Ivern Support - Why are people so certain of their opinion?

Why are people convinced Ivern support is bad? I've only played 2 games with him, but it was said in both - you clearly did zero research.

This game will be the reason I die early.

Because its just WORSE than Ivern jungle. Yes, it can work, and it can probably work really well, but time spent mastering it would definitely be better spent mastering his jungle play. Obviously play whatever you want, fuck those guys, but that's why they're saying it

The only success I've HEARD of (have not seen it personally), is running Ivern/Rengar bot lane.

Just try to list why he is good instead. Then, try to think of a similar champ (in playstyle or main skills). Then consider if that champ isn't vastly superior.

I'd say he is closest to Leona (due to the gaploser rooting and actually pulling him in), but he does not have neither tank stats, a passive, stuns or the damage. AKA useless champ.

His only saving grace is Daisy, but this stone Tibbers sucks too. 3 hits to stack up an ability works only on bots. Even if someone decided to tank them, the AOE is predictable, slow and doesn't really do damage.

Just keep him in his pen until Riot overbuffs him to compensate (think Bard).

He just doesn't DO enough. I've a half-dozen support games as him. He doesn't have enough to do at range, and even if you Q in, you still have pretty much nothing left in your kit. Shielding on an engage just feels so lackluster, because it doesn't last long enough, and it is the only thing you have that lets you escape.

In comparing to Leona. Once Leo goes in, she can still stun to get away. She has an Armor/MR boost that drastically outlasts Ivern's shield (that also has a damage pop). Ivern has.... uhh.... he can pop a bush up and try to break LoS, or sacrifice Daisy and hope they don't ignore her because she's easy to kite and her AI doesn't stick to a target very well.

He just has literally nothing to do most of the time. Throw a Q, tickle their healthbar, and stand around waiting for Q to come back up and repeat, since you can't really go in on those Q's. Shield your adc from time to time, be sad your kit is generally terrible for laning. Playing Warwick jungle is more fun than supporting as Ivern.

It's because there are better options that provide peel, lock down potential without their ults, better poke, appropriate disengage, more damage. I just don't think he really does anything for the ADC unless his name is Morde.

I actually prefer Ivern support instead of jungle

And heres why

First its easier to stay alive. When i played jg, i got counter gank, An died easily

When you support you have a ranged stun, an excellent shield that slows, and your ult knockup after 3 hits.

I found his sustain pretty good and i dont normally have to go back to fountains till lvl 5 or 6
