Penetration items are breaking the game.

I just played a game as Taric vs a full ad comp. We drew the game out for lulz since their team was all ad and we built all armor

I had 501 armor and 3384 hp and was shreded insanely fast by a Tryndamere.

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1769579255/51299623 - So you can see the items we had

Late game if everyone is full build and I have nothing but armor/hp I shouldn't be even noticing physical attacks against me. If it was magic attacks I would understand taking such chunks of damage, but physical attacks going through FIVE..I repeat FIVE armor items with ONE I say again ONE penetration item.

Then there's the fact BORK exist which completely nullifies the point of building hp.

I will admit tanks without a doubt are stronger now, but they're not strong in the way we need. You increased their damage which wasn't an issue. The issue was I could build full tank and still get melted like a squishy.

Solution:

  • Lower the amount of penetration % on last whisper
  • Lower the % max hp on BORK
  • Tanks need to do damage vs minions/monsters but less to champions

**We drew the game out **

And that's why you lost. Good job.

Full AD if allowed to scale into full builds will still shit on your tanky comp.

To expand, I don't mean lost as in defeat. I mean lost as in lost time, allowed the enemy to scale too far into the game that it became more even.

To be fair, you were only up against one form of armor shred on the enemy AD carries. It could have been a lot worse with either item 3071 item 3142

This. If you just close the game out at your earliest chance you'll be fine, but tanks can only do so much once they're finally itemized against. There's absolutely no reason that you should be able to achieve full build and be unkillable by their full build.

He won.

Did you even read the whole post? No? Okay. Let me highlight this for you:

Okay. Sorry.

Negative effects always crush positive effects in this game, such as Slow is far more effective than a Speed Boost, or Penetration being far more effective that it wipes out the Armor/Resist.

This is why I use all Penetration Marks/Glyphs, gg.

On a side note: There's only armor penetration on Marks, but Magic Penetration can be found on Marks and Glyphs.

MrPerson101 votes

I believe you forgot quintessences. They also have penetration - magic, armor and hybrid.

BlizzardMOBAsoon1 votes

Quints can do everything so yeah of course. I meant normal runes. I use my Quints for +gold actually though, as well as +gold seals, works out to a nice early item advantage, good for snowballing little do people realize.

MrPerson101 votes

There are usually much better options unless you're a support main, in which case + gold is reasonable.

Outside of that, you have much more snowball potential with offensive or utility stats with them like MS, AD, AP, etc.

Riot is afraid and hates anything that is remotely tanky, they generally want the game to be flashy "play-fest" like counter strike where everyone dies in 2 hit.

"Tanks are tanky, let's nerf them", I am sorry that they can do their job properly.......?

Sad to inform them, they are balancing the wrong game.

TiV31 votes

Actually, riot just doesn't want hype lategame be dominated by tank stats, considering how gold efficient they are. Look at DotA2 if you want to see a game about flashy squishies.

SEKAI1 votes

Problem is, with the amount of cc or escapes squishies have these days, tanks don't stand a chance against them early either. Unless they have mad gap closers or overloaded cc.

Ofc Cinder brought us some fresh air but tanks don't really have the better end of the stick in this game tbh.

MrPerson101 votes

That's hilarious, they just gave tanks a MASSIVE blanket buff with Cinderhulk.

SEKAI1 votes

That's a bless yes, but that's after 2 years of tanks being oppressed generally.

I wouldn't necessarily say my point is totally wrong. Hopefully their recognition with tanks would maintain as it is, instead of it being just another knee jerk reaction to pacify the community rage, which they will slowly revert later.

Blanket buff to tank junglers, bringing them ahead of the previously popular early game warrior-style junglers

"Tanks are tanky, let's nerf them"

Please tell me how a blanket buff is a nerf.

Now try telling me how any of it's true.

It's just this patch.

You can go back to S3 where tanks were butchered left and right, in S4 where they just got left there without love or attention but at least they were functional, then the start of S5 where all of them received a bat straight into their faces.

It's not really exaggerating when I said they really don't like tanks, their record tells us this much.

Cinder was introduced, which finally shed some light onto the issue.

But I was just saying, hopefully they will maintain their recognition on tanks, and hopefully they will not simply go back to their usual routine later.

MrPerson101 votes

I'm aware, however this post was made this patch - not back in S3 where it would've been warranted. Tanks have always filled their role as a meat shield with utility.

Durability without damage output often loses to damage output without durability. A guy in a bomb suit shooting a pellet gun will get killed by a naked guy with an AK-47.

Consider defensive items are less expensive overall. (though defensive items are a bit more cost efficient at the same time)

If defensive items were same cost as agressive items, you'd have a point that full build tank vs full build damage dealer should be stronger, though.

Last whisper reduces the amount of armor Frozen Heart gives to 65, and Randuin's to 45. Last Whisper just breaks armor into a thousand pieces

I don't think they should be stronger I think they should be more durable.

A full armor/hp built tank shouldn't be getting shreded by physical attacks.

Gym Leader Yaki1 votes

Despite them being able to shred through your armor you still:

  • Had a higher kill + assist ratio then any of your opponents
  • Less deaths or on par with 4 of them
  • Got more towers and dragons
  • You dealed 30k damage to champs while their Trynd did 37.5k. Do not forget you have the ability to front line while he can't. All of this for 7k more damage.

See, they didn't deal that much damage when you look at it this way!

I stop reading here.

  1. Not closing the game when you can isn't sportmanlike and is disrespectful against you enemies
  2. If you let a tryndamere end his build you DESERVE to lose - there isn't any 'Last Whisper is too much strong' that can avoid you that, you had the enemy team behind and let them get back in the game
  3. You aren't getting melted like a squishy, you're surviving a lot more than your ashe. You aren't ignoring their attacks? Well, THAT'S balance, it's good as it it. Protip: i play a lot of tank champions

Surrender button exist and we won.

Also the way penetration/% max hp items are in the game right now you might as well be destroying real tanks with nerf guns.

Swampmajikk1 votes

i really wish they'd make a dual pen item. fuck your MR AND your armor.

AetherKingdom1 votes

yea maybe because u suck and were two handed masturbating while tryn attacked you and you did nothing

Martyrofsand1 votes

Just a point of note but while you did have 500 armor, they had a Vi who drops that by 20%, so 400 armor, and then 3 of them had Last Whispers, which knocks off another 140, so 260. Honestly I figured if you where bitching about any of them it would of been Yasuo considering he can ignore 50% of your bonus armor on top of everything else further making it irrelevant.

Yes armor shred in this game is rather silly you can blame riot for changing how penetration works back in S2, hint it's not the items that are at fault it's how penetration is applied, back during S2 stacking pen really didn't do you many favors, now it's crazy strong.
