To all those complaining about games ending too soon...

I haven't experienced this at all, in fact Its fairly easy to drag games out longer if need be, but once you hit the 35min marker things get tougher because the drag / baron obj's double down and everything heats up.

But to all these complaints about games ending at or before 20min, have you tried not being such a debbie downer? Maybe if you stayed positive you'd be able to get back into the game.

I haven't experienced this at all

That's because in lower ELOs games tend to last long because neither team knows how to end the game.

I've heard people not playing league as much because games take very long compared to other games, so even if the statements are remotely true they're not even necessarily bad.

Good for you? Games are significantly shorter now compared to what they used to be though.

Season 5 average game length taken from patches 5.1 to 5.6 gave average game times for high elo of 31-33 minutes.

season 7 average game length from league of graphs for high elo are currently 27 to 29 minutes.

Season 5 is probably the worst season to draw conclusions from, cuz cinderhulk meta

that data is from patches 5.1-5.6 which is mostly before cinderhulk was even released.

so four less minutes?? im sorry, but what exactly is the problem with this?

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

That's 1/8th of the game time gone, which is not nothing. So when you say you don't see games ending sooner that's just your anecdotal evidence, which is not accurate to the trend that is actually happening.

EDIT:

but once you hit the 35min marker

Games aren't lasting that long. They weren't even lasting that long in season 5.

Okay lets say games tend to end 4 min earlier than they did before.

How much cs can u get in 4 min to catch up to the other team? Any team with a decent lead will know how to zone you from farming if you're not open to continually feeding them.

The same thing was true in S5 so what's your point?

The shortness of games is irrelevant and pointless to complain about. People are just making bad mistakes and they're actually turning out to carry more weight than before.

Before you could a couple towers ahead of an enemy team and still be considered behind because 1 bad teamfight. Whats the strategy in that?

Valuable mistakes IMO are healthy to any competitive game, be careful with your decisions that you and your team make because even on a 35s respawn timer the game could end.

When games end earlier then certain champions whose entire identity is to scale into the late game become completly irrelevant. Different champions are strong at different phases of the game so when those phases of the game carry less weight then that directly affects balance. Some people want to be able to teamfight, but gold differences at the same point in the game are larger and teamfights are no longer even at all. If you play a teamfighting tank then you don't get to ever have a powerful phase of the game. If you play a stacking champion then you don't get to scale into the late game because the game is over before you scale up. If you play a farming carry like yi xin or udyr right now (i'll have to see how the jungle exp changes affect this) then there is nothing you can do because you've lost control over your jungle before you get the items that you need to affect the game.

Turns out when you shorten the game you affect the balance of entire classes of champions and people who play those champions have something to say about that.

Okay so this is where a matter of opinion take place, would you rather a late game meta or a early - mid game meta??

Personally i don't and didn't have fun for the past 8 years waiting 40-50 minutes of farming.

Well we don't have either right now, its just an early game meta.

waiting 40-50 minutes of farming.

As i linked and showed you, games were never that long. You can continue to strawman by exaggerating the truth but a fair assessment would be that we don't want games that are too long or too short.

Teemodanegro1 votes

Lol, im doing exactly as others are doing, by saying games end before 20 minutes. Games used to be 50 minutes long.

Also...

Well we don't have either right now, its just an early game meta.

We didn't have a choice to end the game earlier back then either...

Games used to be 50 minutes long.

No they weren't. I've shown you that and your commitment to lying about what i've already proven shows this conversation is over.

Riot used to have a description with Summoner's rift game length - it would say that games on average take 40 minutes. Considering game length average is around 28 minutes that's a pretty huge difference and it affects quite a lot of champions including Marksman which is one of the main reason that the whole class is currently in a really bad state.

Teemodanegro1 votes

Marksman are bad because AP can scale faster than them, I don' think this has anything to do with game time averages. This is what we're used to it being, this doesn't mean it needs to stay that way. Maybe ADCs need to scale better into mid game?
