Amazing how people think it's pure coincidence the bell curve of this game is whack

Lets go over this.

This is an unnatural bell-curve. Flat out.

Every other game on that list (even different genre's) have a natural bell curve. The median is the average and takes up the most part of the community.

(Its important to note, heroes of the storm is a little different because it underwent MASSIVE mmr placement changes not too long ago, so the results are a little scewed because its recovering from placing people too high)

Youre supposed to start in the middle of the ladder. If you start at the bottom of the ladder, you have nowhere to fall to. That's already very bad.

If you have nowhere to fall to, youre placed in an environment with people of drastically different skill levels. Someone could be really good, someone could be really bad, or someone could be very average. But because of the environment you were placed in, those baddies don't leave because they have nowhere else to go, and those good/average guys cant leave because of the inconsistencies in skill levels in games.

This isn't an excuse, this is a fact. It's not natural to have the VAST majority (not a small difference) of players in the bottom of the ladder.

This game is the odd man out. Not everything else. All the other games even in different genre's show they have a loose natural bellcurve.

To say that the system isn't partially rigged is naive and stupid. You're looking at pure evidence that shows THIS is the odd man out, and you're telling me "No everyone else is the odd man out" just because Riot tells you so.

this does not mean that everything is rigged against you. It means that important key features were designed and prohibit things from laying in natural order.

You know why its called natural? Because if left be, it will eventually revert to that state. It means that Riot is actively trying to keep things this way.

This game DOES have a forced 50% winrate. No, it doesn't mean that every other game youll get an instant loss, its an algorithm.

Wanna know something funny? Not a single person in this game (who wasn't literally boosting) has 58+% winrate with over 500 ranked games played. Not a single one.

But there are plenty of them in other games. Hell even I as a master player in heroes of the storm have a solid 58% winrate.

The system is DESIGNED to work against you from the start. It places you at the bottom of the ladder in an inconsistent environment, then turns around and decides you haven't lost enough games lately. Its so blatantly obvious it's disgusting.

Players are naturally consistent in their play. It's how the human mind works. They will typically have the same behavior, mistakes, and playstyles across almost all games without outside influence like drugs because it's ingrained into your being. Your behavior and patterns are part of your preference and personality. This means that when you win 12 games in a row, then magically start losing 12 games in a row, you are probably not the main cause of it. You play consistently most of the time, so there should be no reason for such a drastic change in results.

And once again, no other games do this without an inherently obvious answer. I do not face massive winstreaks then massive loss streaks in Heroes of the Storm. I lose 9 games in a row playing Kel Thuzad because I fucking suck at him, but playing but onetricking someone Im great at will not pretty much ever result in 9 wins then 9 losses ESPECIALLY not as frequent as they are here.

This doesn't mean that you are utterly hopeless to change, You can still climb if you work hard enough. But to say that you are the ONLY factor in making a climb is naive and stupid.

That's not "whack" or anything. They just have the statistical norm at Silver, as opposed to Gold. That's like the only difference

You didn't even look at the graph lol

Even if that was true, Silver makes up by and far the largest amount of space (even if it was solely the average rank which its not supposed to) which is already a red flag.

Because riot wants you to stay that way.

You don't actually start at the bottom in League. Unless they've changed it, you start at 1200 MMR. You have a lot of room to drop. Bronze 5 is probably like 500 MMR.

Hibeki2 votes

You start at about Silver V when you should start about Gold III

k well that's far from the bottom. As soon as you start playing games your MMR will either go up or down.

And why do you think starting at Gold III would be an improvement? The underlying MMR system would be the same and players would distribute in MMR in the same way.

Hibeki2 votes

how is literally 1 division from the lowest rank in the game not the bottom of the ladder?

ModWulf Helhammer2 votes

Because it's set up that that level is the average?

Hibeki1 votes

Thats the problem? Youre setting up the average to be the bottom of the ladder?

HMMMMM

Because it's 1 step up from the bottom? lmao why did you ask a self-answering question?

And just so you understand, MMR determines which opponents you are matched against. Rank does not. A player can drop all the way to 0 MMR even that that is far below whatever the average of bronze is.

silver 5 is the "average" in league. I'm pretty sure almost 50% of players are between silver 5 and bronze 2.

Ok so what is the problem with the average skill level being labeled as silver?

Zven has a 57% on 400+ games. To be more specific about 460 games.

Is he going to lose his next 60 games in a row?

Nah. Probably not. Good counterpoint!

He has 256 wins and 192 losses. / 448 total.

256/448=57% if he lost the next 62 games, 256/500=51.2%

To maintain where he's at, 35 of the next 62 games has to be wins.

Sp33d Zer01 votes

So you think he will lose his next 62 games?

I don't follow e-sports avidly so I have no oppinion; I was simply correcting the person's math that I quoted. He said since he's @ 57% now, if he wins any of the 62 matches ahead, he would defy what the OP stated as the highest win % now which is =<57%

Toxicate131 votes

Well, this fucked up curve at least makes me feel good about myself for being gold, which is above average in league

Mobile Phone1 votes

So you dont like the fact the medium in league is silver instead of silver-gold. ok. 40% being silver in hots is ok compared to 48%.

Yes everyone usually has a 50% winrate but wanna know something? If i played like 700 games with a 50% winrate starting at (lets just use silver 2 for now) I would end up mid to high gold at the end of the season. 50% is still climbing,

I personally have played 400 games with a 53% winrate on bard starting at silver 3 and got to plat 3, dropping to so yes 50% is good.

hots diamond players got halved because of how stupid it was.

Hibeki1 votes

First if you could read a graph, youd see hots is 30% to leagues 50%.

Second, I already mentioned hots is recovering from a huge mmr placement shift done late last year.

All we need to see is LP gains be almost nothing if you are at negative win rate overall. Also tie LP gains and losses heavily to the mastery system. You get a good grade you get good LP or very little lost. This would help sort out the game and encourage people to play their best in all games.

Well, if most of trolls happen to know "bell curve", we wouldn't suffer from the matching quality even if it's designed to be so.
