayable. Would he still get played? Probably because his fanbase is huge. But you would never see him in proplay or even high elo.

As for your "original" argument, it's not too forgiving. It initiates at his player model, like any other main defensive ability (and to clarify by defensive ability I mean spell shields and actual shields like Braum shield because comparing windwall to a plain shield makes no sense.) The fact that it's reactionary doesn't mean it has to be 1 sec duration because unlike spell shields it has an insanely long cooldown. Are you trying to say Braum shield should only last 1 second?

The Ecdysiast1 votes

I've specifically avoided saying "overpowered", so that you can't lie like I said it. And that's what you've decided to do.

Having mechanics in his kit that aren't/don't feel fair does not mean he'd automatically be number 1 all the time. That's a wholly ridiculous claim.

Aaaaand... spell shields do have long cooldowns. Not sure what game you're playing where they don't. Yasuo's is 24 to their 20.

You're speaking as if you didn't read the post. It's getting really tiring repeating this, but I want him to get his unfair aspects made more fair so that he can get other changes where he needs them.

As it stands, his kit is half frustrating strengths and half unreasonable weaknesses. What I'm asking for is for both to be brought inward.

Suzuya Juuzou1 votes

Did you even read what I said? You're quite literally putting words in my mouth and calling me a liar lol. I didn't use overpowered once? You seem to think his windwall isn't balanced but it really is. You VERBATIM said and I quote (again), ""If they hit him where he's unfair regardless of his performance...". He's not unfair like you claim he is. His windwall cd is longer than other spellshields at every rank. (see next paragraph) You can't just claim something you happen to dislike is unfair/doesn't feel fair. I could claim all ranged champs into melees are "unfair/don't feel fair" like Hashinshin but no one does that because it's moronic to do so.

No, if you read I quite clearly said rank 1 or even anywhere near rank 1. Currently Yassuo is 462 on the ladder (which is Grandmaster 376 lp). The point here that you clearly missed was, if two evenly matched players are going against each other (AKA challenger vs challenger), your claim would implicate that Yasuo would win vs most if not all lane matchups or at the very least NOT die (because of your "no good Yasuo will go for the poke when they would be extremely vulnerable doing so.") but yet yassuo has a 1.89 kda which is by no means good. His shield isn't terrible and his windwall cooldown is very punishable. Like I said most ranged champs have shorter colldowns for their damage than his windwall cooldown. "You know who will also forever stay in the top 10 bans? Vayne? Yi? Lee Sin? Jax? They get banned because they're popular." You never answered this because you know it's true. These champions that can outplay will continue to have popularity and high ban rates. You ever think about how China/Korea don't have problems with yasuo??? Alluding to Riot Blaustoise's tweet: https://twitter.com/RiotBlaustoise/status/1108856966829359104

To clarify the spell shields, yasuo's windwall is 26 (clearly you don't play him) and sivir's is 22 however when they max them out with 0 cdr they get yasuo's to 18 and sivir's goes to 10. And if we even talk braum or Nocturne. Braum shield is 18 to 10 and Nocturne spell shield starts 20 and goes to 12. Not to even mention those champs build cdr so naturally their cooldown is gonna be EVEN LESS than that. :)

Oh no I read all of the post and too many of the comments. He's not unfair to begin with. He is a high risk, high reward champion. What exactly do you think he needs buffed? He's fine where he is right now? He's not too strong and if anything he's on the weaker side with a 47% wr in plat+, 48% in dia+ and 48% in masters+. He has a 49% wr overall including iron, bronze, silver and gold so you can't complain that it doesn't account for most of the player base. There isn't an unreasonable weakness otherwise he'd be in line for a rework. His kit is fine the way it is. The champ has a high skill ceiling for a reason. You keep saying you're asking for him to be nerfed in some areas and buffed in others but never mention what he needs buffing? Base stats? He's not meant to be an early game champ. He can survive in the early game fine as it is because of his current shield and windwall. On top of this the whole argument hinges on the "I want him banned less so I can play him more." But even through nerfs/buffs or whatever changes you want done there is literally 0 guarantee that he won't be banned anyways. New champs are always banned because their mechanics are new. Not to mention that like I've mentioned multiple times, popular champs ESPECIALLY ones with outplay potential will ALWAYS have a high ban rate. Your whole argument is wholly ridiculous and based on a false assumption that yasuo will be banned less after being gutted that you cannot even prove. No matter how hard he gets nerfed he will always be banned. If you'd like the proof I can show you the patch history for him and show you the corresponding ban rates for those patches. I guarantee you that his ban rate has stayed relatively the same. https://gyazo.com/0d756385016fd2147169dc134dc58d31 Courtesy of op.gg

That ability needs a rework if riot refuses to remove it. Make windwall have an HP or something.

Riot should fix that. Even if that ability is arguably toxic, a bug will not magically fix it and will probably cause more problems. You can't really fight toxicity (windwall) with toxicity (a bug that makes an ability near useless). It's just...unfair. Which is ironic because Yasuo is kind of unfair...

The Ecdysiast1 votes

It doesn't make the ability useless though. It only means you have to learn how to use it properly instead of just getting lucky because there's a massive window for failure.

Learn how to use it?!? It's a reactive spell that the second it appears it blocks everything.

A bug is not the answer nor a method to use for skill.

ChaosReyn2 votes

It's not that simple though. You know it well, my skillshot can literally be piercing your champion model, then just disappear the actual millisecond you start your animation. Now it's on a 0.25s delay (the reason I think this "bug" is already intentional...) and you can't just erase a skillshot already embedded through your skull and have to press it before the skillshot's model actually fucking penetrates your champion model.

So you're saying that if the ability is already set on a Yasuo, nothing should stop it? Not even his windwall?

Then what's the point of fast reaction and even dodging?

if the ability is already physically on top of him, then yes. If it's a projectile aimed at him/locked on him, and he uses wind-wall the way it's intended to work then the wall should stop the projectile. If the projectile is already physically connecting with his model when the wind wall is used, then it should not just dissipate because "fuck it, I'm yasuo."

You know what I'm saying...the only other way to describe it is with pics/vids, and though I can do that, I'd rather not have to treat you like a toddler. You have IQ points. Please use them.

It's 4am here and my brain can barely function a 2+2. Yeah my sleeping schedules are fucked up. I'll fix that when my classes start again for the summer.

You know what...that's fair. I've been there.

(A shame this guy's channel went downhill...anyway, my times are about 5s before the actual play, so you have time to actually see it happen)

Stuff like the crazy outplay at the 30 second mark of this video - that's an honorable outplay, the guy flash/w'd and ate heimer's whole ultimate despite the range and despite the proximity of his model to the wall (some people would argue "he's on the other side of it!" but imo, he's not.)

Something like the blocked Veigar ulti around the 2:20 mark is what I'm talking about. The ult was literally connected with his model and just dissipated before any of the particle effects for the wall existed.

That second part is where my issue lies. And the icing on the cake for exactly why I have an issue with it doing that is because of instances such as that ashe arrow that came in the clip right after that one (at about the 2:40 mark) where there is no feasible reason that it should be blocked, but the game reads the particle effects before it reads the actual wall, and I guess starts that actual wall animation slightly behind him before expanding it to block the actual targeted direction, and doesn't show any of this until the animation starts from basically just in front of his model. To make sure we're on the same page, it 100% should have (and did) block Riven ult...but that arrow block was absolute horse shit.

The thing is, it's not a fast reaction. The fact you can do it when the ability is already beyond where you should have put the wind wall means he's got way too much leeway.

The fact it blocks before any particles of it are visible is a problem both for clarity and fairness. Hell, one could say that that has been the actual bug all along.
