Return of the Metagolem - True Damage (again)
Quite sure if i look hard enough I could find the old dev notes, and videos, as to why True Damage (especially scaling true damage) was stripped from all but two champions. It was driving the HP heavy tank meta that had flared up. With the removal of this, Atma's Impaler, and a few tower tweaks the Meta died quickly. Here we are again.
Vayne was considered ridiculous upon release because of her passive true damage, but we accepted her. Now we have an AP monster that scales upwards with true damage, Yi was shifted to procing true damage... and now we have an item that basically any burst AD character can get to have true damage that... also scales. Are our memories this short, Devs?
Wont bother complaining about the tower nerfs. Won't mention the fact that there are items that make you wonder why Atma's was ever considered over powered. However... really guys? True Damage drives the HP Meta, lets basically do away with it... never mind let's try it again?
EDIT: So in replying to a comment on a different thread, I found a better way to word this:
True Damage enmasse forces softer targets to purchase tanky items... as opposed to a ROA or Rylai's as some survivability, Abyssal to counter the other caster, etc... Spellvamp is now just on the hybrid weapon, and the true damage becomes oppressive. This forces the squishiest of squishies to enter into the bruiser realm. Bruisers are now tanks.
HP is the only solution to True Damage, and if you're purchasing quite a lot you now also are buying items that add either armor or MR. Instead of a counter item, they are closer to being requirements. To test this I've been spam running ARAM games with counter intuitive builds... tanking as expected squishies, One Hit ADCs (Firecannon, Shiv, Duskblade, T-Force), and for those with natural tanking skills and growth filling in a few slots with damage.
This is working frighteningly well, as even during losses the sheer ability to murder anyone who has not gone tanky is staggering. Not merely killing squishies, but the ability to masacre solid damage builds because they can no longer sustain enough punishment for anyone to care.

(soon)
