Riot, please change how you do missions

The way missions are currently set up encourages people who want to accomplish them to just play bot games.

I mean, I have time for 1, maybe 2, games per day. So if I want to beat a mission, I better win both of those games. Since league games are pretty close to 50-50, that's not going to happen consistently. You'd need 4 games per day in order to beat every mission if you're playing normal league games. That means around 3-4 hours allocated to league, per day.

The people who have that much time to spend on league each day will like missions, don't get me wrong. They also won't like the rewards from them very much though. They may get something like a legacy skin shard that they appreciate, but long term I doubt you're giving away a lot of paid content for free.

Missions would be a great way to help newer players (or people who don't play much) fill out their champion pools, etc... To get maximum value out of them though, I find myself playing beginner bot games to make sure I get the matchmade win on my first try (and the gold / kills / assists easily).

I think missions would be much better if they lasted for more than a day. Give me a week to win the mission and I'll keep playing the game as I enjoy it. Give me a day and I'm not playing a game anymore but really grinding bots just to get rewards. I used to do that when I first started (first win of the day each day on beginner's twisted treeline). I thought I was finally past that stage...

You don't necessarily need to win both games, just the first one, for most "second" missions there has been so far you can fulfill the condition without winning.

One of the missions was to win on summoners rift. One was to get 15k gold, which realistically takes two games even if you win. Only one long game is enough to get 15k in a single game. One was to get 10 assists. Not often you get that many on a carry in a game you don't win. I barely scraped 11 with an amazing team, and played pretty suboptimally to do so (dying or letting an ally take a lot of damage in order to not get the kill myself and let an ally have it so i could get the assist - as i said the team was great so i never felt i was risking losing the fight or game by playing suboptimally).

All in all, i get this is an event and missions like these are fine for this. Riot wants to implement them long term though, and if so i really hope they're not daily like this. There simply isn't the time for people with full time jobs (or school, or just a life outside league, or hell even just play other games). You also can't put in a hard mission if it only lasts a day - not practical to complete.

Just don't do Twisted Treeline vs AI, oh god, the bots...endless bots who run it down lane and feed an easy 10-12 kills, not even auto-attacking most of the time, running under turret. My alt account could actually win a 1v3 if the two bots I'm paired with wouldn't leave base. Sadly, scripted to not be disconnected and not gain IP/experience so...sucks to be me.

I haven't had that issue yet this time, although it is part of the reason i stopped the first time. Although i can carry two inting bots in beginner 3s. Just go to the same Lane as them and get return kills every time the ai greeds for the player-bots.

Probably on beginner I could do that but I was talking about intermediate bots. Level 8 account vs keystone-grade bots that were updated to be a fair bit smarter than, not massively, but more so than old bots.

Bots run through minion waves, under turret, wind up with an EASY 3-4 level difference by the time I get enough gold farmed safely to have otherwise be able to fight back.

They set them up with the ability to gain them in bots so it doesn't gate players out that don't play PVP.

My point wasn't that you shouldn't be unable to do it via bots.

My point is that for some players (who have time for one game per day, maybe two), they're gated out of doing missions unless they do bots. Which means we're forced in to bots if we want to participate, even though I'd rather complete missions AND play regular games.

I don't think 4 games a day on average translates to 3-4 hours of league per day. Many games will end at 20 minutes, and 30 minutes a game is a far more reasonable average.

Now sure, you should be prepared to have a full hour available whenever you start a game (particularly a ranked game) just in case theres one of those rare hour long slugfests, but those don't happen very often. While 3-4 hours per day may not be practical for everyone, 1-2 should be, so people can play 1 or 2 'real' games (as in the ones they'd be playing without missions), and then depending on their luck in those games and the particular missions they have, they can spend 7 minutes churning out a bot game if they're worried.

(And the second mission of the day doesn't always require a win anyway, so the average number of games required in the first place is usually going to be lower.)

That said, you don't need to cap out on mission rewards either. Without spending real money you can't get enough tokens for everything to begin with, and if theres only one or two specific rewards you want then you can still afford to miss some missions depending on what reward(s) you do want.
