Its official boys, the Reddit has admitted to fascism and censorship

Related, I made a thread about gameplay and how Riot needs transparancy. This is directly relevant to this board.

This is my favorite image, in reply to a respectful threat about transparency: https://imgur.com/v8AePqP

So, theyve admitted to textbook fascism.

Why is this important, or relevant to this board? It means this board is the only form of non-controlled criticism. They've admitted that the reddit has unironically become the echo-chamber they so proclaim these boards to be.

The reddit is what Riot consults the most for direct PR, and I'm not going to stand it. If this is where they get directly warped information then Im just leaving this game. Boards are treated terribly, basically ignored (outside of meddler gameplay thoughts) and ironically labelled the things their main feedback source is. Please note that in the subreddit rules, 'directly mentioning or addressing riot' is not actually there.

This makes transparency all the more important. Riot, if you're listening, and want to make change, abandon reddit completely.

It's very clear and no longer alleged that its pure fascism, and the source of feedback you are getting is not actually real feedback. Its controlled substance.

This board needs to be the main source of feedback. While its very ranty, people are very much upset, but thats because their opinion is literally being censored or labelled as the typical 'REE' you hear all the time

And if you don't, well I'm leaving this game. It's very clear that this game is in fact dying, and not one singular game is going to kill it. But unless you change, bye bye league of legends

To this day I still don't understand why Riot would ever post information about their game on a place that isn't their official website. It's lunacy.

Sure, I get it, it's a 'safe space' for them, but can you imagine any other company doing that; think of Microsoft posting announcements about their upcoming products over on some random gamer website or Coca-Cola unveiling a new product exclusively on instagram. Why not use your official website?

I know, I know, they make a billion dollars a year, who am I to question them, etc etc...

As for Reddit... it's a fucking cesspool over there, nothing but fanboys and e$ports garbage.

What about here? you see plenty of Riot boot-lickers here too. Down-voting the hell out of a post just because it might be against Riot.

Arakadia31 votes

Could also be because the post is unconstructive, dick behavior, or just bad.

Sp33d Zer023 votes

No! The boards are 100% rational and not at all a giant circle jerk that avoids half the data presented to make bold claims

You dropped this: /s

Saianna7 votes

In most cases its simplier: Whiteknighting anything that is against something you like. And because it's VERY easy to link it with "dick behavior" or "bad" (cause everything you dislike is dickish/bad), you can easily find simple arguments for why to downvote it.

Velasan4 votes

Well, isn't that the point of downvoting? You don't have to downvote something because it's illogical, it only means you didn't like it. Can be for any reason.

Votes don't make something relevant or logical. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, tell you what the masses are thinking by how they feel. Keyword on "feel."

JustaNewb3 votes

the Reddit is not owned or moderated by RIOT officially.

Hibeki13 votes

officially is the keyword. It probably is, but if rioters were mods, then the shady behavior would be clear cut evidence directly representative of them. Thats why they dont.

JustaNewb3 votes

So now it's a conspiracy theory? rofl. Dude.

Hibeki6 votes

You have officially drank the riot kool-aid if you think that riot is the only company ever made that doesnt indulge in shady business practice.

And this is ignoring the fact that riot is owned by Tencent, one of the most shady gaming coporations out there

GigglesO7 votes

That way they can say that it isn't an ecco chamber, anything that they don't want to hear (actual criticism) just automatically gets filtered out.

How can anything be found wrong if all the comments that are negative get filtered out.

"we can't be doing anything wrong, there are no negative comments on reddit"

JustaNewb56 votes

Censorship? Yes. Fascism? No.

The Ecdysiast29 votes

Yep. And despite this fact, if you go to Riot support they recommend you go to the boards, wherein reds will recommend you create a support ticket. And round and round it goes, never mentioning the fact the only place they really look is reddit.

I just had the same thing happen to me!, I had a red recommend I contact player support. They said they'd transfer me to the Game Department because they'd know more... and then the game department transferred me to the bug department who just told me "How to report in-game bugs" and automatically closed my case... without even addressing said issue.

What in gods name was the point of being bounced between two departments that had no idea; only to transfer me to an automated response on how to report my issue in game... when I asked a question... and didn't even report a bug.

Eedat29 votes

I literally JUST had the same thing happen to me. I messaged the mods. Will post response.

Edit: been over an hour. Still no response.

EDIT: Took them over 3 hours to respond and I went to bed before then.

Not relevant to League of Legends. Our relevance guidelines are here.

Thread was talking about LoL YouTubers' and streamers' content. Somehow that is not relevant to LoL?

Melledoneus16 votes

When moderators just don't respond to legitimate concerns, it means the system is lax and that they feel no obligation to.

In other words, they don't give a damn about your complaints. And that's just awful, in my personal opinion.

VICHEL CHAOS29 votes

Textbook fascism? Are you insane? I'm not entirely agreeing with all of RIOT's policies, in particular some late balance decisions, but you don't have a clue of what fascism is when you think some moderation to avoid harass is textbook fascism... Good bye by the way, hope you find a game where the developer team do not execute protestors publicly while false propaganda is mass distributed and political prisoners are sentenced to death.

Hibeki9 votes

Literally everything you said is either wrong or can directly be applied to this game. All the controversial bans recently for directly criticizing (hell, take a look at cowsep) along with the entire reddit being a propaganda machine.

In another comment, I literally stapled the dictionary definition of fascism, and replaced the nouns (government, people, authority) with their respective people here and what do you know, it fit perfectly!

Doctor Dyment18 votes

I don't... I don't think you know what fascism is. Like, at all. Riot's decision is wrong and out of touch yeah, but calling them fascist? You're way off the spectrum man.

Hibeki3 votes

Im not callng riot fascist. Im calling the subreddit and their moderators fascist.

JustaNewb6 votes

Fascism is a POLITICAL ideology. Literally. That is all it is. It is an ideology and methodology that only applies to Politics.

Hibeki2 votes

Nationalism is not just political my dude, its also social and economic systems.

JustaNewb6 votes

Nationalism IS NOT fascism. Jesus christ dude, imma leave you to do you.

Cocho11 votes

They want posts that address the community. Not a bunch of rito plz posts.

I just see it as quality control.

If you posted,

"Janna is OP rito wtf u thinkin"

Then it would get deleted. But if you posted,

"What do you guys think about janna's state? I think she is too strong"

That wouldnt get deleted. It's saying the same thing.

Hibeki37 votes

There is a disturbing lack of questioning decisions on the subreddit, and all those that do get deleted.

This wasnt a shitpost saying 'riot please'. It addressed riot directly asking for transparancy.

Saying 'you cannot criticise or make a post about riot games' is literal censorship.

GayFluffyUnicorn11 votes

Then you actually look at reddit and realize there are four pages without any sort of criticism in any direction. And it doesn't stop at four pages.

Keti11 votes

reddit just doesn't want to be inundated with mindless QQ posts like the boards are. There's plenty of criticism of riot and there's multiple threads tearing them apart for basically not nerfing janna.

2nd Chance11 votes

Hey OP, might I contribute this thread about how bullshit Reddit is that I made?

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/general-discussion/xkGEve6a-hey-riot-you-wanna-know-one-of-the-many-reasons-why-we-hate-you-using-reddit-over-your-own-boards

Good stuff calling them out, got some poor use of certain words there, but good stuff nonetheless

Riot, stop prioritizing using a very poorly managed 3rd party website over your own damn official forums for feedback

ModPeriscope10 votes

Hey,

It's 2 years old, but I did find this Ask Riot post that specifically talked about how they interact with the online community.

Hibeki7 votes

I appreciate you going through the effort to find it, but that's not very applicable nowadays. But its just not the case anymore. Reddit is far and away the source they listen and communicate with more than the boards.

Besides the meddler gameplay thoughts, Rioter's dont really make many posts on the boards other than to quell rumors on the boards going around. Thats not my idea of communication.

Maybe it used to be better (I dont remember it being THAT much better), but now its definitely the reddit they listen to.

Skorch9 votes

Not being able to target riot =/= suppression of opposition/fascism.

I have not seen a SINGLE post on the boards directed at a Rioter that wasnt at least SOMEWHAT none of their business.

The league boards are to discuss LEAGUE OF LEGENDS, the GAME, RIOT has made. Not RIOT themselves.

I saw 4 posts on the front page openly attacking rioters.

Yes saying a Rioter shouldnt be doing their current job, aka most likely under, demotion or firing, is an attack.

Saying that they cant do their job because their insert rank is an attack.

Saying that X Rioter MADE A MISTAKE =/= an attack. but almost ever single other mention about a rioter is an attack."

Dont want Riot to look at reddit more than the boards? Dont want that rule to exist? How about we dont attack the Rioters that show up here, so they wont need mods to plain protect them, just to get them to visit their site hmm?

Hibeki7 votes

I had a thought, should we create our own league of legends subreddit? Where its actually moderated fairly?

Lower size means it wont need heavy moderation, and Esports wont be the entire front page.

Divewing7 votes

Correct me if I'm wrong (I genuinely have no idea), but aren't the subreddit mods unaffiliated with Riot?

RedPannda6 votes

BREAKING NEWS: The sky is blue!!!

Why does anyone act surprised by this? This has been known for a long time. Leddit has always been the echo chamber where riot goes to get pats on the back for doing a good job. The best part is when they link to it here telling us to go to reddit to discuss things and then they shadow delete your content.

You cannot reason with a feral animal, trying to will only get you eaten. Best to take the black pill and move on, they will only hurt you every time.

Examples of Fascism according to the Boards: Mussolini, Hitler, Franco, Reddit, etc

Snowplosion5 votes

I don't think you know what fascism is

Hong Kong Annie5 votes

This is nothing new. I remember people complaining about riot not listening to the boards back when they were still the forums. In fact the whole reason we have the current boards is because riot wanted it to be more like reddit

Quiet Dude4 votes

Fascism is kind of a knee jerk reaction. Don't get me wrong, I think the League reddit boards and their mods are ass-backwards asinine, built entirely on a foundation of circle jerking. I think it's a breeding ground for some of the most toxic players.

But calling is fascism is silly.

Vekkna4 votes

The reddit sub is literally unreadable. You have to scroll through pages and pages of posts to find anything related to playing the game instead of watching the game. And when you do, there are 1000+ posts and you end up yelling into the void.

Oh, and no red tracker.

Anatera3 votes

Censorship happens when the people involved are absolutely convinced they're doing the right thing, despite the mountainous amounts of evidence to the contrary. In fact, it's the evidence itself that makes them want to censor things, because they can't have a dialog, otherwise they'll be proven wrong. And that's the worst thing ever, isn't it? Being proven wrong.

Riot is no different. They believe they're doing the right thing. And they can't have players proving them wrong. That would distract them.

TEA Nietzsche 3 votes

That is exaggeration and Hitler exaggerated. Stop the Nazi propaganda.

It means this board is the only form of non-controlled criticism

A few months ago, mods made this big thing about removing posts attacked rioters, it doesn't really seem enforced tho?

Hibeki10 votes

Theres a difference between respectful discussion and atatcking. I think its fair. The boards dont want the attacks either.

Saying 'X employee shouldnt design anymore' is criticism. Saying 'X employee is a butt' is attacking.

Well technically it wouldn't be non-controlled criticism then.

But its not enforced, so the boards is the closest thing to it. I mean just recently the top boards post was about firing the current riot team and bringing back the old one. With nothing else in the post.

Hibeki4 votes

It is non controlled. Attacking someone isn't criticism. Just like in court or any other discussion based environment, that kind of thing is kept out.

JustaNewb1 votes

NO WHERE DOES IT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT CRITICISM.

Hibeki6 votes

Directly addressing someone is a vital part of criticism dude

Both are attacks on the person themselves than their argument or their "poorly" designed work. You're not critiquing their work, you're critiquing their line of work.
