Why do people hate Jhin's ultimate so much?

Honestly, Is it that hard to dodge? Especially with a lot of champions having some form of mobility in their kit.

Yeah, my problem with him is the full pen builds that instantly kill you with a single shot and the BS hitbox on his W

Marshbouy1 votes

Yeah the hitbox is pretty BS.

It is the fact that if he hits one, it is VERY easy to hit all the rest as long as they have no mobility after, then the fact it procs the full (i believe)4 sec of deatfire mastery because it is single-target and the last shot is fucking boosted powerful at points.

If they wanted to make it more balanced, reduce the slow on hits.

It's not hard to dodge if he aims it at you, but a good jhin will predict the sidestep. Which basically means it's a 50-50 chance. That he gets FOUR chances to hit. Also, if his team is already chasing you, that sidestep may help them catch you even if you dodge it. Then if you're already near a wall it isn't 50-50, more like 80-20.

Jhin's ult is fine in most usage cases. I think using his ult to engage doesn't make sense though, it's unhealthy play. When pro play can see a team purposely LET THEIR ADC NOT BE IN RANGE OF A FIGHT AND ENGAGE I think it's a clear signal that something is wrong with it. Jhin ults, it's effectively a 5v4 for the enemy team minus the ult damage (which Jhin can do with his autos) and yet every pro team runs from it. Something is clearly wrong with that.

That's part of the perceived issue. Champions that are immobile are double whammied- they're less likely to be able to dodge the first shot (due to lack of mobility), and the slow hurts them more than champions with mobility.

Normally, champions that are immobile have that power allocated to something else, like tankiness, CC, damage, or range. The thing is, if tankiness isn't your counter, then his range ignores the rest of your skills. It's sort of like how tanky people complain about % max health true damage- "there's no way I can itemize past it", only instead it's "there's nothing special my champion can do to mitigate this".

That said, I don't have any problems with Jhin's ult. If it needed nerfing, I'd say they should just go further on the execute like they did before (when they lowered the base damage and increased the % missing health amplification).

@NEP2UNE

Mages: ...You also have ranged autos just like he does, except you're not bound by any sort of static 2.5s reload

Most of your points are valid (if phrased too aggressively for my taste), but... outside of a few rare exceptions (TF, maybe Ziggs), ranged mages don't want to try to auto an ADC, 2.5s static reload time or not. So I wouldn't consider that a strong point in this argument :/

And Zhonya's is good if you're a little bit overextended and can give your team time to run up to cover you. But outside of that situation, it's definitely not a super life saver; if you use it to dodge one of the first 3 shots, then the next one is guaranteed to hit. That puts you into the choice of "do I eat the first 3 shots' slow and damage, allowing enemy team to come catch me, so that I can Zhonya's the 4th one that's going to crit? Or do I Zhonya's immediately and hope he's bad at timing followup shots?" Of course, as you mentioned, the best option is simply not getting into that situation in the first place.

Fairyfleur7 votes

He has four chances to hit you, and if he hits one the rest are basically guaranteed. It's also pretty annoying that if he hits all four it can straight up kill you from such long range; even when you're at full.

Marshbouy5 votes

even when you're at full.

that's completely bs.

Fairyfleur7 votes

It happens to me. I've been a squishy, and later into the game he can just ult, and if he manages to hit all 4 I'm dead. Especially with how much pen and ad he manages to get.

Astôlfo3 votes

Then learn to dodge or stay with your team and stop whining. And no, it cannot 100-0 anyone except a squishy, and even then, it cannot happen unless Jhin is ridiculously ahead (as in multiple items over), the enemy squishy is ridiculously behind (as in basically the bush being more useful than them), or if it's lategame and Jhin is full build against a defensive-itemless squishy who's dumb enough to eat all 4 shots.

Fairyfleur8 votes

I specifically said late-game. When did I say that I'm whining? I'm just saying that it's frustrating how much damage it can do. It's fairly easy to happen if you're trying to defend a siege when your team is dead. But you don't see me making threads saying "jhin ult op"; I'm just offering my opinion. I'm sure it's not impossible for him to luckily hit the first shot?

Astôlfo3 votes

If it's lategame, you should be with your team and not in the frontlines. If your entire team is dead and there's more than just Jhin there, you're screwed anyways. If it's just Jhin and you, then you should be respecting his range and staying/circling around areas that won't trap you if he decides to try and all-in or ult. You win in any straight 1v1 if you're a normal ADC, and most certainly during his reload.

Fairyfleur4 votes

I don't play adc.

Astôlfo3 votes

Who do you play then?

Fairyfleur3 votes

Squishy supports and mages.

Astôlfo3 votes

Supports: You generally shouldn't be wandering out alone anyways. If you're the sole one to die at whatever moment (meaning no one else will generally have respawned by the time you do) and no one else has recalled yet, there's an inherent risk if you wander around without vision, as with any other champion that the enemy team could pick. I don't see what's unusual. Mages: You have tons of health items as well as Zhonya's, one of the strongest items in the entire game. The only downside being it'll pass through you meaning it might hit someone else behind you potentially. You also have ranged autos just like he does, except you're not bound by any sort of static 2.5s reload. Also, you will probably have far more instantaneous burst and CC than he does. If you work with your team, you really shouldn't be having an issue.

Fairyfleur3 votes

I'm commenting about his ult, not him. On mages like Orianna Health and Defensive items aren't good.

Astôlfo3 votes

Uh, that's the point of counterbuilding, if you think his ultimate is such a problem and you don't know how to dodge.

Fairyfleur4 votes

I know how to dodge. I'm just saying that if he hits one lucky shot I'm dead, and from such range.

Astôlfo3 votes

If you're alone, sure, maybe. But if you're alone, that's a mistake on your part in the first place. That's my point. Same reason you wouldn't wander through enemy jungle randomly without vision. Champions that have overwhelmingly good odds in a 1v1 whether it be by surprise, at distance, or some other factor, do exist. In contrast, they're also usually a lot worse when against multiple people due to the very fact they are entirely focused on single-target.

LordGeovanni3 votes

That is the role of some one like a fighter or assassin not an adc especially not from the range jhin has. there is not supposed to be only one way to play the game and its real stupid that riot forces teamfights or lose the game

Astôlfo3 votes

?????

Jorencice4 votes

What adc can 1v1 a full build late game jhin?

MAYBE vayne if she gets a good tumble into a stun.

Everyone else he out damages to the extreme

Requiemsfire4 votes

ahhh, every adc lategame? They all out dps him, have mobility, have more upfront burst, have better cc, have attack speed steroids. Jhin's a very weak duelist relative to other ADC's.

Jorencice4 votes

Dont underestimate a 6 item build jhins dps.

MObility doesnt matter against auto attacks

None of them have CC that can stop auto attacks. (Cept ashe ult or vayne bolt into wall)

Unless they literally started the duel in the same bush jhin is just going to throw a grenade hit his root and proceed to 2 shot them with his ult.

And even if it starts in a bush if he gets his 4th shot off he can just walk away.

Astôlfo4 votes

You don't understand what you're talking about at all.

TyrekGoldenspear3 votes

This

What kind of Jhin would ult from point blank range when his autos do more damage.

Astôlfo3 votes

You realize he still can't even attack even once a second at level 18 full build? Every other ADC will kill him faster easily, even if Jhin manages to get off a second auto as he dies, which may or may not kill the enemy ADC.

Jorencice5 votes

K bro. I honestly dont care about jhin as a blitzcrank main i do just fine against him.

Except his long range engage and damage and root are Wayyyyy to strong.

But after reading this thread i see you just a jhin main who doesnt want him nerfed.

Cya.

Astôlfo3 votes

LUL. Uses the "you're an x main which makes your argument invalid" fallacy and isn't even correct lul

But hey, what can I say about someone who's too bad to know how to dodge extremely thin skillshots and calls them OP?

Jorencice5 votes

It doesnt matter how thin it is if it gove no indication of where its coming from.

Maybe if each shot had a pre laser like luxs ult you would be correct in saying "just dodge them"

But since they are extremely fast and come from off screen "dodge them" isnt a valid argument.

Guess we should just quadruple nids spear damage and say "just dodge them"

Light deus6 votes

I love how people are just saying just dodge, NOBODY dodges every skillshot... and when he can do like every minute...

Astôlfo3 votes

That's the point? That's why skillshots have risk and reward.

Light deus6 votes

{quoted}

his has way to much for the reward and little to no risk

Astôlfo3 votes

Uh yeah, sure. If you conveniently ignore the entire rest of his kit. And all the negative factors therein which balance it out.

The Great Divide2 votes

You mean the negative factors of an above average lane phase? The negative factor of one the best ADCs along with Ashe and maybe Jinx to play from behind (due to the amount of utility he has)? Yes, he is immobile, but 1/2 his kit is tailored so that weakness is very covered (his massive range).

He is a very hard champ to play well. But the only negative thing about him is his reload time, which really plays the biggest role in lane, in which he can still back off or use spells when it's down. He takes skill, but he's overtuned. And it would help your argument if you: actually provided examples of "all these negative factors," and weren't as pompous and pretentious when you post.

Astôlfo2 votes

? If he's behind, he's pretty much worthless until the 40+m mark except as an occasional slow/root bot. In early, if you actually know how to deal with him, he's essentially reduced to a farmbot like Vayne until he gets his ER (if at all) which helps with his heavy mana cost abilities. And his reload is a massive weakness, as is his level-locked attack speed growth, plus the fact he can't utilize Runaan's well.

And that's a bit hypocritical, considering the person I replied to literally did the exact same thing? Yet you don't mention them? Mmk.

So... Nothing to stop that ult channel? Nami Amumu Bard Braum Leona
and more..

The risk for his ult is that he has to remain completely immobile in order to dish out the damage. And it's a channel, meaning all hard ability CC (CC that prevents the usage of abilities) will cancel it and put it on full cooldown. These are stuns, airborne effects, stasis, silence, fears, taunts, and charm.

I never said about nothing to stop the ult channel... He can stay a mile away from any danger and uses his ult, how is that a risk? Hell he can stay at tower and shot em off... Yes a few ults can stop his ult from far away but he'll get off atleast 2 shots before any of the listed above stop his ult while also making them burn there ult at the same time..

TyrekGoldenspear4 votes

Yes, and do you know what that means?

He literally makes a golden brick road to his location.

If an assasin sees it, they can follow it to him amd kill him no matter how far he is.

If he used it to engage he'll be alone.

A flank from an assassin is instant death.

Irelia Bot5 votes

"is it that hard to dodge"

If one hits the rest are nearly impossible to miss.

Astôlfo3 votes

But that basically only applies when he ults against a solo target? Which makes it their fault for being by themselves?

EDIT: lul downvotes for no reason

MXXXXXL5 votes

I just dislike the slow it applies, meaning if he lands one he's going to likely land them all, other then that it's a really cool ability.

MunchCrunchLunch4 votes

it does a lot of damage. and its really. a great engage. since it chunks tanks as well. you can't actually stand there tank it and team fight. it forces you off. also it just gives him fantastic range. his ult in lane. is very powerful. he can 100-0 an adc if he lands 4 shots. dodging skillshots isn't a decent argument it never is since people get better at landing them as well

for the most part the slow on it is worse than the damage. but its not lacking in either section.

TyrekGoldenspear6 votes

I tanked all four as Leona. Barely scratched me.

Same with Taric.

It's not hard. His bullets do missing health damage and have a terrible base damage.

Vekkna6 votes

That "terrible" base damage at max level is the equivalent of two Lux ults.

TyrekGoldenspear3 votes

Really?

Because according to the wiki the base damage at max level is 160 + 20% AD.

Lux's ult at max rank is 500 + 75% AP.

I'm more concerned about him having an assassin's whole combo in one auto attack.
