PSA: Pick intent does not mean you can play whatever you want.. Pick order still exists.
There is still a strategic team comp you need to manifest and yes, pick order still exists.
Examples:
-Top and Jg pick before mid and they take AD champs, so unless the marksmen is Corki or Kogmaw, you should pick an AP mid. -Mid and JG pick before top and choose AD champs, so top should most likely carry the AP -ADC Mid and Top pick before JG and choose primarily magic damage champs(Adc Corki/Kog), so JG should be AD.
Here is the most important note of all: -Supports are supports, they are not "main tanks" or "AP Carries", they "support" main tanks and carries. They're income is very limited and situational, therefore are not well suited to be the only front line or carry all the magicals.
I really hate how much team expect of the supports, "we need tank supp", "we need APC supp", "we need supp supp"
No, you need to know your role and it starts with pick order in champion select.
I know it is possible to bring back the old mentality pre-DQ when 2 allies picked at the same time but the summoner below almost always yielded first choice to the summoner above them.
Conclusion, you can intend to pick but you shouldnt always pick your intent, and dont expect the support to be the main tank or magic carry.
