I like how Orianna, a "utility" mage outdamages Viktor

I don't know when people will realize Orianna has been consistently one of the best mid laners in the game for years (come worlds she'll become popular again like she does every year) but it's still bullshit that she goes toe to toe in damage output with other damage mages while also offering a huge amount of utility for her team.

Karma is balanced like a utility mage (actually gives up damage for utility), Orianna has gotten the best of both worlds for a long time now and I hope Riot tones her down eventually.

Edit: If you really can't see why Orianna is the reason for the lack of mid lane mage diversity i don't know what to say to you. Take basically any immobile mage and try to list of reasons why you might want to pick them over Orianna and then when you realize you can't you'll understand why she needs to be nerfed.

Orianna straight up offers more utility and at least matches the damage of half the mage roster in the game. She's the invisible renekton bar of mid (only because she actually requires some skill to play with unlike renek) and needs to be nerfed in order to increase mid lane diversity.

Utility Damage™

I'm not seeing it.

Viktor has a slow that can stun, and a MS boost, and can interrupt channels. Orianna has a slow/MS boost on the same spell, but no other cc outside her ult, which is a knockup.

I mean, maybe Ori is a tad strong, but she's not the best. Hell, even Lux has a high pick, win, and ban rate than Orianna.

she out damages viktor? also viktor honestly has very good utility as well.

Orianna is really freaking hard to play that well. Her kit is more predictable and she isn't able to 1v1 very well. She has phenomenal zone control, but Azir does the same thing and might do it better. He also has more mobility.

Take basically any immobile mage and try to list of reasons why you might want to pick them over Orianna and then when you realize you can't you'll understand why she needs to be nerfed.

Here's alist of immobile mages and reasons they might be better than Orianna in certain situations.

Anivia Anivia isn't that strong, I guess. Annie Tons of stuns, flash-tibbers engage is faster than an Orianna QRW. Brand Tank melter. Passive + Liandry's is pretty strong. Cassiopeia Ridiculous DPS. Chogath He's tanky even if you build as a mage and makes a great anti-assassin pick. Galio Not really super strong, but his ult is amazing if you can play him well enough. Heimerdinger May actually have better zone control than Orianna. Karthus Honestly not that dangerous. Lux Snare, AOE damage, shield, laser. They're about the same in terms of damage and utility. Malzahar Silence and suppression, insane single-target burst. Morgana Stuns for days. Syndra Very high single target burst and is extremely powerful when played well. Veigar Not that strong, but he does have that "infinite scaling" thing going for him. Velkoz True damage procs, so well balanced that he has quite literally never been changed except for clarity (except when they gave everyone 4 armor). Viktor Very high damage, both single target and in groups. Also has better disengage. Xerath Not really all that strong, but he has really good range and mana sustain. Ziggs Lots of long-range poke. Zyra Less zone control, but more hard CC.

Viktor has just as much CC as Orianna, on top of a bit of mobility that Ori doesn't have?

Why is he getting downvoted? fking orianna abusers

Fiveofswords9/28/2015, 9:30:19 AM1 votes

orianna doesnt outdamage victor. oriannas damage is not terribly high actually...most mages outdamage her.

what was your point in even bringing up karma? shes mainly a support

That's because Orianna is never a front runner champion. She only comes back into play when people need a semi risky safe mid laner as to not get but pounded in tough situations. It generally comes from "holy shit what do I play vs this, nothing else works".

She is a stable soft counter but she hasn't been a leader of the pack since season 2's 900 ball range.

I have to agree with this. I don't actually see Orianna much any more (she's supposedly the 6th most-played mid-laner according to champion.gg?), but I've always felt that she doesn't give up enough raw damage for the amount of utility and, more importantly, zone control that she offers.

Back in the day when she was first released, mana was more of a real issue (Athene's hadn't been created yet), so her QW combo had a very significant cost despite its high damage output. These days, that cost seems to be much less significant, allowing her to spam her abilities more without going OOM, even during the laning phase. Outside of the laning phase, she still has very good AP scaling ratios, allowing her to output both massive burst with her full combo, and decent sustained damage due to her low cooldowns.

I've actually thought she's been slightly OP consistently for years, but she's not complained about that much because she's only numerically overpowered - her kit itself is fine and not that frustrating to play against, so people don't quite notice how powerful she is.

There's no way she out-damages Viktor, though. His damage output is insanely high.

Abyssphere6/28/2015, 9:26:40 PM1 votes

Viktor gets used more than her in competitive play recently. Cass gets more use and so does Kog. Azir does, but he doesn't count as immobile so I'll leave him out of it.

Orianna is fine, the idea that she crowds out other picks is ridiculous. She's always at least somewhat good, sure, but she hasn't been a priority pick in a long time.

ValyrianBlade6/28/2015, 9:45:39 PM1 votes

I tend to find orianna to be one of my easiest mid Lane opponents (although i main ahri for mid). Aside from command attack, i find her entire kit really easy to dodge, she's fairly predictable, and never seems to have kill pressure.

As opposed to say, Annie/malz/viktor who all seem to do a much better job of locking someone down and bursting them. Viktor offers loads of zoning potential in a teamfight, malz has a 3 second aoe silence and a targeted instant suppression, Annie can aoe stun or targeted stun and offers a bear to tank turrets after the fight...

I'm not saying orianna is weak by any means, i just think she's in a good place. She's almost always a skill matchup (has few counters, counters few champs) and once you learn her kit she's fairly easy to outplay.

Viktor 's ult a lone literally has a higher base damage that a rotation of all four of Orianna 's abilities combined, and only 25% less AP scaling (her passive not included).

Fiddlesticks is a utility mage whose ult can deal a crap ton of damage Anivia is a utility mage with insane burst
