Maybe, although I cannot remember much about the whole Tesla vs Edison feud. I like to remember Tesla as they guy who was the better inventor, but because he had no business sense, he wasn't very rich, while Edison was basically the Lewis Dodgeson of real life and made quite a bit more money, even if he didn't make as much stuff. That is how my fanfiction goes, anyways.

Due to smear campaigns and whatnot at the time, no. Many people went with Edison at the time, and then went over to Tesla's inventions after later deliberation when they found Tesla's to be better overall. Demonstrations like the infamous execution of the elephant in public using Tesla's AC to kill the elephant to prove Tesla's invention was dangerous, as opposed to Edison's DC which was 'safer.'

While Tesla did make a considerable amount of money through his patents, a lot of that money went to fund more of his own experiments. He fell into relative obscurity after his death due to the fact that he really didn't put himself out there into the world on the scale that Edison did, and so the world relegated Tesla to obscurity while Edison was much more widely-known, with Tesla mostly being known for the 'War of Currents' in the public eye.
