Why dont they give new champions the ivern treatment?

Succubús GF··32 votes·2,389 views

Time and time again they come out with broken upon release champions (Kindred Camille Illaoi ((kinda))) and ivern is a prime example of what SHOULD happen. Release them, give the people a feel for their kit but not too overwhelming and then buff/nerf accordingly. But for now i am waiting for the "we done goofed on camille" steak dinner from riot

Probably because (at least as people tell me) Riot wants to make as much money as possible with each release.

I prefer a new champion to be on the weaker side as it gives people more of a reason to play safe and learn the tricks with them. Because when they are OP, people lose a lot of what they gained when the champion gets nerfed imo.

Best example I can think of is Poppy right after her rework. I loved her and learned a lot, but after they removed the AA reset and shortened her ranges I felt like I had to relearn her all over again (it's actually why I'm worried about her getting nerfed to hard. Having to relearn a champion you were confident with sucks).

I could actually see the coincidence in -x champion released is broken spend rp to get them- I actually feel the same, when my main-ish (kat) got reworked i was a little frustrated having to relearn her but she wasnt busted broken upon release and you actually had to think about dagger placements and stuff like that. Also wtf? Poppy is not getting MORE nerfs, i refuse.

Shield passive duration reduction and reduced damage on snapcast ult.

The enemy jungler cries when:

Ivern support + any jungler

Ivern wandering into your jungle and stealing your stuff whenever he sees you top lane.

Ivern my favorite color... IS STEALING YO SHIT AND SECURING THE RIVER CRAB

i really cant remember the last balanced champ released. Everything is either utterly broken or utterly worthless. People called ivern worthless but he quicky became on of THE most toxic champs in the game and gto toned down. and he is stupid super strong and annoying.

Rework Yorick?

dominusx1 votes

Oh shit. yeh maybe sion too but thats pretty old

Samflash31 votes

But the ones you remember are the ones that were OP. Those leave a lasting impression on you.

Pommel Knight1 votes

He's balanced. They just gave him qol changes.

Arakadia1 votes

Bard Maybe sorta weak on release, but pretty strong if you knew how to play him.

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

I Still here the /all chat rage from that Tryndamere I ulted way back when. Managed to him him during his ult, butnot my ADC that he was diving.

Vel'koz? Taliyah?

dominusx10 votes

Tali? one q cleared a whole wave lmfao. Velkoz is AGES ago talking about semi recent past

morris14 votes

On release Taliyah was very much on the weak side, they had to hotfix her because she was horrible to play.

dominusx1 votes

i think she was actually bugged thus got hotfixed i dont think it was a numbers change when she got hotfixed

Spoofghoul2 votes

well velkoz was sort of balanced on release right now i consider him broken

he doesnt even need to build mana anymore and deals most of his damage as true damage

It Hertz When IP7 votes

Dodge? All of his abilities are skillshots and he has to hit you several times with them for that true damage. Oh, and during his ult, he's freaking rooted to the ground. Take advantage of that.

Supreme Senpai692 votes

As a frequent Vel'Koz player... he totally needs to build mana. That dude goes oom so quick lol. On a good game 1/6th of my damage is true damage. Which is a lot but by no means is it my most. Most of my damage comes from my combo + TLDs proc and Q poke. The passive is just icing on the cake.

Tali was fine on release. The clearing minions with 1 Q was a buff that happened a patch or 2 after her release.

You're talking about 6.11 Taliyah. She was released on 6.09 and she was considered weak because people didn't understand how to use her. Guess what Riot did.

How about Kled? He only got nerfed slightly after release

dominusx4 votes

probably the most disgusting pile of shit out of all of em. second to ivern

Arakadia1 votes

I'd say Kled went pretty well.

BBQChicken Alert2 votes

His ult was pretty retarded when he was released.

Arakadia1 votes

I was thinking about Kled, but some people really hate him.

kled is life

A.Sol. Kled. Bard.

ModAcademy Kayn3 votes

Funny enough, the Super Aggro in your face all the time Kled, has been pretty stable, with the only nerfs being ult range (and then the W passive, but that's to make up for the remount speed)

Sire Hippington3 votes

Well, Ivern is a bad example, he was more like yasuo, atleast for high elos. Released actually to strong, then buffed on top off that because people took a long time to get used to him and then finally nerfed, but still not enough(he's on a 55%+ winrate in plat+ since 3 patches now....)

But generally, i also prefer new champs and reworks to be released undertuned rather than overtuned, feels more rewarding for those that actually like the champs if they do master a weak champ and then get buffs, while fnding a new champ for yourself just to get a couple of nerfs on him feels rather bad.

Strong champions get more gameplay.

It is very difficult for Riot to know if a champion is going to be balanced or overpowered.

Camille is not a good example, but I don't believe they expected her to be as overpowered as she is currently.

Regardless, if a champion is not played it is hard for them to know what is overpowered.

Ideally they want them to in the upper tier, but not broken.

Strong champions also sell.

Riot is still a business, and they want to make more money.

That is just the way that it works.

Balance can be adjusted in time.

Dengeden2 votes

Ivern had a high winrate, banrate and playrate, unlike Camille and Illaoi.

Newsflash, just because a champion depends on his team a little doesn't mean he can never be broken. Every champion depends on their team.

warpenguin5551 votes

Illaoi was shit on release.

Kindred was balanced on release because release Kindred was only balanced in the hands of inexperienced players.

I do agree with the rest of the post though

Lucian Waifu1 votes

She is already getting two small nerfs for the next patch. She is getting her passive shield reduced to 1.5 second duration at all levels and lowering her HP gained per level from 95 to 85.

Darth Sidiouss1 votes

Jhin was like this too i believe they buffed him the following patch i think and everyone was saying he was so bad and this and that.

Noblewind1 votes

Taliyah, A Sol, Jhin. Don't forget the releases that were underpowered too.

I still don't know what a Kled is

RogueWill1 votes

Or Vi that has similar amount of bugs as Azir upon release

IA9hRfpP5q1 votes

Camille should be like Veigar's E It gives a warning that the cage is gonna be "put up" and ANYONE who's in it get's trapped in it. So its like an actual boxing ring with people fighting.

It also would be cool if they hotfix it so that people from the outside cannot interact in any way with the people inside of the cage. Give some skill to that ult.

TheDelighted1 votes

The most concerning part about camille is the fact that she is riot's ideal of divers. I think we are going to have yet another juggernaught-marskmen-mages type of rework fails.

KoKoboto1 votes

Even now I think Ivern was fine but item 3190 item 3107 really put him over the top and so they had to nerf him

Skorch1 votes

I dont know, 33% is a little insane

TyroneWatermelon1 votes

remember the Skarner juggernaut patch release? the horror....

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

am pretty sure ivern was broken on release

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Velkoz Geometry major knows balance. Did it so well, Riot had to rework him, just to justify changes!

#Vel'Koz for balance team lead!

KennysDreamGirl1 votes

ivern was always strong from his release..the only reason i can see for his wr being as low as it was was because of how different he is from the norm..

DunkinNoobs1 votes

The Ivern treatment? You mean knee jerk buff them after 1 patch and have them become pick or ban in high elo immediately?
