Just a reminder that the skill disparity in silver and gold is disgusting
It's coin flips here too. You win or lose based on who has the teammate that doesn't know wtf they're doing the least.

The main problem with Silver in my opinion is as follows
I'm a strong believer that all new accounts, smurf or not should be forced to start in Bronze 5 by default.
Silver is not the "Training Ground", Bronze is.
Place new accounts and new players in Bronze.
Let them learn the game in Bronze.
Silver players should not have to deal with new players who have no clue what they are doing.
That's not how any Elo system works though. You start in the middle with all the average players and then you're readjusted from there depending on your performance. If the average was Bronze 4 everyone would end up there instead. The problem with starting everyone at the literal bottom would be that it'd be really difficult to climb unless you're vastly better than everyone else.
To the same effect Bronze players shouldn't have to deal with trying to escape the literal bottom tier against smurfs. It'd likely be too frustrating for the new players to have to deal with since they'll end up B5 no matter where they got placed but they have a better chance of climbing out or learning vs. getting stomped 24/7 at the supposed lowest level of League.
If anything placements should be changed to weigh wins and losses more accurately. If you lose every game you need to go to Bronze 5 and if you win every you should be placed ahead of Silver.
Silver is base.
Bronze is below base.
Are you trying to point that silver players that arent new have idea what they are doing? This is bullshit no neither gold nor silver games are coinflip thats just a pathetic excuse for you being terrib... oh sorry i forgot this is family friendly site, for you being not highly skilled at the game..
You say that like it's not the same in plat or diamond
You say that like it's not the same in plat or diamond
Ill say this, starting from Silver 3 going to G1 I've fluctuated between S1 and S4 and noticed some things.
The closer you were to S5 the more consistent teammates got and the closer to Gold you got the more inconsistent they were.
By this i mean (and i use mobalytics to help me on this) i would get more new players in higher end of silver then i did in the lower end. If felt like most people there were about to drop to bronze so even if your teammates were bad their opponents were as well, where as in the higher end i was praying that mobalytics didn't say on my team(This player hasn't played in over a month) or (this player is new). Much worse you see players with sub 40% WRs and players with the caption(it would be a miracle if they ward).
The of course theres the smurfs which quite honestly if you have been playing the game for a while are not that bad to deal with laning wise if you get them but your teammates are the bigger worries in that area and because you likely won't have the skill to outright beat them in most cases, your teammates will fall over to them when they roam or if they are matched against them instead.
Finally the behaviors. The basic "if you die it's your fault" stance seems to be a foreign concept to them. The honestly believe that its everyone fault for not following them even in absurd situations. You could be at base, ping them away from invading as you have vision on the laner following them, watch them die in the enemy jungler and as if you know the words that are going to come out of their mouth say "you should of followed". Like what are these people, this is the stuff you see in Bronze but its in high silver/gold.
I mean, there are cases where you should have gotten backup. But most of the time where that is said it really is during dumb invades with 0 map awareness. Honestly at higher Elo that can even work cause you tracked their jungler on the other side and count on both laners coming. for a 2v1, but skill consistency isn't a thing at low elo.
I have this really clear memory a long time ago of playing bliz support and hooking an enemy under tower, and struggling with both of their teammates over several seconds to keep him there and scoring a kill. Then I hear "awh, I didn't get an assist" for my Adc. Who was standing next to us the whole time, CSing. I didn't say it, but I thought "Yes, you need to contribute if you want an assist".
In plat/diamond you think people would know how to not throw their leads after stomping the enemy team for first 10 minutes, but no I still have to waste my time typing in chat doing babysitting control because if I don't they do something completely stupid for the elo they are in throwing the game.
Since the game times have become shorter, the stomp fest just never ends. I remember times when mid/jung interventions had meaning rather than the 4 man bot exterminatus we have now.
Isn't cooperation helping your team out many times and getting presence, rather than ganging up on bot like some LCS wannabe? This is wrong on so many levels.
4-manning bottom is a legitimate play. It requires strong map, lane, and vision control. Top lane and the top side jungle must be safe, mid lane must have priority, and the enemy bottom jungle must be warded. Else, the enemy team can counter-gank, counter-roam, or counter-jungle, especially once the Rift Herald spawns.
Cooperation is making plays that generate stable leads or take objectives and then snowballing such advantages across the map. Remember, if you are at an elo where a random botlane double-gank can net kills, then you are also at an elo where you can just take Rift Herald or their topside jungle while they’re busy.
It's not even a coin flip if you get the "suicide by tower dive gank lvl 3" package from your team's jungler that shouldn't be queuing ranked. Playing from behind against a fed assassin with double buffs while being a 4v5 is fun and interactive.
makes sense, thats where fresh lv 30 accounts of players who never played ranked before and smurfs play most of their promos, im sure that because of the ranked placement system and a constant stream of smurfs that silver-gold is the hardest bracket to actually tell the skill lv of players. atleast in bronze you dont go vs secret masters players smurfing around because placements and post placement matches never touch bronze. its like a safe zone.
As a smurf who had an account hardstuck in gold, I can confirm...
It's because silver 3 and below is bronze. That's where people get placed after their placements. The people who don't play ranked that often never drop to bronze.
There's a lot of high skill players in gold and silver who's champions just can't compete with the meta bullshit anymore and don't care to try so they just "troll" by picking non-meta bullshit and watching a meta slave play an op champion for the first time slaughter them.
It's funny because I've duoed with multiple diamond players who couldn't even carry >50% of their silver games. How bizarre is that? Some games I would even do better than the diamond. Talk about SBMM.

Now i won't claiming to be this amazing player that should be diamond, masters, or challenger but at the very least if i look at my averages, even in my worst games i am not matching what the people i am grouped with sometimes are doing on average.
The differences are massive. It's decided by:
Who knows that buying control wards is one of the best possible things you can do?
How to position properly.
When to push a wave and when to freeze it.
How to fuckin last hit.
Its amazing how many players do none of these things. They get mad at me for telling them. (Mind you, I do it in a nice manner, but people are fucking stupid and cant take advice because "I'm a silver scrub."

I wish it were those problems. It's the Thresh throwing a lantern to a kogmaw and facetanking the 16 kill kayn as if he expects that to go well. It's the LeBlanc with 24 cs at 10 minutes. Shit if someone didn't know how to freeze as their biggest weakness that's just fine with me.
Lol. Every single game dude. At least one player every gams gives me a facepalm. [zombie-brand-facepalm]
My #1 issue is position, all the rest are easy (imo)

Issue is silver 4-3 is where riot sticks fresh level 30's. Which is the primary reason silver is the cesspool that it is. 100's of to be blunt, clueless players who've just picked their main and can't farm to save a life

Yes and thats why you see a lot of people placed there that do not have the basic understanding of the game that the people who have been there a while. I mean its gotten to the point where people think i am smurfing sometimes just for doing basic stuff that people should know at silver.
Completely agree. My friend gets absolutely shit stomped when I play with him on my Gold account. The skill disparity between him (who's a Silver player) vs the Silver 1 / Gold + players is VERY noticeable. In comparison to what Riot is changing for Ranked next season with Platinum / Diamond skill disparity, I don't know first hand whether or not that is true. I've heard from high elo streamers who smurf that the skill disparity is disgusting. The second new elo should be between Silver and Gold rather than Wood and Plastic.
See this issue I think isnt the fact that there isn't enough rankings, we dont need to add another elo. What riot needs to do is send people into bronze from their promo games because I recall a friend last season who won 2/10 games and got s3 while i won 7/10 and got s2. When new people play ranked for the first time, they shouldn't be placed at silver. Silvers where people who are relatively intermediate and have mastered the basics should be, not people who can barely cs or gank which is 90% of the people currently in there.
I duoed with my bro IRL for his placements last week.
He was placed in S3 I was placed in S4. We went 5-5.
Shit doesn't even put you in the same division lmfao.
I'm like, 90% sure I went 5-5 in promos and got placed B4
Oh, my friend, I won 6/10 and I was placed in B5. Don't ask me how I have no idea but it wasn't a nice feeling. I somehow managed to s3 don't ask me how either but how can I be put in B5 with 6 wins is a real mystery. Also, don't think I'm lying I mean there is no reason to lie such a thing. [vlad-salute]
I'm stuck in bronze, but I have friends that have climbed the ladder. They say that the division differences are there, but they're very hard to notice. It isn't until platinum where you see drastic improvements.
I have nobody to back this opinion up, but I think that the problem is how the system judges you based on if you win or lose. I mean yeah, if you lose you could have done something better, and you could have done something worse if you win. That said, with 15 ranks between the lowest rank and the rank where you see drastic improvements, you will have players all over the place in skill. They may play like a gold player should, but they cannot pull a win because the rest of the team plays like bronze players, and their opponents play like silvers.
Is a good player more likely to climb than a bad one. Sure, but it's not surefire enough.
I have played from Bronze 5 up to Gold 3 in various seasons on this account and a previous account, so I think I can chime in here.
In summary of this, I say that if you deserve Gold or higher, you should be able to end up there. But you’re going to have to spam games and accept the fact that you’re probably going to lose 40% of those, at least.
I started playing ranked on my previous account waaaaay too early, which resulted in me dropping to Bronze 5 almost immediately. It took me quite some time playing ranked to get to the point where I understood what it took to climb. I had watched several very informative streamers to see how they worked through games, and continually implemented their strategies and learned them.
I began seeing dramatic improvement, climbing from the dregs of Bronze 5 (mmr calculators were estimating I was in the bottom 5% of bronze 5) to Silver 5 in the span of about 4 weeks with a 90% winrate.
I’m currently sitting at Gold 5, and I can confirm there are so many noticeable differences between low bronze and low gold that it’s not even funny.
Someone who truly deserves Gold from a macro game perspective should be able to carry bronze games no problem just off sheer objective focus alone. My experience in bronze is that while I was sometimes matched or exceeded in lane, I could almost always win by focusing objectives and punishing deaths/positioning mistakes. Bronze players just don’t understand how to pressure objectives, to take full advantage of kills or where the enemy team is, or respond appropriately to pressure from the enemy team (e.g. taking multiple top towers while the enemy team is engaged in a prolonged 4v5 clown fiesta with the other members of my team).
What can be done to fix it though? Add an additional level in between Silver and Gold?
I was in S5 hell for the first 100 games or so of the season and did Fill-play until I got to S4 and now am running in to about 90% fewer trolls and out-of-place B5 skill players who are trapped in S5. There's clearly an imbalance that everyone is aware of, but I'm not seeing a lot of great suggestions to fix it.

One suggestion that can be done off the top of my head is start every new player at B5 regardless of promos and the purpose of promos is to determine LP gains. That way smurfs can climb out quickly and new players will be there till they improve.
Perhaps it’s just because silver is close to my actual play level so the differences feel magnified, but I can definitely feel a huge difference between playing in Silver V or IV and Silver II or I. Climbing out of silver V was almost effortless since my lane opponents constantly made mistakes I could punish them for, whereas silver II and I gave me a few failed promos, and I had to grind out games to pass those tiers. I have a feeling that if I actually played more at a plat/diamond level, I would hardly notice the difference between low and high silver though, so perhaps our perspectives on the skill disparity are biased by our own skill levels? For another example I bet I’d feel little disparity between high plat and low diamond cause either would kick my ass anyways, yet I always hear players at that level talk about the difference.
It's because most people's goal is to get to Gold 5, which is why there are a lot of boosters in that elo creating huge imbalances.

Gold 5 is pretty rough still though because its still matching you with the problem Silver Area(S2 and S1).
Smurfs will get there easily. It might make their win rates worse, but I believe that a 65% winrate from silver 5 to gold 5 is easy to do for anyone above platinum.
THat's why they're adding another division
All ELO' s below around mid-plat are basically the same.
Alright so, I created smurfs twice already, I'm a DiaIV midlaner but I wanted one account to train only top, and one more to train only jungle, and see if I could make it. Upon placements, one of my smurf ended up silverIV for some reason, while the other got to g1. And guess what, I climbed. I carried my way up regardless how bad people were.
I'll say it here once : blaming a supposed "skill disparity" for your loses is lying to yourself, simply refusing to accept that you are not (yet?) good enough.
Don't blame others, they're not the ones who matter. You are.
Silver and Gold are the two elos where it's the easiest to carry. Literally the only reason bronze is harder to carry in is because people randomly go afk there, and depending on how unlucky you are, it may take more games to climb.
I 100 agree. I made a post similar to this about not being able to climb and how I had to carry or lose until ... I just started carrying more and climbed out of gold
No offence but silver gold plat or diamond games aren't coin flips, you just don't know how to win them. If your reasoning is "I have bad teammates every now and then so every game is a coin flip" then every single elo is a coin flip, maybe you should focus on getting better instead of blaming your teammates. As a coach, I see this mentality all the time "there's nothing that I can do because my teammates are bad, i played okay but they fed." If you want to win you shouldn't just be playing "okay" you should be playing exceptionally to consistently get out of your elo, and blaming your teammates isn't the mindset that is going to help you towards having exceptional play, it hinders it since you negate any sense of fault.
You can't carry a team that refuses to ward.
I'm sorry, but you cannot. I dont care if youre challenger.
You can, and warding is the least of your worries, I'm surprised thats what you mentioned of all things. Lack of warding (from your teamates) can easily be supplemented from 2 ways. The first way is simply warding yourself, even in diamond games people don't ward so I grab a blue trinket and by 20 minutes my half of the jungle is fully warded, the only time this isn't effective is when the enemy team has map pressure and is constantly invading, but even then by them destroying the ward, you are getting information of their whereabouts not to mention, control wards are also a thing. The 2nd way is probably the most commonly used and the easiest to use with practice, game sense. Any good player knows where the jungler starts and knows where the jungler will be for the next few minutes, and that also applies to any time the jungler appears on the map at all, not to mention you can use your own wards for more information on his whereabouts if you were to for example get lane priority and get deep wards down, that way you would never have to worry about dying to a gank. Another common way to take advantage of your wards is to ward somewhere that gives you plenty of time to react to the jungler, and then play on the opposite side of that ward, the only exception for this would be the mid lane, and in the case of the mid lane its easier because you want to play towards the side of the ward. Then if the jungler comes from either direction you are covered and have plenty of time to react. Don't try to make concrete claims about the game in silver. You still have much to learn about the game. If any good player were in your elo they could easily climb out of it, the reason you are in silver is because you are the consistency that is causing you to lose your games, not your teamates.
So, you're saying that your trinket and getting only one control ward lights up your side of the map? You're saying vision on the map is the LEAST of my worries?
.....really?
You didn't read my post at all. You're telling me information that I can do as a solo player, shit I already know.
You're telling me to ward in a spot that provides info. Okay, cool. What about the teammates that DO NOT ward? You mean my single ward is going to protect the other lanes from ganks? Lol, k. I can only protect my own lane. I can't hold my team's hands. You seem to be forgetting that a player is VERY Limited to the amount of wards you can have out at one time per player.
I can easily ward where the jungler starts. But that does nothing to help a laner that doesn't ward near the jungle entrance to their lane. I'm an ADC main. I can't protect top lane. I can't protect mid. If they go 0/5 because the jungler camped, nothing I can do about it.
So, you're saying that your trinket and getting only one control ward lights up your side of the map?
Yes... Don't discredit me without trying it, I do it almost every single game.
saying vision on the map is the LEAST of my worries?
Yes because as I already said, you don't need wards to know where people are at, you use your brain for that. The main use of wards is to tell you where they are NOT at.
What about the teammates that DO NOT ward?
Did you even read the post?
You mean my single ward is going to protect the other lanes from ganks?
Yes, smart players will ward for their teammates, and ping whenever someone is coming to gank their teammate, it's not rocket science.
You seem to be forgetting that a player is VERY Limited to the amount of wards you can have out at one time per player.
You seem to be forgetting that a player can have an unlimited amount of wards; newsflash, it's called blue trinkets.
I can't hold my team's hands.
And that is why you are stuck in your elo blaming your teammates. You SHOULD be holding their hands, that's how you guarantee that you consistently win, that's the whole point of roaming. You could sit there and go 20/0 and every single one of your games by just sitting in your lane, but what meaning does that have if everyone else get's dumpstered on? In EVERY lane your role is to have as big as an impact on ALL lanes as possible.
I can easily ward where the jungler starts. But that does nothing
Did you even read my post? This would be a significant ward because you could track the jungler's whereabouts for the next minute and a half in the LEAST.
I'm an ADC main. I can't protect top lane
The words you're looking for here are "I don't want to protect top lane." Good ADC's consistently win their lanes and transfer their leads to other lanes, it doesn't matter how bad your top laner is doing if its a 3v1.
If they go 0/5 because the jungler camped, nothing I can do about it.
once again, did you even read my post? It's one ward 7 letters, ROAMING.
Think about it this way buddy, any good player can consistently dominate games in your elo despite their feeding teammates, why do you think that is? Do you think it's because they are lucky and always get the good teammates?
[{quoted}](name=RxO Carmada,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=thHX1dj8,comment-id=00160000000000000000,timestamp=2018-07-03T20:19:53.779+0000)

Yes because as I already said, you don't need wards to know where people are at, you use your brain for that. The main use of wards is to tell you where they are NOT at.
Ok so let me get this one straight. I place my ward over at the river brush where the scuttle spawns. What does that tell me, with your logic? That the enemy jungler is 100% not in this spot. Ok? So that means he must be.....anywhere else. Nice. That is not enough info. Now, if the other teammates also ward in useful spots, that would be super duper. But, nah. It's silver.
Did you even read the post?
Yes, smart players will ward for their teammates, and ping whenever someone is coming to gank their teammate, it's not rocket science.
You just confirmed my whole point right here.
You seem to be forgetting that a player can have an unlimited amount of wards; newsflash, it's called blue trinkets.
Blue trinkets die in one shot. They also have a rather long cooldown. They are not reliable enough to be the only reliance.
Roaming is all fine, but there is a proper time to do it. I'm not going to just walk away from my lane whenever just because my mid laner is losing. I lose cs that way, and I risk losing my tower. If I shove the lane, and force my opponent to recall, sure. But That is not always the case, and if I have a decent opponent they won't allow it.
Did you even read my post? This would be a significant ward because you could track the jungler's whereabouts for the next minute and a half in the LEAST.
Did you read mine? I can ward where the jungler is, and ping it. No problems. The issue is can my laners ward their own jungle entrances to anticipate the gank? No, they do not. The issue is that players don't seem to listen. I have no control over that.
The words you're looking for here are "I don't want to protect top lane." Good ADC's consistently win their lanes and transfer their leads to other lanes, it doesn't matter how bad your top laner is doing if its a 3v1.
That's all fine and dandy, but even if I take the fight to top lane after winning my own lane, my top laner is STILL well behind the enemy laner. If my top laner is 0/5 by the 15 minute mark and they are a full item or two behind, then it really doesn't change anything even if I come and get a successful gank.
once again, did you even read my post? It's one ward 7 letters, ROAMING. Again, there is a proper time for that. ADCs cannot freely leave their lane without confirming a kill. I'm not going to walk all the way to mid lane, and walk away with nothing. I lose cs and xp, and I risk losing my own tower.
Think about it this way buddy, any good player can consistently dominate games in your elo despite their feeding teammates, why do you think that is? Do you think it's because they are lucky and always get the good teammates?
No, but this is a team game. I can understand if players make mistakes. You can always recover. What I don't understand is why players don't have common game sense. With all the current problems the game has like damage being as high as it is, and champions with overloaded kits compared to others, it's becoming tougher and tougher the last few seasons to actually make a recovery.
That's why I've quit the game. I play maybe once every here and there, but overall I couldn't care anymore.
Ok so let me get this one straight. I place my ward over at the river brush where the scuttle spawns. What does that tell me, with your logic? That the enemy jungler is 100% not in this spot. Ok? Once again because you can't utilize strategy you resort to blaming your teammates. The idea is that you place wards at chokes that the jungler must walk through in order to be on that side of the jungle, that way you know if he has not been seen by that ward then he is either not on that side of the jungle, or he is not in a position to have a successful gank. With this, you know that he is more than likely on the other side of the map, and depending on when you placed it you can generalize how long he will spend on that side of the map.
Yes, smart players will ward for their teammates, and ping whenever someone is coming to gank their teammate, it's not rocket science.
You just confirmed my whole point right here.
You're already making a mistake by assuming you are going to have perfect teammates every single game, you realize that you will statistically receive the same skill of good and bad teammates as your opponents right? Also, this is towards you, not your teammates, if you're a good player you place wards for them and ping when their jungler is ganking.
Did you read mine? I can ward where the jungler is, and ping it. No problems. The issue is can my laners ward their own jungle entrances to anticipate the gank? No, they do not. The issue is that players don't seem to listen. I have no control over that.
Once again making assumptions without doing it, why don't you actually try to ping to get their attention, spam ping and ping on top of them. Most people will listen, and sure not all of them will but as long as it's a majority you can easily climb if they listen to your calls (assumiong you know how to make good calls), and the games that they don't aren't just simply "unwinnable".
"Blue trinkets die in one shot. They also have a rather long cooldown. They are not reliable enough to be the only reliance."
They are good for relying on, because once again it's a ward if they are on the ward it tells you they are there, if they aren't on the ward it tells you they are not there. Also, you don't strictly have to use blue wards, this is just what I do, you can easily control your side of the map with your yellow trinkets and a cw.
Obviously, roaming has a time and place, you're preaching to the choir. Also, your argument here is that you can't win lane against a silver player (or find opportunities to roam) so the rest of your team is punished for that reason, do I need to even say anything about this?
Did you read mine? I can ward where the jungler is, and ping it. No problems. The issue is can my laners ward their own jungle entrances to anticipate the gank? No, they do not. The issue is that players don't seem to listen. I have no control over that.
Once again why are you expecting them to anticipate the gank instead of just telling them when it comes yourself, if you're warding correctly, you know where the jungler is, so tell your teammates. Also when you get opportunities ward for them, there are places that have extremely great value in terms of wards that let you get a lot of information with just a single ward.
Okay let me get this straight, you won your lane in one of the most gold efficient lanes in the game, and you're saying if the top laner is 0/5 you can't 3v1. Give me a break. I'm a Riven main and I can't 2v1 when the bot lane is 2 levels under me or higher in most cases, let alone 3v1. Also if you can't win one of these scenarios once again that's on your skill being unsatisfactory, not your teammates.
"I quit the game because my teammates don't play exactly how I want them to every single game." Damn, I might as well just quit right now too.
Sounds to me like you're just making excuses as to why you're hard-stuck in your elo, once again if a challenger player were playing in silver with feeding teammates they could easily win, you just want to use your teammates as an excuse to hide your own insecurities.
EDIT: Also saw what you mentioned earlier, if you seriously think a challenger player cant win a silver game with teammates that are behind then watch and unranked to challenger series, or better yet watch apdo. Apdo has 80%+ win rates aganst other challenger players, you're actually joking or trolling if you think he can't consistently win in silver. Also there have been other challenger players that have gotten 95%+ win rates to challenger.
It’s funny because I used to think that silver was ok until I reached high gold and saw how ... much skill disparity there is in silver alone. Then when I reached plat the difference between gold and silver is disgusting. Its not even so much they don’t have the skill it’s just pure ignorance. Not mowing their limitations and enemy limits or what to do in different stages of the game.
Now when I’m playing a silver game on my alt I have to play different than normal it’s so bizarre
