Are abilities that make a champion "untargetable" fair?

Not worded perfectly but i'm talking about abilities like Maokai or MasterYi where the champion can't be damaged, can't be targeted, and generally can't be interacted with WHILE still interacting with opponents. Should these sorts of abilities be changed such that if someone reacts fast enough and smart enough they can in fact stop the ability from completing via CC or some other form interaction?

Now i'm not suggesting these sorts of abilities be super slow and easy to interrupt, like Yi can still zip around, but if i can land an AOE stun in the area he's in while he's dashing shouldn't that stop his ability from continuing? I suppose this idea could be expanded to other Dash based abilities that take effect even if the champion should have been stunned/ knocked out of their ability.

I think that's the point of their abilities in the first place, in a sense. That's their 'outplay' button. Most of the time when I see Maokai's use it, it's to avoid some sort of CC or ability. Same for Yi, but also frequently to stick to a target. They have to time their untargetability to dodge whatever incoming ability or CC might keep them from doing their job.

Yes its fair. Their abilities are balanced around it. If they dodged your CC with it, you got outplayed.

the purpose of the abilities is to dodge.

it's up to the user that they have to react fast enough to use it to dodge, not you. your job is to either use your cc quick enough so they can't react, or bait them out and use your stuff after.

I disagree there. Sure there are some champions with abilities who make them untargetable and it's meant to dodge (looking at you Fizz ) but for a champion to be uninteractable by opponents while still interacting with opponents that just seems stupid and wrong.

Like chances are i'm not going to be able to hit yi with a skillshot if he's zipping around between 3-5 different targets, but the fact that there is a range where he can alpha strike through my CC projectile and basically "cease to exist" for a second, while still slapping me and a couple other targets upside the head just comes off as stupid and wrong. You want to make it so i can't click on them, sure that's fine, but if i already had an ability going towards them it shouldn't fail to hit NOR should they be immune to AOE abilities that go off in the area they are occupying while using their ability.

i would say fizz is way more bullshit in that regard than yi.

yi Qs someone and then has to hit at least 3 to 4 time if not more depending on if he went in with double strike or has Essence reaver or something like that. I know where he will be and I can reliably hit him with my cc.

fizz, on the other hand, can jump in while still having another mobility spell, which can make hitting your skillshots way harder. then he uses his hourglass, waits for his cd´s, and it´s the same shit all over again.

not going to lie, i prefer fizz. i at least can see him to know where he is and where he will be when the ability ends.

fair point. I guess it somewhat comes down to preference. Since I play yi a lot more than fizz it´s a lot easier for me to predict his movements and timing even when he is not visible.

"Fair" is very subjective, what's your criteria?

Master Yi would also be butt if he was targetable
