What is so unreasonable of 30-45 minute games RIOT?

It seems you either balance games to last 50 - 1h+ or balance them so they are decided even before 20 minutes. Why the extremes? Cant we just have that normal 30-45 minute game time expectation where one team's players are not just completely out of the game because the other team has snowballed super hard and way to fast to even contest a minion and where 30+ minute games are not just decided after another 10-15 straight minutes of passively avoiding confrontation by both teams only to have 1 team fight decide the game since respawn timers are so long.

You realize that if respawn timers were shortened at 30+ minute games, everyone would respawn faster, be able to defend their base after losing a teamfight, thus making the game drag on beyond the hour mark. You want hour long games?

even before they increased respawn timers games rarely lasted longer then 50 min.

most of the time they were finished at the 40 minute mark if your team carried the advantage.

yes i want 2012/13 back.

100 kills both sides 125 mins, someone has to afk soon? next team fight wins!

its the players that want short timers that are fkin cuasing the dmg creep to begin with? stats arent even chaging much its the fuckin masterys....

i want people like you to leave the game i loved alone. go play sumthin else thats flashy, the people before me apparently liked the average game time otherwise it wouldent be around for scrubs to ruin.

this games lost a ton of stratagy becuase people just get instagibbed. only time i dont get instagibbed is 30 armor 12 mr and mainly defensive masterys.

lets face it, Gray screened after just getting back to lane cuase of one mistake earlier IS not a fun game to play.... were losing actual new players by the 1000s cuase deaths too unavoidable.

kill the fkin game for your flashy plays... i dont even fkin know why i cared enough to type this it will just get ignored.

This is a post I made 4 days ago (so there are a few more recent games that aren't counted in here). That poster was complaining that all games are over at 20min, so obviously I'd split the 40+ minute group to 40-45, 45-50, and 50+ for this (which was all in 40-45 except 1 that was 50+):

This is the distribution of my last 30 ranked games:

<20: 0 20-25: 4 25-30:6 30-35: 4 35-40: 9 40+: 7

That's 10 of 30 games at under 30 minutes. Over half of my games over 35 minutes.

Now if we consider this to your point, that's 19 of 30 games at 30-45min. Over 60%.

I've made posts like this in the past. Every time I analyze my most recent 20-30 games, and whether they're normals or ranked games the same conclusions comes of it. There's a good distribution with most games in the 30-45min mark. Very few extremely short (<25min) games and very few extremely long (>50min) games.

So either: a) you guys are doing something wrong to get games of these lengths. You play a "snowball or feed" strategy that results in you either getting a lot of kills and carrying in 25min or feeding like mad and losing in 25min. Then your 50min games are where you feed but an ally (mostly myself it feels like) tries to carry against your lane opponent and pushes in to a super long game (that we eventually lose because it doesn't matter that I can out play them when you've already given them a dozen kills). b) I play too passively when ahead and don't end as early as I could, and stall out lost causes for no reason. Except I've got a good number of fast wins and a good number of comebacks, so I don't find this likely. TBF I don't often surrender, so perhaps you guys just surrender too easily. Even winning 10% of matches you otherwise would have surrendered can turn a 48% win rate falling player to a 52% win rate climbing player (assuming you surrender in 40% of matches). c) There's a difference in Elo / you don't know when you should fight. So when you're a little behind you take a losing fight and it puts you farther behind, instead of looking for picks to catch up with or just stalling.

After having my second "Battle of the Teemoes" Summoners' Rift game this year in Normals, I am inclined to think that you might be onto something.

Why the extremes?

Because negativity bias causes forum users to misrepresent games and warp what sounds like the average game length to be very different from the actual average game length.

It use to be advertised that SR game's length was estimated to be between 30-40 minutes

http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/infographics/patch-7-1-infographics wow look at that 66% of games fall into the range you describe with the most common game length being smack-dab in the middle at 35 minutes.
