Im just tired of Thresh.

Weasel Kensei··109 votes·5,859 views

Not just because hes in every game, but because now people dont even know how to play unless you have multiple seconds of stun to peel for them, or a free kill hook skill-shot to get them fed.

He is so META at this point that if you get anything else its looked at by some as a troll pick. Im harassed if I pick Zilean in champ select, and if we lose its because I picked Zilean... I pick Zilean because hes good against Vayne who is also in every game, but for different reasons than Thresh.

Dosnt matter though, cause people are so used to being baby sat by Thresh fok-ton O' peel, or served up free kills by is kit they dont know how to play if he isnt there with them, they play the same way... and its your fault they did it because YOU didnt get Thresh.

He hasnt just overshadowed the other supports at this point, hes become the bot-lane META in so many peoples minds that they cant play without him anymore.

Sure some people remember how to play with other supports around, but honestly most dont, and its a clear point in my opinion that Thresh is still too good if hes this popular and people cant play without him. He is literally a crutch people expect to be there for them at this point.

Thresh can't heal

LankPants9 votes

Nore can Janna unless she blows a long CD.

SelflessTeammate4 votes

It's not about the heal, for goodness' sake. Anyone who thinks her ult is about the heal and not stepping between their fragile carry and the rest of their team to put them in an impossible position is just so, so wrong.

You can also use it to disengage people over cliffs and such, like if you wanna use it on someone above a dragon or baron just to launch them into the pit. It really is a hell of a utility spell. The heal is absolutely nothing compared to its other uses.

Neither can Zyra/Karma/Annie/Nautilus/Lux/Leona/Morgana/Lux/Tahm/Blitzcrank

KingWanahakalugi2 votes

Well...it was a joke, but someone reported it and Rito thought best to remove it.

PaladinNO1 votes

I found your way of putting it very funny! :D For some reason, with the way you wrote it, it reminded me of Teemo Like, "what would Teemo do?".

How exactly did you write it? It was something like "I like to watch them squirm as the last light of life leaves their eyes". summoner 14

Very poetic - me likey. :)

KingWanahakalugi1 votes

Well what would Teemo do DID cross my mind when I wrote it, but it was something along those lines. I could see how the way I chose to word it might offend someone, so I respect Rito's decision to remove it.

What you forgot was to add `""´ to make it specific it was a quote or a joke. Otherwise it appears as being your words and your own opinion, and that can be interpreted as offensive.

I love playing Thresh, but I can't disagree. He is just way too good at what he does. Generally a champion is great at something and has some lackluster things. What is Thresh's lackluster part, damage? Who cares when you can CC someone for an eternity or save people from some completely BS situation that they deserve to die in. Just give him a drawback to his lantern so there is a risk to him fishing people out. Let enemies take that thing so he might have to think about using it rather than just chucking it in. You let enemies take Bard's magical journey, time to make the change Riot.

maikokk3 votes

its not just his damage. he is as fragile as a minion. then again, that doesnt matter too much when you run health seals, armor marks and quints and MR glyphs because you dont need to do damage to be relevant.

It Hertz When IP2 votes

Enemies can take Bard's journey because it's an unlimited travel option; Thresh's lantern can only be used once. I don't like playing against Thresh, and even I know that such a change would plummet the fun value of playing him to unacceptably low levels.

Truly Prideful2 votes

Yeah, I understand that. That was the first thing that came to mind and I would love to see a few Naut special deliveries to his team. I just want to see some ability to stop the lantern. Give it a three hit system like barrels so he needs good timing? Maybe make it a little better to block? Currently it's really difficult to body block like you're supposed to be able to. I've been able to grab it with 3 enemies trying to stop me after a GA or Zhonya's effect.

Honestly would just like to see a better solution for playing against it. Most of the time it's difficult to hit the perfect CC to pull them out of it, it's harder to stop than a bunch of ultimates.

ValyrianBlade12 votes

Well, I'll start by admitting that Thresh is simply overtuned, his kit is overloaded, and he could use a real nerf. Most preferably, put some sort of delay or some ability to reliably interrupt his darn lantern.

I don't care about win rates or what anyone says on the matter really. His lantern is just OP as it allows way too much safety. I can deal with his hook, flay, and ultimate. His lantern (like Tahm's consume) is just stupidly annoying though.

To the point though: I actually hate having a thresh support (as an ADC main). I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I typically win all of my early trades as an ADC. I typically dramatically outfarm my opponents as well in the early game. I use this to build an early lead even without kills and use that to snowball the game.

So what happens when I have a thresh support? His engage is unreliable. Sure, if he gets lucky and lands a bunch of hooks I love it, but in general every time he misses a hook that's like 20 seconds where pressure is against me bot lane and the enemy support gets to harass me for free. I don't like it. I'd much rather have a Leona or Braum who can engage more reliably and still be relevant if they miss the skillshot. And I say gets lucky because, outside of the unusual scenario where the enemy gets in a really bad position relative to the wall and minions, landing a hook is as much about the Thresh player being skilled as it is about his opponent being unskilled at dodging it.

The other thing that happens is Relic shield. Thresh needs to actually last hit minions to get the procs. With a thresh support you need the healing on the proc because he offers no other sustain and as I mentioned has an unreliable all-in. Most thresh's seem to only have about a 60% CS rate trying to execute the relic shield unless you set up a minion for them that the wave isn't attacking. So I do this (which costs me time that I could be harassing) or I let him try to time his auto on the cannon and make me miss 40% of all cannon minions and a lot of melees to boot. I don't like it. When I'm regularly hitting 90% CS in lane I don't want a support trying to last hit, it really throws me off a LOT. Again, a Braum or Leona is going to get that last hit long before there's minion threat and I miss nothing. Much preferred.

I also prefer to play against Thresh over Braum / Leona or even Soraka / Sona / Janna / Taric (the former 2 because I win most trades and their sustain sort of kills that, Janna is safer during laning phase, and Taric has a heal and a targeted stun). That said, I prefer going up against pretty much any of these champions than Thresh or Tahm Kench in the late game as both of these champions offer their allies way too much safety.

One of the worst feelings in League is finally catching the fed enemy out of position and almost killing them, only for a Thresh lantern (or TK consume) to get them out to safety, when you KNOW they weren't counting on that (i.e. the Thresh was far away when you got the pick and simply made it there before you managed the kill).

That happens when your ultimate is a slow moving, long range engage style power in a world with Yasuo and Braum in every single game, usually on the same team.

InivtesPreeze6 votes

Thresh needs to be nerfed. He has too much available to him in his kit. You can't have all of that available to one champion with no drawback. He has zero drawbacks. Kit is overloaded.

ElegantDoge6 votes

Overloaded kit make it so popular.Just like Yasuo.

Caytheles4 votes

Pretty sure that is some Salt overreaction (with all due respect) Their are many better supports than thresh, i would know because i play Support every...damn...day. Thresh included ofcourse. But i would prefer Alistar or Leona sometimes, Soraka and Sona, Blitzcrank and Bard. All supports have something about them that make them "That Support" so to say thresh is Meta is just idiotic (no offense).

Battlecast Sona3 votes

But Thresh IS meta. Because he synergizes and can help ANY lane, against ANY pick. If they pick a heavy all-in or a counter to your ADC? He has lantern, box, and flay to disengage with hook to catch people off guard or punish attempted tower dives/set up for gank assistance. Winning your lane or have high synergy with your partner? Land hooks or, better yet, just run up and watch them flee from the flay->death sentence combo. There isn't really any strong pick that hard counters Thresh due to the utility he offers outside of his hook - he's basically better Blitzcrank in a lot of ways because, even if you never hit a hook, you still offer a lot of safety to your team and utility to teamfights.

Caytheles1 votes

Every support is meta... they all have something to offer. If thresh was indeed the meta then i would only play thresh and not other supports.... buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut i pick accordingly to what we need. it is all about manipulating his movements and using them to your advantage... that is literally what a support does other than babysitt the Adc

Kitten of Evil3 votes

That's not really what meta means. Meta means the common things you see in League of Legends games as a whole -- common picks, items, match-ups.

Anivia supp is actually not bad. Just have to watch mana. And you would be surprised how many people forget that you have egg.... all of them.... they all forget about the egg...

There's not a single reason why he should be ranged with the kit he has, and that lamp shouldn't give a shield as if what it does is not enough already for a single skill, gotta give him the shield because why not.

Cynika3 votes

Omg I totally agree with OP, not just about thresh but hard engage supports in general. People really don't know how to play with anything that doesn't serve them up an easy kill. I picked up soraka recently and most people bitch when I pick her. Or when we get to lane they shy away from trading, or will let cs go because they don't realize I can easily heal them back up.

I main Thresh and I know people gonna hate me for doing so, but i really do like him, because you have so many options. I just wanted to tell you that yes he is overload, but Riot just released a champion that completely bodies him.

TahmKench Literally all you have to do is eat your adc if they get hooked, it's that simple Nautilus I also think he is very viable against thresh since in the early lvl he can kill your adc and since his pull puts him on top of the adc they can't grab lantern Another good tip is get a pick ward and if u see thresh trying to lantern some one put it on top of the lantern and they cant grab it

So yeah he can be countered, and yes even i am tired of people taking him away from me ):

I don't even own Thresh. I don't like playing him for the sole reason that I'm sick of seeing him (With some exceptions like Vi, I don't like playing very-high-play-rate champs, which is a short list, but it's still there). But I support all the time, and damned well, if I may say so.

Bard is all you need. Ever. Didn't even think I'd like the guy at first, in fact I used to think he just wasn't meant for solo queue and just organized team games. But then he went on free rotation, and I was like, Yeah he's kinda fun, but I dunno how useful he really is before I at least Rank 5 him in unranked...A few weeks (and a lot of game-losing missed ults) later and I'm playing him as my main ranked support. And I literally have people threaten to dodge if I pick him, because you're damned right I've seen other Brads, and I've seen how bad they are, too.

And you gotta go all Khan on them, and when they ask, "Why don't you just pick Thresh?" you respond, "Because I am...Better." They say, "At what?" And you respond, while the countdown's happening, "Everything."

And, you know, there's always Taric (seriously, do not underestimate this guy as a high-damage, high-defense anti-Vayne weapon. Anyone who dares think he isn't any good is so beyond wrong if they pick someone who can be shut down near-instantly with a really good point-and-click stun) when you're too drunk to make proper portals for your team, or ult correctly without missing and hitting someone on your own team you really didn't want to. Zyra is still just plain underrated for a "secondary AP carry" support, but I'll happily play her too sometimes. I'm kind of amazed that so few people play her anymore, she's still pretty damage-crazy, and is a just-as-good alternative to Annie.

Zyra is actually a counter to Annie since Zyra outranges Annie. She actually does a lot more than Annie can do in terms of damage, zone control, free wards with seeds, better waveclear, etc. She's just harder to play and less tanky. I played a game today as Zyra support with Vayne adc vs Twitch and Alistar.

Vayne said, "I want to play safe."

I said, "Ok", "We win every 2v2 though"

Vayne, "Are you sure?"

I said, "100% sure." I wanted to say, "I'm fucking Zyra, I could easily 1v1 Twitch early game. Since it's Mumu jungle there's virtually no chance he'll come to gank the lane from level 1-3. We should push Twitch's shit in." But, ya know, people have that ladder anxiety and I don't want to force my adc to do anything they're not comfortable with because they likely suck if they want to play safe. We only moderately won lane. The OP is right, people just don't like playing with or against things they don't commonly play against.
